Chainsaw Man - Peak Fiction in the making

Finally, is this artist really asking for commissions for a character that came out a week ago and has not even been on 20 pages yet? :story:
He already did two pages each for Power and Kobeni, with one for Himeko too which is likely over three hundred dollars spent on fucking fetish comics. He fully intends on doing an entire series with every female Chainsaw Man character, and by "doing" I mean "spending". This is some OnlyFans levels of simping, and the artist is a Mexican man.

I never truly understood how Vore could be something that turns you on to the point of spending 300$ on commissions. Like how are you turned on by someone eating/swallowing someone else?

This sentence is really fucking funny in retrospect of the more recent chapters, but I really do agree.

I wanna like Death so bad because she's honestly pretty cute, but there's this one gooner in a server I'm in who's spending obscene amounts of money commissioning vore comics from a specific guy. He's an actual artist too, which makes him spending probably hundreds on fetish comics even more baffling.

I've learned to distance myself from the fanbases of characters/media that I like. It's helped me to keep liking the media that I'm interacting with and not to have to deal with fans/gooners who ruin everything. Example: nowadays, Makima is just seen as a "dommy mommy" who asks you to bark for her and not the complex antagonist that she truly is.

Also, ask yourself this; is this a server you need to be in?

It's so hard not to make the obvious joke again.

I think I have an idea of Death as a character.

Makima and Yoru's powers both tie into their own mindset, and their own opinions of people. I think Death's main power is 'Instantly kill anyone she's hostile towards.'

We have a recurring theme of it being lonely at the top, and Death is at the very top. Everyone speculated that she'd cause mass casualties just by showing up. I think she wants friends, but she's saddled by three main problems: Limited empathy (standard to devils), thinking of things through the lens of her Name (standard to devils), and no socialization (due to everyone being scared shitless of her).

Her savior complex is due all of these. "I want to make friends, making friends is helping people, helping means preventing suffering, you can't suffer if you're dead." Her cowardice is performative, trying to convince herself she's scared instead of mad, so she can explain this.

Death is not the bad guy. Shes anxious because life gives her anxiety. She is the complete polar opposite of Denji who values life even with the suffering. Death doesn't value life, she thinks death is the only way to ease the suffering that is living. I'm glad Fuji didn't make her a generic doomsday villain who wants to end the world. Death truly believes she's doing the right thing and she's saving the world. Its also why I dont believe Denji will defeat her by fighting. He'll convince her the value of living. The real final villain will be Yoru who wants to actually cause the age of devils.

Oh, and I believe the "Death will descend" is false. Death has always been on Earth. It's Death final death that will cause the age of devils. If Death dies then Yoru can start her endless war she always dreamed of. It'll be an endless nightmare. Agings world gave us a brief look at how horrible a fate awaits us if we cant die. I see /a/ having a meltdown claiming Fuji retconned it the Prophecy. But, like, is it a retcon if the characters themselves are wrong? There was never any proof the prophecy was real. Fami could be wrong or feeding Public Safety a bunch of BS.

I also think the Primal Devils want this to happen. The Primals want Death to be erased.

No death means fear from devils is endless, it's basically kickstarting the Cruelty Squad universe. I wouldn't be surprised if part 2 ends with Total Yoru Victory, and part 3 is Denji going against the primal devils.

I hate the fact that hybrids can just resurrect willy-nilly. In a manga where death is supposed to be so tragic impactful, it cheapens the story a lot. Katana Man and Quanxi were brought back and served zero purpose, you could write anyone else to do what they did and there would have been no difference. I thought Reze's death was done really well to set up Makima as the next big thing (and it was fucking awesome!), but that's all null and void now because I know she just respawned somewhere with no consequence. And Barem will be back soon to terrorize Denji yet again (I still don't understand why he didn't eat him when he had the chance). Heck, even the control devil - one of the four *fucking* horsemen - has to lose all of its memories and become a completely different person when it resurrects while hybrids have zero drawbacks to it.

I don't really think it cheapens the story. Not being able to truly die is a core part of Denji's character. Although, I agree with you that bringing back Quanxi and Katana Man was somewhat unnecessary, but they don't have a major role in the story, so it's alright for me.

Finally, it makes you care more for characters who can actually die, such as Asa/Yoru, Nayuta, humans (like Kobeni or Himeno), and fiends (like Power).

What's the difference characters that can't die and shows that never kill their characters anyways? As long as it's established who cares?

I would much rather a character have insane amounts of plot armour and not die at all than to have a really cool, memorable end that gets overturned because the writer felt like it. That way death is still final.

It lets Fujimoto torture Denji more.

I actually like Katana Man, I find stupid villains entertaining.
Katana Man in Part 2 was really funny, I hope he comes back to keep jobbing since his goofiness is endearing.

As for the general discussion on Hybrids, I think it could be fine as it can give a chance to reuse certain characters again like I'd like to see more Barem and Reze. Though I wonder if we can ever see a hybrid truly die since I don't think we only ever saw fiends and devils perma-die. I wonder if hybrids can only die by being eaten or just killed without regeneration since I think if Denji's body parts were all scattered or destroyed completely, he'd probably die.

On the Hybrid talk, I'm mostly positive.
I think Denji not being able to die is a great part of his character and the story.
I loved the return of Katana man, it was excellent and I hope he returns again. As for Quanxi, her return felt underwhelming and pointless so far, maybe it is a set up for some future event, but she wasn't necessary.
I'd love to see Barem and Sword Man again, they were great and I feel they could have more to do in the story. The fact that an asshole like Barem could just come back at any time is such a nice plot point.

My only grievance is Reze. Her story ended perfectly and I wouldn't want to see her return. However, I also got the read that if she was ever "free" again, the first thing she would do is look for Denji. So my only interpretation of her situation is that she is locked up somewhere. But I can't help feeling that she has to return eventually, even though I wouldn't want her to.
If the series were to end without her return I'd be frustrated, but if she was to return I'd probably be disappointed. It's a no-win situation.

Reze Movie got an official release date (for Japan anyway) which is going to be on September 19th

They even showed off new visuals for the characters, and not going to lie, I loved both art styles but some look much better than Season 1's art style

Reze not coming back would be so weird, my instinct is Fujimoto may have her return near the same time as the movie, but I also hope Kishibe returns too since his disappearance honestly feels much more weird than Reze's as every other hybrid made a reappearance except for her (and her last appearance was as one of Makima's henchmen in the final battle)

From what little I saw it looks like they're not blowing their budget on gimmicky animation this time around. The animation looks much rougher and faster paced, which is a net positive here.

Personally I really liked Season 1's style, but I would admit that I think the faster paced style that the movie is promising would work best for the rest of Part 1. That Season 1 style would probably work better for a lot of Part 2's arcs (except Falling and Aging Devil Arcs)

New designs are good. Makima's tits were too big in the original anime, she's fairly flat chested in the manga.

Power looking younger is good too, she's the same age as Denji 15/16 not 20.
