I'm not lawyer, as a disclaimer, but I can read.

Aiding and abetting, which allows you to charge the person as if they themselves committed the offence. 4 elements to be shown.

1. Federal crime occurred, which it clearly did.

2. Defendant knew about it, which detailed evidence exists to show.

3. Intended to help, by encouraging the sharing the data and using it to embarass or harm.

4. Gave aid or encouragement, by receiving the files, discussed contents or publicly shared.

This isn't even a stretch of the laws. Melton easily meets all the elements and it isn't even like an investigator would need to look too much into it.

I don't think unauthorized access to a computer system ("hacking" crimes) makes a distinction for the type of data that's found there. The crime is how the data was accessed not what data was accessed. What any of these other people unrelated to the hacking did with the data once they had access to it is a separate issue. Melton or whoever harassing someone using info derived from the data would be a crime even if permission was granted to access it in the first place.
