The Sims

$30 dollars for The Sims 2 and $20 for The Sims 1 re-releases is insane.

There's a $40 bundle of 1,2, and some bullshit to add to 4.

I'll stick with my Ultimate Collection of 2. It isn't that hard to mod TS2 with the 4GB patch and shadow patch.
Honestly, in terms of re-releases/remasters? It's fair. Given they work flawlessly, which they don't. It's a cheap price to not support fitgirl troon crypto kernel miners & co.

If they released sims 1-3 with all dlc at $80 total I'd probably buy it eventually on a sale, solely to go "Okay, I got 'The Sims'. 4 does not exist and I have no future interest in the franchise", but of course that won't happen.

These aren't really even remasters so it isn't worth it. They just did barely a few days worth of coding and sticking DRMs to make them work on modern Windows. Nothing else.

IKEA Stuff is not in the Legacy Collection either.

This is why licensed shit is terrible for video game preservation. Once the license ends, there's no guarantee the company will rerelease it in the future. I'm sticking to what I have for now until someone manages to pirate the new version will all the necessary stuff.

>They pulled a Rockstar Games and removed a lot of licensed tracks
>Voices apparently sound worse than the OG
>Even glitchier than before
>Pink soup still there
>Some mods for the old version don't work in this new one
>The already mentioned lots of times IKEA pack missing (it's a must for households with small budgets)

Even when trying to get consoomers by their side they're utterly incompetent fucks.

Edit: Oh look this analdius guy uploaded a version with the IKEA pack, maybe tomorrow I'll check how borked it is compared to the version from my ancient laptop.

I have only ever played Sims 3 and Sims 4. Sims 3 was my most played game on Steam, Sims 4 has a similar amount of hours. I cannot go back to Sims 3's awful art style, and I got so tired of the bloat and pozzing of Sims 4. I finally decided to download Sims 2, something I never thought to do, as I never see YouTubers play it, and I thought it would be too outdated with no QoL features.

I was so, utterly wrong. Sims 2 is oozing character; amazing music, art style, lighting, the depth of all the actions is astounding and the game has an equal number of animations to match. It took me a few days, but I am now familiar with the UI and Build Mode, and am able to find anything I want.

I have a very strange perspective, in that I was so familiar with the death and de-personalization of The Sims series without realizing it. Sims 2 is so refreshingly funny and laid back. You aren't sweating over skills, promotions, and creating a "perfect life."

Sims 5 is dead, and I doubt it would have been good. What does the future hold for this once perfect series? I have no interest in a forever-platform Sims game of endless DLC. I wish there were more copycat games, like what has started to happen with Pokemon. Is the Sims an extremely hard game to code? Why do we see little to no copycats?

You can play The Sims on modern computers with a modern OS. I bought the first game back when it released. I got bored with it pretty fast. It's basically a life simulator and you do all the boring monotonous shit you do IRL. But I saw a video on YouTube of some guy named Gamer Zakh playing it, so I decided to get it for myself. I even installed it on my T480 ThinkPad. I played a little of it. But I watched this other video that decided to make me give it another shot. It still gets boring in longer sessions though. The novelty wear off quick. just like it did in 2000.

They just released the legacy collection for The Sims 1 and 2 on Steam. But you can get the first game for free. Just read through this Reddit post. You can save yourself $20 and get a better version. Currently people on Steam are saying the legacy collection version has crashing issues and the UI isn't scaled for modern resolutions. This fan packaged version does work fine on modern resolutions and the UI is scaled properly.

There was a version of The Sims starter pack which is what it's called on Archive that allowed for a manual install. But the one on Github only has a web installer. The Archive version has been taken down and I imagine EA releasing the Legacy Collection version of the first game is the reason why that happened.

Get the free version while you can. It's $20 on Steam and The Sims 2 Legacy is $30.

If you want to keep the free version you could try installing it on an external drive. That might work just in case it gets taken down as well.

Not even a UI rescale for Sims 1. What an absolute bummer.
Ok so apparently I was wrong. They put out release notes later in the day

We thought we’d also make it easier to see all those classic pixels on your monitor! To scale the game to make better use of the screen space available, try using the Alt + Enter key combination to cycle through the different scaling options.

All that shit
Just get the games4theworld version and then apply the widescreen patch manually. That one works fine out of the box, it's just the tiny window that gives issues.

I did that. I got the complete collection the no CD crack and the widescreen patcher and put it on my external ssd for PC games.

I can thank you people for reminding me to download all the pre-order bonus and store items for The Sims 2. Now I need to find some good mods to stabilize the game itself.

The list of bugs in the TS2 Legacy Collection continue to add up. The funniest new bug is Mr. Rod Humble giving you multiple free computers, and it's probably his personal apology for Life By You getting cancelled:

The creator of the Shadow Fix mod explains how EA implemented their "fix" in the TS2 Legacy Collection. / Archive

So basically EA just copy-pasted the code and called it a day.

EA have announced patches for the TS1 and TS2 re-releases, but who wants to bet on how many things they'll break instead?
