The Sims

Wanna know something funny about sims?
2 and 3 had custom colors for everything, you could have yellow sims with purple hair living in vantablack houses and thousands of textures and patterns, didn’t like the roof color? Change it! Don’t have chris chan’s iconic red and blue polo shirt? Make it
and in 4 for as “diverse and inclusive” it tries to be its twice as confined there’s limited color options and you can only make lousy and generic characters unless you get 50$ in multiple packs, where as 3 you had supernatural which contains vampires, werewolves, ghosts, fairies ect and get more for less.
in the new packs you pay 20$ for a 1 new sim type, couple furniture items, and slighy different from the base game hairstyles, and then they say they hate capitalism!

Can we just get an updated or brand new mii game? Cuz sims kinda stinks.

I've never really got into the Sims but my wife likes it. I installed the Sims 3 for her along with all the addons and a bunch of mods and stuff and she's been pretty happy playing that for a long time now. She was asking about the Sims 4 the other day so we went and looked it up. I went through everything available on steam for the Sims 4 and to actually buy everything was for real, no joke, over $1600. Most of the comments and discussion threads we found too pretty much said the game was a downgrade from 3 in almost every way. Even if we had actually bought everything she still would have had more stuff available playing the Sims 3 than she would have with 4. As far as I can tell the only reason the Sims 4 exists is to sell shit that used to be free.

I played a game of Sims 3 maybe 6 months ago and it occurred to me how much the game series is crippled by appealing primarily to women. Any other game series that has a bunch of one-game Andys playing it for 20+ years straight and you have so many reinventions and alternatives. Sims franchise you have the main game + cosmetics and sex mods. There's no serious, mature attempts to make open source Sims engines, or total conversion mods, or non-terrible Sims-likes. Compare this to something like TES and you have tons of options if you want to play a better looking and running Morrowind on a potato with new lands mods and major reworks to every in game system.
The thing I recall is that TS3’s core files are notoriously impenetrable to modding, and would only allow for one core mod to be run at a time. The third-party modding software for TS3 is also extremely outdated (bad even by 2008-2012 standards), which limits the extent of modding further.

I would agree though that probably the slice of life nature of the franchise limits the mods people are willing to develop as there are other games more suitable for the desired genres; I.e. you’d never get a real shooter built in the shell of a sims game, as something like GTA already has that covered.

Here you go buddy, this might be helpful for getting the wife a decent amount of content without breaking your wallet. Also, for modding the game to make it less janky. Sims 4 is spaghetti code to end all spaghetti code.

But yeah Sims 4 just kind of sucks. Sims 3 is superior in pretty much every way from a creative and content standpoint.

Obviously I wouldn't have paid for it but just the fact it's so much. I looked up the Sims 3 and it was like $80 for all the things. She likes the walking around town shit in the sims 3. It looked like the Sims 4 didn't have that. I dunno she wasn't really interested in it any more after reading about it.

That's fair. I figured I'd drop the link for where you can get your hands on it in case she wanted to give it a go without having to break the bank for it. Because even just buying three or four sims 4 packs can be 50 bucks, easy, even when on sale. (EA is a bunch of greedy kikes.)

But yeah, I'm really not surprised that she wasn't interested in it after reading about it. I'm a hardcore sims 3 player, and from my experience, Sims 4 is the most boring, shallow and empty gameplay ever. The only thing "good" about it is the building aspect of it, and that's being generous.

the best part of sims 4 is making the overly woke “game devs” in their pride clothes and having them burn alive in a raging fire. It didn’t cost a cent That’s all base game!

The Smooth Patch by LazyDuchess makes 3 bearable and so does NRASS mods.
It's always been intolerable in TS3 that every savegame has the equivalent of a killswitch in it- aka the game being so poorly coded + savegame bloating making it so that your save file eventually becomes unplayable- and how NRAAS was necessary for basic maintenance that the game should really be doing itself.

Basic things like NPC sims generating junk cars whenever they traveled, and NRAAS needing to clean these cars from the world and their inventories every night.

It got especially bad with the "cozy game" shit taking off. I watched one lispy faggot's video on these sims happenings and it immediately blanketed my suggestions in more of these "COZY VANESSA #SIMS #STARDEW" type almost-literally NPCs. I knew sims girls were pretty one-note and generic back when I was a teen, but holy shit they just kept at it and made it not their personality but their entire lives.

