He's an old school radio guy, and one of the common radio guy strategies was always to basically be a lolcow and then and monetize the controversy.

He has a very marginally successful streaming career, which involves a lot of begging, but enough people seem to watch and throw him a buck or two that he can keep doing it.
He’s said a few times that the Nick drama stuff is not welcomed by his show audience, and that’s one reason he tries to avoid it more recently (unless he can’t resist the siren call of crowing about something or denying an L).
So I don’t think it’s fair to say he is living off the Rekieta drama per se, even if it does help pad the show out.

Nick is an arrogant and lazy coke head. April is a dozy coke head. Kayla is mostly zonked on pills. Also, while they had "sides" of the bed they stayed on, Aaron and Kayla would stray onto Nick's side and leave him to sleep on the wet spot. Near the end Nick even messaged Aaron that it bothered him that Aaron and Kayla got the bed all the time.
