I assume for it to be a retcon so they can try and force Korra into naturally progressing from ATLA while stealing more stuff from the comics. "Roku really did have a twin, that's why the next Avatar in Seven Havens totally has one." Bryke says as they make up more lore retcons on the fly like that.

What does everyone think of the whole if Azula should be redeemed debate. I recently saw something that said people are only against Azula being redeemed because she's a girl. Despite everything she did. Azula got everything she wanted as a child. The only thing she didn't get was Ursa's love. Though I do think Ursa loved her. She just needed to give more to Zuko because no one else in the family other than Iroh was giving him love. Zuko needed Ursa to become who he was.

Despite everything she did. Azula got everything she wanted as a child. The only thing she didn't get was Ursa's love. Though I do think Ursa loved her. She just needed to give more to Zuko because no one else in the family other than Iroh was giving him love. Zuko needed Ursa to become who he was.

I honestly think that Azula was reprehensible enough that a redemption arc would be... not very believable I guess? I was always very "ehhhh" about the possibility of her redemption because it would also kind of remind me of Steven Universe in a way. "Oh gee we're not gonna be genocidal dictators anymore because our sister said so! Okay!"

But idk, maybe I'd say the same thing about Iroh, who was my actual favorite character. He was supposedly a lot more bloodthirsty and ruthless before Ba Sing Se, but we never saw much of him pre-redemption. I doubt that he was as bad as Ozai.

The one thing Azula has going for her is that she's a fourteen-year-old girl. There could be hope for her, but idk. I just don't trust the current showrunners to handle it at all well.

WTF is wrong with these people. Part of the fun with these kind of sequels is seeing the return of the actors playing the old characters and unlike their appearance in Korra they are old enough to play as the adult versions. Imagine if for the 80s Star Trek movies they replaced the old Enterprise crew with new actors or have Empire Strikes Back but the OT Star Wars cast is replaced or have someone else play Frodo and Sam in The Two Towers. You just don't do that. I do not care if the former child actors haven't acted in awhile or aren't the correct ethnicity (Last time I checked Air/Water/Earth/Fire benders aren't real). You don't do this kind of shit with a long running story like avatar.

Pretty sure he did write some episodes for Korra and all he has done since is that god awful Dragon prince show. So his quality as a writer/producer is certainly at the same level as Bryke right now.

She deserves a chance, but whether or not that arc ends with an actual redemption is up to her.

A good writer could probably do it well. Have her be depowered by Aang and exiled to some unknown backwater village where people will beat the shit out of her if she talks back. It's generic but better than the current alternative of the royal bloodline being literally orthogonally evil.

If Jack DeSena is not coming back to voice Sokka at the very least, then I hope this movie crashes and burns. It's like Silent Hill at this point, just stop, it's already dead.

It is pretty weird that Korra herself only barely breaks even, whereas you can point to the original series and show that Aang definitively beat Ozai. I don't begrudge a writer for having their characters lose a fight here or there, but the ratio is too far to one side for Korra.

You can make an argument for season 1 and maaaaaybe season 3. But 2 and 4 are draws. Bryke forgot to make her a "Legend" but I appreciate that they gave her flaws and did not make her a Mary Sue. She faces consequences for her actions but I would like a genuine victory for season 4 as it was the grand finale. Korra did great things but they were not necessarily good things. She brought back airbenders but she also brought back the spirits who act like they own the place but are pissed when you return the favour. She was a very divisive Avatar even in-universe. The Seven Havens should have been an unrelated show. It does not sound like Avatar at all.

More of a cautionary tale

True. She was more of a mediocre, at best, Avatar. Bryke were not careful when making her. They tried to make her the opposite of Aang but forgot to give her positive aspect Aang lacked. They just removed his good sides from her and replaced them with bad. While Aang was wise and mature but naive and inexperienced while Korra was naive, aggressive, inexperienced and immature.

I watched E;R's million videos on Korra and the big takeaway I had was that the Avatar writers decided they wanted to be Miyazaki and fucked up Avatar by putting weird weeb shit in it (with the spirits) that was totally at odds with the grounded low fantasy feel of it.

Ironically it's an actual case of cultural appropriation, at least in Avatar they put enough ambiguity on it to make it work. But Korra's spirit world is just a mishmash of things that don't really fit together since they were wholesale lifted/bastardized from other cultures.
