Can't it means that say you're born in a US embassy, or a US flagged ship or a US military base or US territory or Indian reservation (maybe) then you are a us citizen. That's how McCain despite being born in the Panama Zone was able to run for the presidency.
It is already established that if you are born to US citizens then you are a US citizen. The stuff introduced by the 14th amendment is a separate issue.

Kind of crazy that all these countries just want their native people to lose.
It makes sense when you accept that these leaders don't see their constituents as people. Or even constituents for that matter. You are a "consumer" or a "unit of production" or my favorite a "FTE" (full time employee). It's much easier to do the things they do to you if they can remove all humanity from their thought processes.

If I was Trump, I would erect a statue or national monument of Norma Shearer in an attempt to bridge the gap of peace since Canada may be a US territory now. I say Norma Shearer because she was a Canadian-American actress.
We could get Alanis Morsette to record a new offical canadian version of the stars spangled banner for them to enjoy. By enjoy I mean we blast it for them 24/7 no matter what.

Because the cheap Chinese-made ones break after one use and that's fucking annoying. Many Americans want to BIFL, but Chinese firms try to convince us that "fast fashion" is cool so they can sell us their cheap shit.
The best comparison between made in China shit versus normal shit is to walk into a harbor freight store.

“Oh look, a lift frame with a hand winch, I could pull the engine out of my car and work on it!”

Not if you value your life, son

I always think about that one town where the border is literally the road and you’re not allowed to stop on the road because then you’re in an international situation. And there was a news story where cops stop people who cross said street because one side is Canada one side is the USA

A very unprotected border. I wonder how that will change going forward

Problem solved.

chinese shit is awful. technology has gotten so much more shitty since we decided to outsource everything to a country that treats their country like a nuclear waste dumping zone. I go out of my way to buy US, as hard as that is. I'll by Japan too. Unfortunately theres some shit i absolutely have no choice other than to buy chinese garbage. If i could buy american made computer parts, i would.

The tariff conversation is stupid. If I give you $100 and you give me $10 I have a deficit of $90. If we stop giving each other money, I necessarily will be in a better position because I keep that $90. You are necessarily worse because you no longer get that money. This is assuming you were even giving me $10 because guess what, the EU doesn't buy our products. There is no mathematical way for tariffs to hurt the United States.
It's not that simple. Let's say I agree to give you $100 and you give me $10, leaving me at a deficit of $90, but in exchange I get to fuck you in the ass. (We are discussing Canadian and European geopolitics after all.) You keep this up for decades because ultimately you are taking my money, but all of this prostitution has left you with a biologically-defunct ass and have to wear diapers. You can't engage in any serious trade that would let you spend those accruing "profits" of $90 per anal sex, because everyone who interacts with you goes "Isn't that the guy who has to get fucked in the ass just to stay alive? And what's that smell? Is that a dirty diaper? I won't do any trade with him." Then finally after years of this, a buff guy with an alcohol problem and AIDS sees you and goes "That's the guy who gets fucked in the ass. He can't do anything else, it's how he gets his money. I bet I could fuck him in the ass too if I just forced myself onto him." Unfortunately the buff guy is right, because you've been spending all of this money on genuine elderberries in your MREs and Arabic roommates.

Then after this entire, tired, homoerotic metaphor Donald Trump approaches you and goes "Why did you try to make a living getting fucked in the ass? Why don't you do it properly and have some sovereignty, instead of letting every president before me arrange this backwards deal?" This offends you, so you consider letting China fuck you in the ass for money from now on.

People talk about what we do like we’re fucking retarded janitors
They do, but if the pay is right, nobody really cares. Factory work can be harder than fucking around at McDs, but usually also has better benefits. One thing that's really hurt the "factory towns" is fucking around with pensions and replacing them with 401(k)s; as factory workers are much more likely to not really understand the need to save in the 401(k) consistently and never touch it. Pensions make more sense to them. This is one place the government could do some good, setup something that's a cross between a 401(k) and a pension; defined contribution but also set in some standard bogleheads-like 3 fund portfolio, etc, etc.
They already have a location chosen, have conducted town hall meetings to get public support, gotten all the permits, gone to the planning commission, have plans for water and power to be hooked up, secured regional construction firms, and have the logistics in place for all the machinery they need (manufacturing machinery takes time to engineer and needs to be shipped over either by ship or by semi, but that's even more planning).
The machinery isn't a hurdle if you're moving manufacturing from somewhere else, and some factories can setup quickly as they use pretty generic machinery (e.g., a hydraulic press is easy to get, a customized hydraulic press for a particular purpose may not be). The permits, etc go with the next:
Also depends on the local town not being idiotic. For example Edison Motors wanted to but the old Peterbilt factory which was ready to go with the original equipment, but the town refused because they wanted someone to turn it into a hipster office building. Even though Edison Motors would've revitalized the town.
It's really up to the local town. Some towns are hungry as hell and if you roll up with a proposal for a factory, they'll bend heaven and earth to get you going; others have their heads so far up their assessments that they are unsaveable.

