Am I missing something? You’ve been able to chose to bum or not to bum a character that’s the same sex as you in a lot of RPGs for the last twenty years? Are the people frothing at the mouth at this just protesting to much?
Seriously, guys, just skip the scene or go out there and suck a dick and get on with your lives.
I kind've explained in the KCD thread why this is particularly egregious, and it's not just the buggery.
1. What was done here was make 2 characters who previously only expressed heterosexual sentiments become bisexual, potentially hooking up with one another. The equivalent here would be making Geralt from Witcher 1 and 2 along with Dandelion from the same games have hooking up in the 3rd game as an option. They're characters with previously established characters now being retconned into having a potential attraction to one another from the outset. It retroactively paints all prior interactions as being the foundation for an eventual romance. All the heart to hearts and moments of bonding were in service to an eventual romance. It's pandering at best and malicious at worst. These two characters can't simply be friends, their bond also has to be in service to a romance that was never inferred and even if ignored, every line of dialogue is in service to it.
2. They included an anachronistic scholar from Mali - a place so hard to travel to and from that not even Islam's most prolific explorer/scholar, Ibn Battuta, made the journey, and he ventured to Morocco and Somalia. He is a Muslim man in the court of a crusader, Sigismund, and remains proudly so despite there being oppressed Jews on the outskirts of the settlement he resides. Musa lectures Henry on how much more barbaric his people are compared to his own too. His inclusion is entirely to tick off a check box.
3. Like The Last of Us 2, there's an unusual reverence for Judaism in a period and place which shouldn't revere it at all, including a synagogue that wouldn't exist for another 3 centuries. You cannot draw your sword in the synagogue, nor freely attack its attendees. You can do so in a church.
4. Ties to the past 3 points, it demonstrates a complete 180 to the accuracy and faithfulness of the prior game. The director hid all of this in the game past the refund window, which shows the insidious motive to
trick people into discovering all these additions past the refund window. Either that, or he saw no issue with suddenly not demonstrating faithfulness to history when he was so adamant about it prior, showing himself to be unprincipled.
