This is new to me. And I don’t buy it (the execs’ fears).

There’s a huge overlap in the fandom with Gacha slop games, and you’ll notice the biggest sellers are female characters. It’s not even close. They’ll even outright genderbend males to women, to the point the most common complaint from women is that men are vastly outnumbered. Some female characters have brought more money than this game ever will out of sheer male fanboyism.

Now, if they plan to have an ugly female main character, then yeah—they’ll fail. That’s a given. But an attractive one? It’d sell like hotcakes. I see zero reason people wouldn't be lining up for a cute or pretty assasin character. Even this game wouldn't be so deep in the water with a cute female ninja lead (but they really should've gone with a japanese dude).

The real issue is they want to have their cake and eat it: a female character, that is also a ugly (because men liking sexy women bad), and/or a obnoxious girl boss to “own the chuds.” This type of female character would fail and they know it.

Slightly off topic but I'm gonna be real with you. I've come to notice A LOT of males who insist on wanting to play as big booby female characters almost always turn out to be trannies from my experience.
You already know they have the symptoms when their argument is the classic "Well if I'm going to be staring at ass all game it might as well be hot ass." which already raises red flags for reasons I hopefully shouldn't even need to explain.
So I'm always wary of those types of people for that reason.

Though I should also give the caveat that this usually applies to games that give you the choice, usually games that allow you to create your own character. Not games where you literally have no choice. So there's that at least.

I'd love to play as male characters but they never get any good customization. You can be a hairy viking or a buzzcutted otter. That's it. Sometimes rarely you can make a believable negro man with rizz but why would you want to?

like in AC3 when you get the gun from clay you can kill everyone in your path without consequence. Unless the modern ac takes place in the uk or china you're sort of fucked.

This is the main reason why they will never do a modern day AC or anything in an era that contains relatively modern firearms because that would mean they would actually have to make good stealth gameplay again.

And hilariously enough they waited too long to actually do modern times in watch dogs legion. It's neat but of course the token assassin has to be black woman you can't change.

Truth be told I found Darcy completely inoffensive. Like she's literally just a black woman it's not like they tried to push any kind of agenda with her that I could see.
Because I'm a retard though I more or less played the entire game as her. Tbh I don't think I would have had as much fun with the game if I wasn't going around stabbing people with my hidden blade.

I will say her default outfit was ugly as fuck though. I just dressed her up in Desmond's outfit once I unlocked it.
But yeah she's about as bland and boring as every fucking character in the game so her being an assassin is literally all she really had going for her.

I should also preface that I used mods to change her loadout to give her more assassin tools like a smoke grenade and an actual gun and not that shitty one shot pistol she has that's not even silenced. It was honestly really fun just pretending I was playing a modern AC game as pathetic as that sounds.

Also her entire mission like the one you do to unlock her is just full of 'member berries. So that was kind of stupid but whatever.

Speaking of which, remember that Beyond Good and Evil game? Yeah, that was kind of nice. Let's make a sequel for it, I bet we can churn one out in a couple of years!

A game that begins with defending orphans from being abducted by aliens that are allowed to wreak havoc by the subverted local government. After which the main character sneaks into secretive military facilities to obtain photographic proof of alien invasion and kidnapping of humans to publish on the local Infowars network.
Gee, I wonder why that story won't fly today.

While I concede gatcha slop games usually have a male stand-in option, there are still examples out there with only playable female characters, and they are literal licenses to print money.

You could easily have a male stand-in, like Desmond was with the animus or whatever. But otherwise, I don’t see any reason why a cute, hot, or sexy female lead assassin wouldn’t sell well. What they try to push are obnoxious female characters designed as a middle finger to men by femcel and soyboy devs. These characters are purposely given manly faces, and no ass or boobs (pardon the blunt language, but there’s no other way to put it) and an eye-rolling girlboss attitude. No shit men don't like them. And then they act like men hate women in general when they inevitably fail.

I literally just Googled and found Kaihime, a real historical Japanese warrior woman who lived during the events of Assassin's Creed Shadows and was described as the “most beautiful woman in east Japan.” Couldn’t they have made her an assassin? Or at least a co-lead? Unlike Yasuke, she was a historic warrior. They only seem to want female characters if they can be used as statements against men, so depicting a pretty lady that men might like is a no-go. If they truly wanted to, nothing was stopping them from having a cute, likable female co-lead in this game or even a main character over Yozuke.

Don’t get me wrong I do concur that a japanese man should have been lead. Hanzo was the obvious choice, but I just don’t buy the “ men hate playing female characters“ narrative.

Before the gays and the tranny craze exploded, I generally lumped men who played girls when given the choice in as crossdressers.

I get awesome characters like Samus or Chun-Li and such in their respective titles but when given the option to create one? Seemed kind of faggy, and it was back when pretending to be one got you additional loot and attention in MMOs.

It's probably because Japan is suffering a social catastrophe, but I've noticed how there are overwhelmingly more female characters made for gachas than there are males, and frankly it's a little tiring. Male characters by comparison don’t sell as well. Women seem to be a minority in gatcha games so they don’t cater them that much either.
