Assassin's Creed thread

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
than it has shown itself capable of to right it's course to the point it can buy back those properties
Way I see it, whatever deal accounted for the creation of this new subsidiary was struck years ago, back when Ubisoft was starting into the abyss, but had not yet his rock bottom, their recent troubles merely strengthening Tencent's negotiating position.

I assume there's now more talks going on to gut Ubisoft further, because they, institutionally, lack the ability and willingness to steer the ship around, and both Ubisoft and Tencent know this.

They don't have the technical talent to innovate, or make anything new or ambitious, and if they attempted to make a profitable product their workforce would riot because their only motivation is to spite gamers and shit on what they like.

The reception Shadows got should have been a clear warning sign for Ubisoft to chage things, drastically - yet they doubled, tripled and quadrupled down to the point they're now the source of a (minor) international incident, their idiocy the topic of discussion in the Japanese Diet.

I've seen some people argue that it was deliberate sabotage at the behest of Tencent, but I doubt it, since the fuckups were all so comical and easily avoidable that if anyone competent, or even remotely sane, was in the loop, they would have caught them. After the first two gaffes any sane company would have hired on actual experts and outside help to triple-check all their press release material to ensure they wouldn't get humiliated again, but not Ubisoft.

Oh no, they're so completely consumed by Marxist ideology that I doubt there's anyone remotely competent working there - all the main offices are staffed with middle managers and HR Karens, while what passes for the real work is done by hordes of jeets, million monkeys with a typewriter style, hence why it takes 2000+ people to shit out something as embarrassingly mediocre and insultingly woke as Shadows.

The people calling the shots care more about owning the chuds and ruining their games out of spite than anything else really, and why should they care? For more than a decade now all their fuckups have been rewarded and paid for by the EU, USA and Canada. Why bother making icky content for White, straight men, when you can make agitprop and leech off taxpayers like a proper liberal parasite?

The really funny/tragic part is that Ubisoft is the ultimate devolution of all major Western studios - we can already see the same happening with Bethesda and EA, and more companies will follow suit.

I genuinely welcome the chink takeover, because there is quite literally nothing worthwhile left to salvage, so I might as well enjoy watching the whole industry get bleed dry by the Chinese locusts.

I wonder if Ubisofts lawyers have been sending letters to people because all of a sudden asmon, cohh, uppereshalon are all backing off on criticizing the game and attacking the ~gamers~ for being toxic.

All have the same memes:

"Its OK"

"Both sides are wrong"

"its exhausting talking about games"

its a return to form! all over again

When it comes to characters to play as representations of themselves, the vast majority of guys will go with something like them. The Human Male Fighter meme exists for a reason.

Gacha slop may appear different... but it's really not. You have to keep in mind that a key detail in gacha slop games is that they'll have an offscreen character act as the protagonist stand-in, someone that everyone else talks to and someone for audiences to project themselves onto - and they're usually depicted as either ambiguous or male. Blue Archive has Sensei, Kancolle has the Admiral, Arkknights has the doctor, I could go on. And it's that layer of seperation from the gacha pulls that allow male players to chase female characters without fearing themselves being of the Big Gay.
You honestly made a great point I hadn't considered before. It's undeniable that gacha games are a multibillion-dollar industry that is largely dominated by female playable characters. Some gatcha slops even literally only have female characters as playable. Or at least, they vastly outnumber males. It's not even subtle.

That being said, you are right in that they all usually have an option to have a male character who is technically the main character, for players to project onto, but who fades into the background. I do think men love to play as female characters—gacha numbers don't lie. But the secret ingredient might be a degree of separation from them and the female characters. Such as a male playable option.

nice to see that of the 64,627 people who actually bought this crap, only 2% finished playing it.

They should have let Desmond be an actual assassin. Dropping him right when he was getting headway was fucking retarded.
They kept teasing that until they effectively killed him and all the animus abstergo nonsense should have ended there. After all that i feel they should have branched off into Desmond's adventures as an Assassin in the 'real' world and keep the other part of the series alt history. AC nowadays doesn't know what it wants to be because they they want to stick with a formula they clearly hate which is pseudo alt history but as told by Ubisoft so they're going to bend the rules of that a bit and claim something was "accurate" so they can justify pandering.

but every time they pussied out and added a dude to boost sales.
nah. i'm pretty sure the execs were like that marvel ceo and always forced in a male character.

i always felt they should have made AC4 with that in mind, like have it all be from "the journals of edward kenway" and skip all the other silly nonsense. like chapter select would just be him re-reading one of the diary entries, same with multiplayer just being him rereading stories he heard of "pirate brawls" and you can follow that same "diary" format for the rest of the games.

