It almost goes without saying because it sounds stupid, but homeless people are homeless for a reason that tends to revolve around mental illness, drugs, or a fan favorite - both. We have the euphemism "down on their luck" to describe someone who is temporarily or accidentally homeless but the sad truth is not every person can exist in modern aociety as there are those where nothing could ever shape them into a normal citizen permanently. Convincing a schizo to take their meds, if they don't want to, can spiral very quickly. Forcing someone clean when they've always used substance to run away from how they think and feel is torturous if they don't want to push through and finally deal with stuff.
How do these people think prices go down? Trump has been in office two months, we won’t see a noticeable drop in prices for close to a year. I haven't looked up the numbers recently, but it was something like 60% of homeless were considered temporary because they were only homeless for less than a month. These were poor people who lost their house/apartment due to some setback, spent a month living rough or in their car, before they could arrange housing somewhere else. The "down on their luck" people do exist, but you usually don't see them, and they tend not to be the visible problem in cities.
