Nintendo Switch 2 - For the Soytendo consoomers to speculate about the successor to the Switch, recently announced for 2025.

given that it's a simple hardware revision
I mean, this is just patently untrue. I don't know how fast emulation will come to switch 2, it's 100% going to happen eventually because nintendo actually has games people want to emulate, and no amount of lockdown can beat the sheer force of autism, but under the hood, this is far from just a switch pro, or something that would be as easy as dolphin adding wii support.

how? it is literally a linear upgrade: bigger screen, more RAM, bigger internal drive, blah, blah. even the CPU is being swapped out for just a slightly better shitty NVIDIA mobile ARM CPU. correct me if I'm wrong, but given that the Switch 2 has effectively arbitrary backwards compatibility with Switch 1 titles, I would say it's safe to assume that as far as the games are concerned - which means, as far as the emulation layer is concerned - the system itself has not meaningfully changed outside of its numerical performance and, potentially, the new controller (though you can simply use the old controller for any games that do not explicitly require the new one, if there are any)

switch 2 to this website has
>faster gpu by 20% (1007mhz to 800mhz)
>50% more ram (12gb vs 8gb)
>nearly double the tflops when even in handheld mode (3.09 vs 1.84)
>896 more shading units
>modern Wifi 6 support
>and supports 4k

ps4 advantages
>faster CPU clock speed (but god awful archtechure) 1.6ghz vs 1.1ghz (both have 8 cores)
>faster memory bandwidth (176gbs vs 102gbs)
and thats it for objective hardware the other pros for the ps4 is legit "62 mm shorter" and that its "DLNA-certified" whatever that means
i feel this website is retarded, like userbenchmarks
Your powers of observation astound me, good robot. In case you didn't notice, the S2 doesn't even have all the specs out on the comparison, and it already wins out. Which should be expected given that it's 2025, but I digress.

I've mentioned it already, but this direct was a 9/10 on its own. It's all the bullshit they intentionally hid from the direct that drops it to a 6.5/10

I mean, if you look beyond the arbitrary number and at the actual specs listed down below, the switch 2 honestly smokes the ps4 out of the water, with it probably being a hair under a ps4 pro, and far closer to it than the ps4 is to switch 2.
See above. Either way, the S2 beating a 12 year old console and bordering on a 9 year old console is not the win you think it is.

But, niggercattle gonna niggercattle. A buddy of mine told me he just couldn't miss out on playing MP4 in 120 frames or 4k, and is going to consoom like the good little faggot he is. It's no wonder Ninty keeps getting away with it.

The key cards just add to all the e-waste. They won't be collectable in the same sense that regular games are either. You can't just lend your game to a friend, they pop it in and it works right out of the box. The next step is no more physical copies. And being stuck with a bunch of useless key cards once the servers go down one day and you can no longer download the game.

I think the chat feature is cool. But how long until some parent complains that a pedo tried to cyber their six year old? You know what happened with Swap Note on the 3DS. And that was just text and drawings. And someone will definitely flash their penis on that camera. I hope those parental controls are top notch.
I bought the Arkham trilogy for the Switch and it's like that. Arkham Knight needs to be downloaded. But Asylum and City are on the card. The switch port of Arkham Knight is bad anyway. You at least have a physical copy of the two good ports.
The slot for Switch 2 game cards can read regular Switch game cards, they are the same physical format.
The switch 1 and 2 both use the same cards for the most part aside from the S2 card being faster and red. They claim S1 cards will work.
That's a positive at least. But it's not much considering everything else. I would just keep my Switch around if that wasn't the case. I turned into a physical copy fag and started buying them for the switch.
450 for the console I can understand and get behind, but fuck off with those game prices. Who the fuck would buy a game-key card game anyway? It's just a digital game with extra steps. Nintendo and their stupid fucking ideas and gimmicks. I'm interested in Metroid 4, but I'm still baffled that they just released MP1 remastered and then left it at that.
No, it's ridiculous asking $450 for the Switch 2. They said it's equivalent to the PS4 in terms of hardware capability. As usual with consoles the PS4's hardware was already obsolete when it released because that's how consoles are. Nintendo is charging people for really outdated hardware at this point. It should be like $300 or so maybe $350 a the most.
The fromsoft exclusive looks like it would be pretty fun to play on a headfull. Probably the only thing I'd want to play on that system though.
Just wait a while. There will be a PC release and probably on other systems. The day of exclusives are over. I can play PS games on my PC. It's just a matter of time and that game will be ported over to other systems. It would be like leaving money on the table and that's not going to happen. Probably in a year or so.
It's for Redditors who have giant shelves of video games on display and want THE PLASTIC BOX OH MY GOD THE PLASTIC BOX I NEED THE PLASTIC MY COLLECTION I HAVE NO CHOICE.
I keep all my Switch game cases. I have that stashed away in boxes but not shelves. If I ever want to resell them, I can get more with a game in a case. I also can't bring myself to throw them away. lol

Looking at the mario kart 8 footage from the treehouse shit, stinks of feature creep. I get they had to 1 up 8 so they added the open world shit. even the driving everywhere thing would be fine but I can not imagine a worse feeling thing than trying to play open world bing bing wahoo and the courses being connected feels like fluff and filler to reuse assets.
the main thing with mario kart is that grand pres are quick to finish in one play session, the way having the interludes makes it alot less able to just play in bursts or practice
i mean mario kart 8 had 96 courses, its not like 9 could just have 800 courses to surpass it, the game had to do something, open world does sound retarded but if they combine it with a diddy kong racing style story/unlockables it would probably do very well.