You already know they have the symptoms when their argument is the classic "Well if I'm going to be staring at ass all game it might as well be hot ass." which already raises red flags for reasons I hopefully shouldn't even need to explain.
that's dumb armchair psychology right after "people who can't identify with the main character can't emphasize with the story". by the same logic any dude who enjoys a classic strong female character like ripley or sarah connor is moments away cutting their balls off.

fuck that reminds me there was some dude a while ago claiming tomb raider turned people into troons. where the fuck does that ass-backwards logic even come from?

men just want to see an attractive female kick ass and fuck shit up, it doesn't go any deeper than that, no need to overthink it.

I don't think you actually read my post.

"Though I should also give the caveat that this usually applies to games that give you the choice, usually games that allow you to create your own character. Not games where you literally have no choice. So there's that at least."
I literally didn't even say "Any male who likes female characters is a tranny in the making." you stupid retard. :lossmanjack:
The most common cases being RPGs or MMOs where you find trannies or proto-trannies creating avatars of what they wished they looked like. More or less.

EDIT: You can rate me dumb and autistic if you want but I'm telling you it's a clear warning sign. We'll see who's laughing in the end. :story:

Not all men who play female characters are troons, but all troons play as female characters.
And this is from a person who tends to pick playing as a female character.

On the other hand there's a lot of homosexual men who pick playing as men for the eyecandy. So either way you're fucked and a faggot

Alright so I'm weirdly nostalgic all of a sudden for an ass game despite only playing and beating 1 and brotherhood. What's the best standalone one that actually feels self contained and cool despite the stupid animus shit? I've always hated how comic book the templar vs assassin conflict is and would like something interesting.

I'm actually leaning towards unity for some reason

Black Flag has almost zero animus stuff, they sort of retcon it as abstergo tech used to get fun memories to make video games, also the main character isn't part of any faction, he sort of does his own thing. But as fun as it is, it barely feels like an AC game. If you haven't, I'd recommend a HUDless AC1, having no minimap, health bar and all the rest immerses you much more and makes the eagle vision useful.

Unity was the correct direction to take the series in, with the revamped combat/stealth mechanics as well as the modern day being almost completely absent. It was and is, unfortunately, still a broken fucking mess because Ubisoft shit it out too soon.

Doubly unfortunately, Ubi, being massive retards, saw the backlash from it being literally unfinished and unplayable and reached the brilliant conclusion that people didn't like how it had become more complicated than previous entries, so they revamped the formula again with syndicate, which was a shallow dumbed-down handhold-y mess with shit characters and map layout so poorly planned that they had to add a batman grapnel gun to even navigate it, and that game was such a colossal fuck up that they completely rebooted the series and turned it into a wannabe witcher rpg .

I can still semi-recommend Unity because it has a lot of good stuff the series never brought back, just keep in mind it's busted and jank as fuck.

Black Flag has so little in common with the other games in the series that I honestly think it was an unrelated pirate IP that they slapped the Assassin's Creed name on for marketing purposes.

I mean it was just a fine tuned, less drab reskin of AC3, including the ship combat. I'm pretty sure that it was always intended as an AC game, but the main story was over so it was more concerned with having fun with the setting over pushing an actual narrative forward compared to the rest of the series.

Outside of introducing the sages and Juno being trapped in cyberspace (which were both dropped in later games anyway) it didn't really do anything overarching plot-wise. People cared more about Edward's story and his journey as a character. It's why so many people who don't give a shit about AC can still pick up Black Flag and fuck around as a pirate to their hearts content.

This is Assassin's Creed Odyssey completion.

I would post Valhalla but I can't figure out which one is actually the fucking campaign ending achievement.
Excluding the optional regions, the last one is Hamtunscire. I'm looking at Steam specifically, on there, only 1.1% got to Shadows' epilogue, so that's bleak.

and you can follow that same "diary" format for the rest of the games.
I mean even if they wanted to keep the animus framing just do what the beginning of Unity did. Present the games as Abstergo entertainment products where you just experience the ancient characters story.

The modern day section literally doesn't need to exist anymore.
