Get ready for every future MH game to be like Wilds, a focus on the dogshit story.

I'm sure the Nip voice actors are fine but otherwise lol no. Also, fuck your roleplaying apparently, Capcom decides what you're thinking. This is especially sad when you realize that they might have to since most niggercattle are braindead. What was it, only 30+% of the population have an inner monologue?

Kill yourself. I don't care if that's true, MH having a "robust plot" is not the point of Monster Hunter. I'll give you 3 guesses as to what the point of the game is, hint's in the title.

I hate when people do this. "This was peak, RIGHT? You agree with EVERYONE, RIGHT?"

Revolutionary... This is probably the most realistic reason for its success, the ability for consolefags to play together, is enough of a reason for many people to slap down $70+ on a game.

Someone, explain to me, how? I know some have already but it just doesn't make sense anymore. And forgive the poor highlighting, my hands aren't good since the incident.

China. Or at least, it always have been East Asia region dominate.
Wilds, steamchart is the kind of East Asia time zone, steamDB is UTC (UK).

Depending on how you think most PCs can barely play it. It's more or less, there are lots more people with high end PC than you'd think. That doesn't mean I'm defending horrible and lazy practice of any (AAA) game optimization ever.
This was the leak World and Iceborne sale in 2020. In Asia (not include JP), PC market is much bigger than consoles.
NonJP region means US, EU and non JP Asia.
World.pngIceborne sale.png
EU region and Sony USA have the worst drop off into expansion. Obviously, JP overall is the least drop off.
That Asia is the bigger or even biggest audience for MonHun and maybe many of Top games on Steam peaking hours. Maybe except Marvel Rivals, R6 Siege, BG3, Helldivers 2 and CoD as far as I know, their peak times are more aligned to US time zone.

I'd have to hazard a guess it's a mixture of things. I figured this MH would be much more successful than World, but these numbers are insane. With MH becoming more known amongst the mainstream once World released and its momentum leading up to this, Wilds being a day one PC release, people looking for something new/different to play, the marketing at the shows, Steam in China, and more gamers adopting PC it kind of seems like a perfect storm. Certainly helps that a sizable amount of people are enjoying the gameplay, and for some that's all you need. That's definitely the main reason why I can stomach this shoddy port.

Unfortunately, Capcom decided to fuck that all up by releasing their worst PC port I've ever had the misfortune to play through, and they've got the gall to tell us that it's our hardware. Right, the same company who recommends we use Frame Gen. Fix your fucking game, retards.
Admittedly I'm pretty angry about this because it's one of my favorite IPs and I had always wanted MH to become well known, but the monkey paw here is that Capcom completely mismanaged this launch by releasing a game that doesn't even perform well on any platform, let alone high end PC hardware. A travesty for an IP that should be treated with better care. IMO there's enough evidence to point to a rushed release and whoever was responsible needs some kind of punishment. But it's another day that ends in y, so likelihood is slim to impossible. For me, Capcom is now on my "wait and see" list regarding PC ports moving forward. I survived World, my patience was tested with DD2, and this one was the last straw so I'm fine with keeping my money next go around.

It wasn't "PEAK," I'm fucking sick of that word. The story isn't "robust" at all. Bet most players probably skipped all the cutscenes. I'll give there are a few lines of dialogue that were "cool" but it was all empty spectacle and not really deep. I'd rather they had spent that development time and money on adding more monsters to the roster than a mediocre story. But, they also removed the whimsy of quest descriptions, gutted optional quests anyway. I don't like the hunter talking to begin with, especially when I have no control over the personality dialogue choices. Again, I have a hunch this series will go further down hill from here, if they think the story was the reason this game was well received.

Oh I'm sure there's plenty of people with high end PCs, but not most people. Unless ass these 700,000+ people are on high end rigs, this raises even more questions, because I've read low graphics settings and even consoles tend to struggle.
We told you using live piranhas as fapping mittens for your wank sessions was a bad idea! WE TOLD YOU! WHY DIDN'T YOU LISTEN?!
"I can't Mr.Glory it feels good bitch!"

I noticed it from the jump, but I spent quite a long time bullying the Raths last night and got to see it more; they've got a lot of new moves/moves from their deviants. Ian has a lot of her Pink and Gold moves, lots. Particularly that double tail flip and the super charged fireballs. Shes got some brand new stuff but its the fact shes basically fully kitted that stands out to me most. Rath also has a lot of moves from rise and his azure/silver forms. Think he's got quite a bit of Dreadking in him too, and I don't think he's ever been this fire happy.
So I wasn't imagining things then? I was fairly sure Raths of both variety weren't this challenging even in HR in World, but if they inherited their variant movesets (of which I didn't play World enough to know), that would make sense.

Judging from the crowd around me that plays this game, a lot of people are running on low-medium settings just to get a smooth framerate. They certainly don't care for ultra shiny graphics or whatever as long as the game runs smooth and monsters to beat up. I personally run a midrange setup and can get a smooth experience with just turning off DLSS and whatever crappy bloom/AA they used on 1080p.

