I'm surprised none of them complained about the dirt in the bike lane. The reason why that's there is because the dividers stop the street sweepers from driving down the bike lane, so they never get cleaned.

Note that not only does the Australian NOT live near the stadiums, the Melbourne stadiums are surrounded by a river, massive rail lines, and a park; i.e. NOT people's homes.

For full context there is a large tram stop, large interchange train station(Richmond) which has all the trains for the south and most of the east, a smaller station(Jolimont) with trains to the north, major road(Punt rd) for buses and cars, and trains+Trams running frequent shuttles into the CBD where there are plenty of multi story carparks and restaurants.

Plus loads of staff guiding and managing people in and out, in an area that has been a large sports area since the 30's and held the Olympics in the 50's.

Because it's so connected the more American style suburban grounds like Waverly Park ended up with a rep for car park congestion(amongst other political things lol) and so were seen as lower quality and ended up being demoted to second tier venues for practice games and other things in VIC

Using the MCG as an example compared with American Suburban venues, that have a much higher population around them is just silly, I'm pretty sure most American big college games are bigger than the average stadium in AU lol

Just glancing at the list about half of them are college football stadiums at the top. That means around 50,000 to 70,000 people are traveling once a week to a game. Students usually get free or reduced tickets, but almost everyone is traveling from outside the city. The University of Georgia which I am most familiar with is a student population of around 40k with the city population being around 130k. It's a small place with a big school in the middle of nowhere. It's about an hour drive from Atlanta. Mercedes-Benz which is in downtown Atlanta holds about 70k people for context.

The reason why the sand is even there is because it's that time of the year when hard freezes hit Dallas and they put sand on the roadways to prevent them from becoming ice slicks, and road bicycles have even less traction than car tires do. No helmets + ice means that sooner or later you WILL go from The Bike That Couldn't Slow Down to traumatic brain injury.

On stupid rail projects. I'm not a California resident any more, but I still have friends there and I'm hopeful that the new Nazi Regime in Washington will be looking closely at their $100 billion(plus likely much more) train to nowhere and then doing something about it.

Recently came across a LinkedIn post about how close German cities are to the 15 Minute City ideal, and I was a bit confused. In my city, and practically any city in Germany, you can already reach anything you need within 15 minutes on foot, bike, or public transport. I've lived in a village of 10k, city of 100k, 200k, and 1.5M, it was like that everywhere. But apparently, to reach the Parisian Ideal of 15 Minute City, something is missing? The LinkedIn post didn't describe it, just linked to a white paper by an urbanist faggot institute, and refused to give actual answers, and to download the paper you had to give them name and mail address. So I sure won't find out because I ain't contacting those poofs.
My guess is that all those German cities don't count as 15 Minute Cities despite everything being easily reachable by non-car-means within 15 minutes is because you can also reach everything in 15 minutes by car. They don't restrict cars enough. But they don't like to openly state state that.

It really just boils down to urbanists having no idea about logistics. City life insulates them from basic transportation requirements like stacking errands or carrying and storing groceries for more than a few days. Roads by design can handle as much throughput as you can physically fill with cars, trains/trams require constant stops and or diversions just to handle more densely packed but infrequent loads. They really hate sports because it's an actual active community and exposes them for the jealous lonely lovers they are.

Just remember that the e stands for evading regulations. Uber existed to evade taxi regulations, Airbnb exists to evade renting and hotel regulations. eBikes evade moped and scooter regulations.
