Nintendo Switch 2 - For the Soytendo consoomers to speculate about the successor to the Switch, recently announced for 2025.

LOL I seen this shit coming from a mile away. I wonder if they're gonna try to lower the prices somehow. Either way was not buying this at launch.

I still can't decide whether or not the tariffs are a convenient excuse for their audacity to make this thing $450 with $80 glorified dongles. Nintendo may have been smug enough to think this would go over fine since Nintendrones will buy anything. But there's been enough backlash that it might have made Nintendo pause to actually think about what they are doing.

I think the reason why it was so high was due to the anticipation of the tariffs. I think this is just Nintendo being fucking greedy. I have seen people defending nintendo over this. There is no fucking reason it should be this expensive even with tariffs in place. Everyone should be pissed about this. They're price gouging consumers.

Another thing is Nintendo has gotten to comfortable. Remember when the switch launched? It had Zelda at launch and nobody had a Wii U so they were getting the switch specifically for Zelda. I don't think Mario Kart has that same draw.

I don't care if I get shit for this, but the price of the system itself, assuming it  stays $450 by the time it launches, is fine. It's a bit more than I would have liked, but it's not unreasonable for the rather significant boost in power it's offering. There is an unfortunate reality about handheld systems, including hybrids like the switch, that means they will always be a higher price relative to their power than other systems on the market, and that's the fact they have a built-in screen. The screen alone is $200 of the price. I do think they could have dropped it to $399 and be just fine, because unlike sony who takes pennies from software sales, nintendo primarily sells 1st party software where they take everything but the retailer's cut. Most nintendo systems are priced at launch to be a slight loss, but small enough that one 1st party game and it breaks even for this very reason. I think there's a likelihood they added a bit to the launch price due to trade and tariff uncertainty so that if things did drastically get more expensive rather than drop in price as costs usually do throughout a generation, they wouldn't have to raise the price later and could avoid the disastrous price hikes the ps5 went through in basically every country except the US. They'd rather start it high and bring it down if they can instead of starting low and having to hike it up.

What IS unreasonable are the game prices. You could  maybe justify jumping up to the unfortunately new industry standard of $70 for certain titles like what was done with TotK, cartridges get expensive faster with storage space than cds do, however, $80 is complete fucking bullshit when nintendo is apparently the only company left on the planet that can keep development costs down to reasonable level and break even with a couple million sales rather than requiring 10 million+ AND extensive microtransactions just to break even.

The preorders aren't open yet, this is literally delaying the preorders going live.
Exactly. Delaying the preorders to work out the logistics of what units need to go where and which markets they can fleece the most.

They're going to be a convenient excuse for price rises everywhere. 10% tariffs = 50% price rises,

"They're delaying the start of the preorders because preorders (which haven't started yet) are lower than expected" is a nonsensical statement, and if you thought more than 2 seconds before posting, you'd realize it too.

I was planning on buying this console when I get my first job, but seeing the price of the games, I honestly think I'm going to stick with my modded Wii U and my PC. I'll probably buy a 2017 model Switch in the future, just so I can pirate it too, and because I like the portable mode.

The world is bigger than America. Nintendo are doing a world wide release and they have a good idea via traffic and marketing data, who will be interested in pre-ordering, where and by what quantities.
If you thought for more than two seconds before responding, you'd realise it too.

Are you being a fucking mong for the shits and giggles, or are you genuinely this retarded?

People all over the world will be asking google, alexa and whatever other niggerfaggot spy device, collecting marketing data for companies, when the Switch 2 can be pre-ordered. That data is used to project how many units are required for launch, and where.

Do you think Nintendo just guess? "Fuck it, just make, erm, 10 million units, and send them to...I don't know, a few to France and probably some to Italy and maybe canada, or not, who fucking knows?".

Its not a video game console, its all electronics, many key mineral goods, large portions of industrial machinery, toys, tvs and trash, furniture and car parts.

Basically everything except food and clothing. As a near simultaneous product launch that is getting its price revised upward this is just the canary in the coal mine but everything imported is going to cost significantly more. For you to think that its just Switches means that you're the hella retarded one with the hella retarded take.

I fully agree with you and stand party corrected, im just saying people who sperg out over the switch 2 tarrif shit over like actual minerals and industrial shit need to get their priorities straight, I do feel bad for americans in the near future where everything will be way more expensive for them.

The Wii U sold out the 400,000 units or so it had available at launch in the US. You also have to take into consideration the people that do this shit:

Surely the people that bought it on EBGames pinky promised to buy one and only one, right?
LOL you are moving the goalposts already.

Nintendo have manufactured way more stock for the Switch 2 launch than they did for the Wii, Wii U and Switch launches.

Switch 2 will easily clear 100 million units sold by 2030.

It took Switch 1 five years to hit 100 million and that was it setting itself as the first or second most successful games unit of all time. There's at least equal odds that Switch 2 doesn't get to 100 million units sold period.

The Direct seemed fine to me. I thought it was odd they didn't discuss pricing at all, but now I can see why. Really, none of this is going to affect me. I haven't liked Nintendo's business practices in a decade, once I started paying attention to them, so the 3DS is the last system I bought. I have a buddy who will eat this up though, so I can just play on his system when I visit. I checked the official website, and Mario Kart World will still have splitscreen multiplayer.

I'll have to warn him about this game-key card bullshit, however. Even he'll reject that.