I think at its root its simply the tale as old as time; women unable to develop a personality so they make their one interest their personality. "That cozy sims girl", until they went online and realized there's actually thousands of them, so what now? They double-down, grift even harder, or branch out into other things, becoming a trend tourist streaming apex, wow hardcore or whatever Twitch says will make them money.

To this day I've not met a chick who had a unique and interesting gaming career not similar to sims -> stardew -> indie slop

Looks like EA are planning on releasing the first two instalments online as part of it's 25th anniversary. Unsure if this is a recompile to work on modern systems, or possibly just running in a Wine wrapper. Hopefully it's not tied to EA Play subscription.

The fact that it's just a "re-release" is definitely grim, I'm not even sure if it will launch at a chonky resolution without asking you first about it. If they released the source code that could be a game-changer (literally) but I don't think they'll do that.

The Sims 2 would benefit greatly if it was released in 64-bit, but seeing how incompetent and greedy EA is, my expectations are low. I just want the pink soup gone.

Damn, I'm very keen on seeing the reveal of the Sims 1 remaster. If they can fix the hardbaked UI with a proper windowed mode then that will make my day. I wish Will Wright had an actual game studio offering to remaster Sim City 2000/3000/4, much like Petroglyph (former C&C devs) did for C&C Remastered collection. Don't care for Sims 2, but its nice that it's also seeing a remastered rerelease.
The first Sims game will always be my favorite in the series, despite how limited the gameplay might be compared to the others. You really need a good number of the expansion packs to get the most out of it, but there's just something about the style of the first game that sets it apart from the others. It's like a jarring world that oscillates between idyllic and horrifying, and the calming soundtrack (by far the best in the series) somehow harmonizes with the chaos beautifully.
Well said. That's why I love it, it feels like a Maxis game by Will Wright. It wasn't just about the mechanics, as there's a specific charm and wit of how Maxis games operated under up to Sim City 4 that I don't think can ever be replicated.

it most certainly would be recomplied to work on Windows 10 and 11, if they actually release them on steam then It would be the rare W for that God-Forsaken company.

First three games have their pros & cons.
Sims 4 is basically the bastard child nobody cares (except for coomers).
I don't disagree that Sims 3 is a better game in most ways that matter but current year Sims 4 has a better and more stable engine at least (to damn something with THE FAINTEST PRAISE IMAGINABLE)

I'm not sure if I knew about it but blanked it out or it was added in the one or two DLCs they shit out since my last play through a million years ago but addressing the long loading times in Sims 3 by adding a hidden object game that massively increases loading times is the most Sims 3 Spaghetti Code Solutions thing that could ever exist.

Sims 4 wise I also like moods and the life aspiration-achievement-things. I think the build mode is also slightly better. Collecting all the garbage is also better.

But note that my opinion of the Sims games are slightly different then most people because I play it as single player Runescape and most people play it to make the dollies kiss or to commit homicide with cheap furniture and stoves

It's not a remaster, it's the "Windows 10/Windows 11 Re-Release", equivalent of sticking a patch on a game in a budget CD collection that used to be all the rage when we had physical media (only at peak, by 2005 this was gone). Chance of getting source code is nil.

I'd sure like to see source code/re-releases for the other games, though. SimCity 2000 still has a few bugs even on Mac v1.2 (the best version), SimCity 3k has a LOT of bugs (especially when importing SC2k games), and SimCity 4 could have a lot of improvements with source releases.

And am I reading this right, and it doesn't have the IKEA pack, but it does have the H&M pack? I think they just grabbed the Mr.DJ repack (it doesn't have the IKEA pack either, get the games4theworld version instead), slapped 3 drms and called it a day.
I'll keep using my ancient pirated copies even if getting then to run is a PITA, thank you very much.

$30 dollars for The Sims 2 and $20 for The Sims 1 re-releases is insane.

There's a $40 bundle of 1,2, and some bullshit to add to 4.

I'll stick with my Ultimate Collection of 2. It isn't that hard to mod TS2 with the 4GB patch and shadow patch.
