I posted back before the verdict that I expected Karl to lose, and I'd be stunned if he chose to appeal. Maybe he'll give it a go on quantum of damages, but to be honest, the amount isn't that crazy; it is the adverse costs order that is going to fuck him.

He needs to be careful. Case law in defamation in Australia has established liability for defamation for comments made by  others on your socials, which is why you see comments disabled, or severely jannied, on a lot of Australia media YouTube or Facebook. He is potentially liable for comments left by others on his videos if Billy wanted to pound the point home a little more.

Of course he seems pathologically unable to know when it is his interest to sit the fuck down.

I would love to know the advice he was given by his legal team. I read that crazy Ersatz blog and it's clear from that there is a problem distinguishing between what seems like lot of evidence for something in the online world, and what you can prove in court. The stupid blog gives examples of random comments by God knows who in online forums, and that just isn't going to cut it. Surely his legal team must have told him that. A post by an unknown online commenter is of course going to be excluded as natural justice says that the other side must be able to challenge it; that is why hearsay generally doesn't come in. Even a budget lawyer could tell you that, and Karl's team were not budget.

Of course some people just don't listen to legal advice and lawyers will draft up and file your idiotic claim if you pay them to. Look at idiot Bruce Lehrman managing to dodge a criminal conviction, only to be stupid enough to 'go back for his hat' and get branded a rapist under the civil standard.

Karl's "apology" video will be complete garbage.

A sincere, genuine apology video telling your fans you're sorry for the misdirection regarding the nature of the suit doesn't have to look nice, or be some high production thing, it just has to be sincere. He could take his phone, record himself while sitting somewhere for 3-5 minutes (even just on the toilet or something), and tell everyone you're sorry, then upload it straight from your phone.

But the reason it's taking this long is because it needs to be very carefully crafted to make himself look as good as possible. Likely showing the judgement footage that everyone has already seen, and comment over it, which is completely unnecessary, as everything in that judgement video is laid out very clearly. What's not included in that judgement video is an alternate narrative, and I don't see any reason for an apology to take such a long time if that wasn't what's coming.

As for what's next beyond that, because this guy's channel is already cooked, I'm curious if Jirard is going to try anything now. Lol

The best part is, the judge specifically said that even if Jobst's Reddit post did exist, it still wouldn't have made a difference in the trial. So Billy Mitchell (or his son) could come out and brag about this without consequences.

Everybody understands why uniforms have to meet standards. That's why they're called "uniforms".

The point here is the critical distinction between "cheating", as in violating the integrity of the competition, and "rules violations", which can be a whole bunch of other offenses but they don't actually affect the competition per se. Playing the game on a PC vs. an arcade machine is a rules violation because it doesn't effect the competition.
