These plates are stronger and thicker than the old-school white plates with the fluted edge. They're much less likely to soak through and you only have to use one instead of doubling up. The nearest plain white paper plate that's also strong and soak resistant is Chinet, which is considerably more expensive. Besides, if you're eating off paper plates, you dgaf about aesthetics.
