Started Secret Six. Its interesting. Catman is fun. Jeanette is interesting. Never read Infinite Crisis but I know this is the lead up to it. I can't remember if its that plus Identity Crisis that's a mess. But then I get confused because there's Countdown, Blackest Night, New 52, and Final Crisis...too much crisis. Cheshire I've missed you you crazy ass bitch. The team has an interesting dynamic.
Regarding Marvel can someone clarify something for me?
@MirrorNoir,
@Alexander Thaut,
@Nick Obre, I throw up the kiwi symbol to you all. Its concerning Moira McTaggert. Okay so I know she was revealed to have a backup data of her son because she wanted to clone him. Now around 2001, she found the legacy virus cure but Mystique blew up Muir Island and slit Banshee's throat. Moira died on the blackbird and it looked like her spirit did some weird ascension thing. Banshee dies some years later.
Now flash forward to 2018/9 and Krakoa happens. (I haven't been able to keep up because there's just so much now.) She's revealed to have survived and surprise she's a mutant. Then it turns out there are multiple versions/lives of her....so is one of those versions the one that Mystique killed? If so, she sees Mystique is clearly back on Krakoa...so wouldn't she want to get revenge on her? And then does she not have a son this version?
All you need to know about Secret Six from Infinite Crisis and Villains United (the mini S6 spun out of) is that Cheshire fucked Catman and Vandal Savage is gay/dating Knock Out (a would be Female Fury from Apokalips). Oh and Catman now looks like Patrick Swayze.
As for the X-Men shit, it's long and VERY VERY complicated.
First off, Moira didn't back up her son. In a Classic X-Men back up story that Fabian Nicieza wrote that ran, IIRC in the same issue as the reprint of #129, Fabian retconned a healing factor ability into Proteus's original body that contradicts a major plot point from the original Proteus Saga, where Moira had to put her son in a stasis chamber (labeled "Mutant X") because her son's reality warping power was going to kill him via burning out his body, turning him into an energy being that would dissipate if he didn't possess another human body (which would burn out as well).
The story ends with Moira being convinced by Banshee to destroy her clone of her son and the remaining DNA samples of him so that her son would stay dead. The story amounted to nothing outside of Fabian namechecking it in Kings of Pain (which brought Proteus back to life, granted permanently nerfed so he can't kill people anymore by possessing them).
Second your details are wrong/confused.
>>Mystique goes crazy-crazy after learning Destiny was involved in a government conspiracy to experiment on mutants, alongside Mr Sinister, Professor X's dad, Juggernaut's dad, and an evil mad scientist named Black Womb and getting exposed to Celestial energies that briefly turned her into a double of her X-Men movie counterpart. She kidnaps Moira and somehow manages to create a new strain of the legacy virus that only kills humans and in the process, inadvertedly also finds a cure for the legacy virus. She also reassembles the Brotherhood and sends them to kill Robert Kelly while the X-Men raid Muir Island to stop her. During the fight, Wolfsbane gets depowered using Forge's power stealing gun by Mystique, who Rogue stabs after she Mystique does the same to her. Moira got beat up by Mystique when she gets taken captive, so badly by her causing her legacy virus (she's infected and is the only human with the disease; this becomes semi-important later on) to flair up and she dies. But not before passing the cure along to Xavier telepathically in the moments before her death. Mystique later reveals her desire to wipe out humanity is because Destiny's diaries predicted a coming apocalypse level event against the Earth that is left vague as to if it was Cassandra Nova or Master Khan from Xtreme X-Men and Mystique believing a planet of mutants would survive the apocalypse/stop it.
After this, two things happen. One Marvel launches a Mystique ongoing, and the other Mystique turning up in Joe Casey's UXM run as the secret mastermind of a major plot to hijack the original version of X-Corps, run by Banshee. Mystique slits Banshee's throat here before falling into a portal that leads to her next appearance in the Draco where she gets rescued by the X-Men.
The Mystique ongoing as such, has to retroactively take place AFTER the Draco, as the premise is Xavier forcing Mystique to do black ops shit for him and Forge as her handler. The first couple of issues are notorious for having Mystique claim that an impersonator killed Moira and cured the legacy virus. This was VERY unpopular, so much so that Marvel dropped it and never brought it up again and had everyone sidestep the issue of Mystique killing Moira.
Now, cut to House of X/Power of X where Jonathan Hickman pulled a Bendis and threw X-Men lore/canon into a wood chipper and retroactively declared that Moira was always a secret mutant stuck in a Mobius loop hell where everytime she died, her mind went back to her fetus form with a thirteen year window where she is vulnerable to be killed before her power kicks in at puberty and killing her resets the timelline. Oh and Xavier, Magneto, and Mr Sinister knew all about this and were working together secretly behind the scenes and could have prevented all sorts of tragedies and horrors but didn't.
Now, Hickman didn't give a shit about lore and canon when he retconned this nor did he even acknowledge Moira's always suspicious contraction of the Legacy Virus (which only affects mutants), which is the thinnest of fig leaves one could invoke to say that the bullshit retcon makes sense.
Moira lives through around nine lives when House/Power of X comes out. Really early on, Moira wanted nothing more than to basically offer up a mutant cure for any mutant who wants to be normal/live a normal life.... until Destiny/Mystique came along in this early number life.
Destiny basically proclaimed that Moira's cure (which she intended to be voluntary) would be hijacked by the military to depower people by force and that because of this, not only did Moira have to die but she had to be bullied into "contributing to the mutant cause", which Destiny using the fact that she was older than Moira, to basically tell Moira she had to get involved in the mutant struggle even if it killed her, or else Destiny would see her betrayal and murder her before her power kicks in, permanently killing her. Then burned her alive. SLOWLY.
This caused Moira to develop a complete and total hatred for Destiny and by extension Mystique, but mostly Destiny. This leading to her basically banning Destiny from being resurrected from the dead. Xavier and Magneto meanwhile used the prospect of bringing her back to life to get Mystique to do wetworks for them, mostly trying to stop Nimrod from being created.
Adding to this, Power of the X had several "diary" entries from Moira that in the barest of bare boned explainations "explained" what happened in Hickman's "fuck continuity" continuity regarding Moira's "death"; in one diary issue, Moira decided to go underground to help do the needed initial shit to form Krakoa. So Xavier arranged to have a "Shi'ar Golem" sent to Earth to take Moira's place and "die". With the added "fuck you that's why", being that Hickman never once mentioned the Legacy Virus or Moira having it.
As such, Moira hates Destiny more or less and Mystique by proxy. Ironically, neither knew WHY Moira hated them or that she was alive when Destiny got brought back to life and found out about Moira and her powers and her hate boner for her as the timeline reset meant that they never had to conversation that made the Moira's mortal enemies.
