Is there a scenario where the ports are Amereican owned and operated with them taking a cut of port fees, but the Russians have full right to monitor everything going through and mark certain things as prohibited?

Oh for sure.

The reserve currency has always been the currency of the biggest industrial producers.

First the Pound, then the dollar (and D mark), then just the dollar. The biggest producer today is… China.

It can possibly be a drawn out process though, possibly taking half a decade or a decade. And the dollar will still remain important.

Why not just travel within the US? It's a huge country after all, with basically every climate and type of natural scenery represented. Travelling abroad is overrated.

Oh I agree I agree!

When I say "Odessa is already gone", I don't mean that Trump's plan to have the US control the ports is a done deal. I see it as a ploy. That is just the opening move in the process of planting the idea so that the outcome is less devastating to the parties involved. The United States will not get Odessa's ports; over time this narrative/quip/comment will morph over time into giving Odessa back to Russia as part of the peace deal.

Russia would never give control of the Danube to the United States and clearly Ukraine does not deserve it. But Russia absolutely wants Catherine's city back.
 
Also, since we're on the topic of Odessa, I'm pretty sure Russia having control over it and the surrounding regions opens a land bridge to Transnistria, which still has a lot of their troops and stockpiles iirc, Ukraine has been salivating looking at those but they're still kind of considered Moldova which is the only thing stopping them from launching an incursion to wipe out the stationed ruaf forces there and claim their supplies.

Very huge for Russia considering their open support for the region's independence.
