Marvel Cinematic Universe

New Spiderman episodes (surprisingly three at once)

+ Setup for Rhino, Scorpion, and Doc Ock are actually pretty decent
+ Hell Doc Ock being a proactive villain is refreshing with reasonable motives
+ Side cast is alright still

= Norman feels like they're leaning into the Iron Patriot stuff than the Goblin idea, based on his stated goals which could be interesting since I don't think they ever adapted that side of Norman before.

- Peter is pretty much Tom Holland Spiderman still even with everyone knowing his secret identity because now both the Osborns know who he is, and he's not really interesting. Like the only stuff he seems to struggle with are scheduling and I guess the financial stuff but he has a cushy internship so there really isn't much. It's kind of hard to see what sort of arc they're going for beyond the generic "be a top hero" since there isn't much else to him.
- Half of Episode 4 was spent on a subplot of Peter trying on shitty Spider-Man costumes Norman gives him (imagine that cape scene from Incredibles except a third of the episode), hell Peter and Norman's dynamic feels like it would fit in The Boys with a superhero getting advice from their agent on demographics and such.
- Tombstone's sort of turn to loving crime feels way too fast, beats up Scorpion (when he's just a gangbanger) and gets love from criminals who forced him into this lifestyle (despite already being a well respected quarterback) to suddenly embrace a criminal lifestyle (mind you he joined a gang just to switch places with his little bro). It just feels so rushed.
- A lot of MCU plot points that remind you this was meant to tie into the MCU with the Civil War stuff being mentioned except Spider-Man isn't part of it.

NEW SLOP, COME GET YOUR NEW SLOP.

A Marvel movie about family and coming together, how novel.

To save the world from a big purple guy, they're going to learn to put aside their differences and work together as a team. Galactus, In The Hoooouse. Do you think Doctor Doom will be in the mid-credits or the post-credits? SILVER SURFER? OH MY GOD, IT'S SILVER SURFER! SILVER SURFER! SILVER SURFER!

The FF trailer isn't bad. I like that Herbie is in it. lol.

But Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards just kills everything for me. Him, and the fact that my excitement for the MCU is nonexistent these days.
this is me too. I like the atomic age retro futurism vibe and aesthetic for it a lot, and I don't dislike Pascal but he's the wrong casting for reed. I don't like John Krazinski as an actor but he was a good choice and I wish they hadn't wasted him in DS2 and used him here instead. I personally think Pascal has the potential to blow me away with a performance that sells me on him as Reed but he'll never have a script to do that in an MCU movie. and even with that the look will still be wrong. at least shave wtf?

that said this movie looks fine, outside of Pascal and female Surfer. the latter I just think is dumb. my only real nitpick otherwise is I wish the thing was more Orange but that's just superficial me complaining. that said, at this point these movies have gotten so big that although I always wanted a traditional Galactus now that we're getting it, I think its too late and don't care.

Will they put aside any differences they have to defeat a menace, that involves fighting a blue space laser or something? They fight Galactus, blah blah blah, multiverse, blah blah blah, they get stuck in the standard MCU in time for Avengers: Doomsday.

Also, Pedro Pascal seems to be the man to get when directors have no real clue as to who they want to cast. "Um, I don't know, let's just get the guy who is the face of non-threatening 'masculinity'."

I don't mind Norman as Peter's mentor, fits better than Tony imo. The rest of your points I agree with. So far, it's not as bad as the trailers made it out to be, but far from the quality you'd expect from Spectacular or the 90's show.

Honestly if the MCU and other Spider-Man media didn't have Peter get mentors from like Iron Man and Nick Fury, I think Norman Osborn having that role could be good. It's just that it feels rare for a Spider-Man origin to have him be on his own.

Everyone I have talked to has said the same thing and personally I am in the same camp. I think Pedro's casting will hurt them badly because he is not that well-liked.

It doesn't help that he's overexposed as an actor (seriously, he's in everything these days and I'm sick of looking at him), and that he is a huge miscast for Reed Richards. He doesn't look the part, and everything I have seen him in doesn't scream that he is able to act the part.

Jessica Alba as the Invisible Woman is a better casting choice than this. lol. Alba at least managed to look the part at the end of the day.

Not to mention Pedro was definitely cast due to his typecasting where he's also picked to play a dad

Like I guarantee that's part of why he was cast as Mr. Fantastic because of the constant dad roles Pedro has.

I actually don't even think he isn't well liked, I think it's like @StarkRavingMad was saying, and his overexposure the last 5/6 years. I think that's most of why people are down on him in general. he's in everything and doesn't get to utilize much range in what he's in. as far as Mr Fantastic though, I think most people who are FF/comic fans aren't even against it for those reasons, I think it's he looks and sounds nothing like Reed Richards and has an 8th grade boy mustache.

Another thing about Pedro is that he doesn't look confident, he doesn't have that "authority" to him the way the former Mr.Fantastic did. like as much as people shit on the older movies, they fucking nailed the casting.
As someone who hated those films, J concede that you are right - they definitely looked the part. Laurence Fishburne as The Silver Surfer was a very inspired choice as well.

For everyone speculating on why Pedro Pascal keeps getting roles:

Not just that, Pedro was born in a political elite Chilean family with globalist leftist connections. José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal is his real name. The Balmacedas have been involved with Chilean politics since nearly the the beginning of Independent Chile and are decedents of Basque nobility. Jose's Great Great Grandpa was the 10th President of Chile (The Chilean military totally didn't get involved in his "suicide") and his mom is Salvador Allende's niece (The Chilean military with Mi General totally didn't get involved with his "suicide" either). Pedro and his transgendered "sister" probably got in acting when his mom grease some of her elite club friend's wheels in America.

For all their faults the Foxtastic 4 movies really had a good handle on the team itself, casting and bantz within them
