According to Trump, the USA needs to have a goods surplus with all countries in the world in order for them to face a 10% tariff. This doesn't take into account America's surplus in capital investment and services. Most countries, under these conditions, will try to avoid the American market.

Diverting trade to the EU and largely waiting it out to see what happens in the next 4 years, they'll surely not go a hop skip and a jump to dump billions into building plastic doodad and GPU factories in Ohio. American consumption is huge, but it's nowhere near the majority of the global market. American firms that have to pay tariffs to import materials they need will be significantly more affected than foreign firms who won't sell to Americans anymore.

The 2 term limit, two party system, extreme partisanship, polarization and more or less mandatory re-organization of the government every 4 years more or less ensures that the US will never able to engage in any long term projects ever again because every single administration is concerned with first and foremost getting relected, and second undoing everything their predecessor did.

The US system is straight up not built to encourage long term projects, because short of subverting the system and trying to become a shadow president ala obama (hillary was supposed to be a third term and biden a fourth), the maximum possible dopamine reward is getting elected twice and that's more or less the end of it, so you have no motivation to start something your opposite party sucessor will finish.

US only made it this far because of goodwill and extremely favourable conditions that always gave the country an implicit external unified goal like fighting the bri'sh, manifesting destiny, WW2 and the cold war.

The instant there no longer was an external factor to unite the country the US gave birth to the boomers and have been circling the toilet bowl ever since.

What economic collapse? Gas isn’t more expensive, it’s cheaper than under Biden and much cheaper than it was under Obama. Eggs are more expensive because of a bird flu that is decimating US poultry and you know it’s just eggs because they never bring up any other foodstuffs. And even then eggs are like $1 more a dozen, not unobtainable and basically back to covid pricing. The only people affected are people trying to retire right now and their 401k dropped value, but if someone is that close to retirement then their money should have been moved into lower risk investments like bonds anyway. Don’t invest any money into the stock market that you aren’t willing to lose.

It's a terrible idea to do business in a country with a tax/tariff regime that changes daily depending on the whims of a man who hates foreign firms and behaves like an African kleptocrat. Also, Americans have already begun to cut their spending in anticipation of the recession that Trump is bringing on, so there goes that huge market for costlier imported goods.
