I doubt they were demoing it at all, I bet ubisoft just counted everyone with premium (or whatever name of that tier is) as "player" for theoretically having access to it, whether they actually play it or not. From this angle, it makes sense that a good chunk of their "3 million players" total are evaluating the game on Ubisoft+ monthly.
hearsay was tencent wanted to spend more on ubisoft proper, but the frogs made the conditions they stay in charge. tencent obviously not completely dumb, letting the retards that wrecked the company in the first place stay in charge, just went "lol nope" and dropped the offer.Pretty sure that's why Tencent invested 1.16 billion EUR into the subsidiary and not Ubisoft proper.
this new company is the compromise that has been talked about for a few weeks now, ubisoft can do whatever they want with all their other IPs, but the moneymakers tencent cares about are "safe" and under more control from tencent from this point on. if that is just 4d chess to get more of ubisoft later on or simply raise their stake in that new company is anyone's guess at this point.