The key is to have it at the locality; don't let it be handled by the states. There will be SOME places that want in on it, and then it will grow.

With all the coping and sneeding from Trudeau, why didn't he just negotiate?
Trump is a deals guy. Offer him something.
"Trump I understand wanting Tariffs but maybe we can negotiate some existing deals in return for lower tariffs so your infrastructure has time to catch up..."
Something. Anything.
He didn't even try? As far as I can tell he made no counter offer. Even when given an olive branch he did fuck all for the pause period.
Why doesn't Trudeau try to negotiate? At all? It's fucking frustrating to see because I don't like Canadians but it benefits us to have strong, competent neighbors and they're just acting like braindead retards instead of NEGOTIATING.
Political theater. Castro's son's political party was looking to be wiped out in their next election but now they can advertise that they're pro leaf nationalism and won't bow to the orange fascist to shore up support.

You don't hate the theatre kids enough.

No, all you needed was a drivers’ license up until the post-911 security reforms
in some US-Can border states you can get a driver's license that has all your passport details on it (think of it as a passport card that's also a driver's license). Thus allowing you to drive back and forth across the US can (and US mexico) border. I think every state and territory should have this as it would be more secure and easier for road, rail and train transit (it would also mean that having a fake would make it a federal crime). Have an option to have TSA precheck / Nexus (and whatever the mexico equivalent is) on it and I think we are golden

Luckily this isn't a situation where you have to force consumers to choose an illogical choice. Better education about the suffering required for the cheap goods as well as the difference in quality can push people to make this decision on their own. There is already a growing "buy it for life" movement and "made in America" lines of products are typically well regarded compared to the cheaper version by the same brand. If we really fix the hollowing out of the middle class people might spend those extra bucks in their pocket to reinvest in America.
Not to give reddit tier one liners but look into the chocolate/coco trade. The Coco is harvested by child slaves and people still buy it. Hell cocaine literally is a blood drug and despite knowing all this people still use it recreationally. I fear you might be a bit too optimistic.

When it doesn't that is where the tariffs come in to nudge people in the right direction.

Don't disagree

I'd like to see Trump use that money to help American industry be more competitive by subsidizing technology advancements as well as consumer protections laws such as "slave labor free" and "RFK Jr Approved" labeling.
Hard to do when he and Musk are so gun-ho about every any agency. I agree the American government should use it's power and resources to break up monopolies, fund under funded industries that would have a hard time getting started in the current landscape, protecting American workers and consumer from corporate greed and misconduct making sure no corporation is "too big to fail" (again breaking up monopolies). But that would require the Republican party to stop sucking off corporate interests and actually support regulations. Sadly this is what made the dems so popular (that and they didn't police your sex life). But Trump is no TR Republican he's at most a Hoover Republican or God help us a Grant Republican.

Don't worry Canadian bros only 77% of your exports go to the USA surely you can find a market elsewhere for those goods at the same prices you could sell them here right?

The response from Ford was laughable too "We will shut off our power grids from giving energy to the USA!" uh ok so we will just go ahead and stop all those oil pipelines going into Canada then good luck!

btw Canada sells that energy to us at like 2.5x the rate they would get in their own country but I'm sure they can handle that too! Might be the weakest leadership of any major country tbh.

The Chinese wouldn't have a market if people didn't buy it. Think average. Why would I buy a $25 lightbulb when a $5 lightbulb will do the same thing? All I care is that I need a lightbulb now and need to buy other things too. It's simple capitalism.

(e.g., a hydraulic press is easy to get, a customized hydraulic press for a particular purpose may not be).
More likely, what you would need would be a die for your hydraulic press.
They do, but if the pay is right, nobody really cares. Factory work can be harder than fucking around at McDs, but usually also has better benefits. It’s not that we’re stupid, we’re poor. I’ve had to cash out 401(k)s because the alternative was living on the street, losing my car, etc

Maybe people don’t think it’s like that in America, but factories don’t often have the available margin to give raises to match inflation. If they wanted to, they’d have to offset with price increases, and then they’d lose business and have to lay people off.

The company I work for has a profit sharing program, and one good year the boss just cut us all bonuses to avoid going up a tax bracket
