there's way less of the old guard in power now compared to 8 years ago. pretty much the entire pre-2008 era GOP that made up a quarter of the GOP house and senate is gone. Think about the people that really got in trump's way in the first term, guys like Mitt Romney, John Mccain, Kevin Mcarthy, Paul Ryan, and Liz Chaney.

Beyond that with guys like Musk being Trump, every congressperson is scared shitless of being primaried and you've even had new supporters like Nicole Shanahan proudly threaten congressmembers if they try fucking over trump's cabinet members. look who was in control of the RNC and Speaker and Majority leader positions in 2017 compared to now.
Plus the left has gone so insane that the GOP isn't going to reach across the aisle especially with so many high profile assassinations recently. the house majority leader this time around has been shot by leftists, he's not going to whine about Trump's rhetoric the same way Bohner or Ryan or Mccarthy did.