Has Nintendo every done anything but charge people for horribly outdated hardware? But I see your point. The reason I can get behind $450 is because of the portability. Though, I'll admit, the price of the games might skew my view on the price. Five physical games and you've already paid the same as you did for the console.

I think what the original poster meant was that they care more about the plastic boxes themselves, and being able to have them in their collection, is more important than the games themselves. Like how so many games came out as "Code in box" just so that people could collect the cases.

Connecting the tracks in knockout mode sounds a lot of fun but it's weird to also use the open world connection idea in normal Grand Prix. I feel that's gonna make them feel constrained with track choices since they have to make sense being within reasonable distances of each other

given that it's a simple hardware revision ("simple" meaning a direct increase to computing power rather than a fundamental change to the hardware architecture), it's doubtful they've made any serious changes to the system software or BIOS, meaning the current Yuzu forks should already be 90% of the way there at launch. the main obstacle will be, I imagine, a possible revision to the way game decryption is handled. but if they do change that system, I imagine it would only apply to Switch 2 exclusives, since the system is hardware-based and thus can't be remotely changed on the original Switch models that are already out there. it's entirely possible that Switch emulators will be able to play Switch 2 games on day 0, which would be hilarious.
Scuttlebutt in the emudev community seems to suggest the Xenogears release with the dummied out switch 2 mode tipped them off to the chipset being used; so there's already eyes on it.

What I'm curious about is the rumor from a few months back about there being an undisclosed homebrew entrypoint via a released Switch 1 cart game, and what level of sandboxing Nintendo's using to keep something like that from turning into a full jailbreak ala the wii mode on the wiiu.

Honestly, the game prices feel like an inevitability but I really thought GTA 6 was going to be the one to shoot that gun and not Nintendo (what a twist)

Everyone in the god damn industry were calling for the increase of price standards and it honestly felt like a matter of who would take the plunge and all fingers were pointing to GTA 6 being the one with all of that "The budget is so big" nonsense.

But it was Nintendo who will lead the charge like a fucking horseman of the apocalypse.

Not only the price of the base Switch 2 doesnt seem to be worth the upgrades its bringing to the table but the game price increase really is literally pricing out a bunch of gamers out of the hobby, god forbid if you live in somewhere with a weaker currency.

This may be legit where I drop out of console gaming officially. Its not like I even have that much free time to play, my Switch barely saw any action to the point I could legit sell the fucking thing as "brand new from the box".

that is still one of the funniest moments in PC gaming history. but i agree with you, i think i said on the regular switch thread i bet a lot of switch 2 haters will still buy it day one (mostly youtuber fags), maybe its antidote scenario, reminds me of a friend saying he would boycott any PC game that was 70$, and within mere weeks, he started buying 70$ pc games. A lot of people just can't stick to their words it seems.
Edit: i also remember a friend who called all consoles a scam, but bought a RTX 5090 scalped, and that just makes me laugh in pure irony

I don’t plan on buying a Switch 2 until there’s something worth buying it for. Need something more enticing than MKW and the new Hyrule Warriors

While that Screenshot is hilarious. PC community could have pushed back hard. But people folded like a cheap suit and was really the beginning of alot of the console matchmaking nonsense we have today.

and that's respectable, I'm just more mocking those that will complain, yet still buy it day one, or those that buy other types of overpriced trash (IE 50 series of GPUs). Like i'm willing to bet people like Mutahar (some ordinary gamer) who has made videos shitting on the switch 2, will still buy it day 1, or demand a free system from nintendo, because modern tech youtubers are fags it seems (with maybe the sole execption of digital foundry, but that's debatable)

>Trying to discuss actual complaints and criticisms with the switch 2 online
>a half dozen "muh games in the 90s were $80, muh inflation, muh tariffs!" responses
>three hundred fucking "OMG, I can't believe they're selling this for $600 and games are $110 and there's absolutely no physical cartridges anymore whatsoever, and also they don't include a dock with the system, it will only play proprietary memory cards like the vita, you can't play switch 1 games on it at all without paying $20 for each of them, also none of these are actual exclusives because of [insert cope], there aren't any hall effect joysticks, and they made it so you can't even change the language on the system without paying extra!" responses

I'm not sure if some retards are aware of this, but making up shit does not in any way make it easier for actual complaints to be heard, and it's not bootlicking to call out factually incorrect statements.