"By my authorization" and the slim amount of Rove scenes are the only memorable bits that stuck with me, as someone who tries not to skip over cutscenes the first time I see them. The premise of Nata sympathizing with Arkveld seemed interesting at first until Capcom decided to lay it on autistically thick.

Japanese media, especially in modern times, is bad about telling instead of showing. There's a lot of stilted and overly verbose dialogue that could have been better conveyed visually. Instead, you get concepts boiled down to their most basic and clear-cut forms. The idea of finding empathy for a foe through comparable tribulations is a theme that could be done well, but it's wasted in Wilds. It would be better if there were more depth, sincerity, and events involving Nata and Arkveld's interactions with one another, but it just falls flat as "he's just like me, we don't fit in".

The story is meh, on Chapter 3 so far. I took an interest at the beginning, but even for someone who sits and watches the entire story in almost all the games I play, I've been tempted to mash that skip button at times in this.

Might just be me being too cynical, but I'm also put off by the handler AND the blacksmith AND the vanguard leader all being female. There's something about the whole thing and the way it conducts itself with the repeatedly bumbling men that makes me see that PowerPoint presentation where the Capcom staff said they needed to emulate Last of Us 2.

Probably wouldn't matter so much if you weren't given so many forced walking scenes where you have no control and have to listen to them go on and on about how amazed they are. It's just tiresome.

Can't wait for every new MH to have unskippable 2 hour cutscenes with unlikable brown characters talking about shit no one cares about.
A lot of these shill YTers are saying that the story is so good and unique and such, but really, it just seems like Generic Capcom Template to me. None of the characters are particularly interesting or have anything interesting to say, and you notice it because you're just not allowed to play the game while they yammer on. I'd daresay SF6's story is better despite being generic, sheerly because you're not stuck in as many cutscenes or on-rails walking segments. Many visual designs are nice, but they have less personality than the monsters you hunt.

Japs. I cannot overstate how big this series is in Japan. There are actual companies, not game companies, actual respectable businesses that have new MH releases as Work Holidays. They played Proof Of A Hero at the Tokyo Olympics. The Nips fucking love this series. And this one has basically cut out the vast majority of the fluff and grind to let you essentially never stop hunting. That's Jap Hunter Heaven.

And the shit about the story being the reason is either cope, or feedback they've collected from tourists who were carried by supports/players and dropped the game after Arkveld. I'd even wager real money a lot of people who "praise" the story have been affiliated with capcom in the past if they're any sort of creator/reviewer or they just watched the cutsecenes on youtube.

Yeah they've gotten a "glow up" as the kids say. Rathian even has the spiral tail flip, and I think Rathalos has a mini World Tour™️. Shits cool and it's the most fun I've had fighting the regular Raths in a long time. Kind of a running theme with the hunting in the game for me tbh.

I played as a recreation of my female World Hunter(after way too much effort) which made it even worse in that regard. It did work for the narrative so there's that, but yeah. I'd have liked to have had at least one other badass dude hunter involved in the story besides Ace Lancer, who immediately becomes a waste of after his bit in the story is done. Can't even use him as a support.

I mean, one look at the international vs domestic sales of world will already disprove this, but if you need even more proof that monhun is stagnant in Japan, if not on a decline, and the growth comes entirely from the west (and also from china in the case of wilds at least), here you go:

You know guys, i really tried to give the story a try but when i saw that the conversations had alot of nothing and the forced conversations + slow galloping reminded me of fucking modern sony games and i just checked out and started to skip almost everything. J get the feeling that MH will turn into Final Fantasy, cutscene wise going forward.

Yeah I have no idea how people "organically" think this trash story is any good. At best, its barely tolerable tripe that explains why you're here in the "East" doing hunter things but do we really need to be babysitting a brown kid along the way?

I am not kidding when I say I think they should have started with HR for veterans, because at least they go back to "hey hunter hunt monster pls" style quests with no bullshit there. (Well some bullshit, but no forced walk and talk is heaven).

Ironically while they spend whole LR part of the game trying to give us reasoning why we are hunting these monsters, they then went and basically removed the descriptions from optional quests. In older games optional quests had some really funny descriptions and reasons why that particular monsters had to be hunted down. In Wilds every optional quest description is just: "An investigator surveying the Forbidden Lands has reported sightings of a large monster. Please check the request details before you head out to investigate".

Guild Receptionists/Handlers are always women and the blacksmith is a returning child character but now grown up.
Yeah? So make the Ace or whatever the forward soldier is a male? It just seems weird with none in either a combat role or a hard-labour profession, not to mention that both the bug nerd and the old grump both fuck up along the course of the story and need to be saved from their reckless endangerment of others. Haven't seen anything like that from the Big Three as of Chapter 3.
