Amazon's Invincible - thoughts?

I took it more to be a commentary on Viltrumites as a whole, kind of why their race has wound up so deficient after that plague decimated them. They're so committed to the bit that they managed to churn out psychopaths like Conquest
Conquest is older than the plague, the reason he looks so fucked up with scars and the missing hand is precisely because the plague didn't kill him but rendered him weak for a while and those injuries never healed.

Is not that he thinks he could've been "good", the problem is he doesn't think he's doing anything wrong which is what happens with people like this.

Thank you! I thought I was the only thought that the lame-o from walking dead that they picked to voice him was horribly miscast, yet all I see online are people praising it.
The only reasons i can think of why they picked him as VA is The walking dead and the fact that he voiced Keith from Voltron which is like the same american anime wannabe cartoon character type tbh

Steven yeun is ok, but hes definitely better at acting than voice acting. His voice sounds fine, but it doesnt have much range if at all, he only ever sounds like himself.

The plague thing is new to me. I should probably read the comics at some point.

I'm gonna take this a bit farther and say that none of the voice cast are earning their ridiculously inflated paychecks. I really dislike this trend of wasting most of your animated shows budget on hiring Hollywood hacks to fill in every role. For my money the only decent actor among the "stars" is Simmons but I feel Omni-Man's moustache does a lot of heavy lifting in making him look and sound like a super-powered JJ Jameson because a lot of his delivery is also pretty flat. Aaron Paul was incredibly distracting as is Sandra Oh everytime her character opens up her mouth to deliver more monotonous hausfrau dialogue. Basically I feel the show sucks hard at everything it does in-between the big action scenes and Walton Goggins.

Absofuckinlutely. I honestly think they do it for the soy redditors to go “OHH LE JESSE PINKMAN IS VOICING THIS GUY…!”. It doesn’t matter that they’re good actors, their repertoire can’t compete with that of your average voice actor.
You can just hear the voice and tell that the fact that you can’t see their actual facial expressions detracts from it, cause the audio sounds so bland (:_(

With all the money they spend on the cameos they could’ve made the animation way better lol

It's pretty cool how all these super woke Hollywood assholes who are VERY concerned with human rights and such get paid millions to half-assedly prattle into a mic while the actual show is animated by literal North Korean slave labour.

The reveal that there are only less than 100 viltrumites makes the agency and worldbuilding in the show feel like a big waste of time. The pressing threat of an entire race of supermen now feels like it could be an afterthought. What a waste.

Since they decided to make Darkblood usefull and are giving him an arc I wonder if they'll change the Dinosaurus arc to be better. Because they can't do worse.

well we havent gotten to HIM yet, and things will change around the season 7 or 8 mark when we get to it, but thats a few years away

By this argument, doesn't this mean that the writers of the show front as tough guys but are secretly sad about how isolated they feel from their colleagues? To say every written character is a mirror image of its writer seems ridiculous, especially when it's probably just a filler moment they added to give the character more flavor to fill a gap in the run time.
Scenes like this fulfill a number of ideological goals for coastal elites. It hopes to mollify their own comeuppance if they are caught doing wrong; stigmatizes normal flaws to demonize real people who have them, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy where the revolution's heroes have an enemy to unite against; and facilitates power grabbing by insisting bad people are just from bad environments, indicting the majority group with the blame of creating said environments while offering their own authority as the solution. These types love pretending artists can only reflect their culture, which results in "all art is political! depiction equals endorsement!" hogwash as ironic projection of their own susceptibility to societal influence.

>workout montage
>"heh, he's holding back!...."
>never really had that SSJ moment where he truly unleashed
The surprise factor to gore and death is gone and now the combat is just subpar and dull. As impactful as goku punching someone so hard it bulges out their back but seemingly doesn't cripple them on the spot

Conquest WOULD be kinda cool if his voice actor even remotely fucking fit him, but even so, he just feels like a rehash/mixture of the Anissa and Nolan fight. It's the exact same "Hey, join Viltrum or we'll fuck you up," "nah" then Mark gets fucked up for a bit until they fuck off or in Conquest' case, plays with his food for so long Mark manages to actually beat him.
Mark fighting Nolan changed the relationship between the characters, advanced the plot, revealed new information, and otherwise resulted in consequences that would never be the same. It was a personal conflict that further developed the characters involved.

Mark vs Conquest is just a couple of strangers punching each other. Mark is beaten up and taunted by a viltrumite for the fourth or fifth time. Some cities get destroyed and a bunch of innocent people are killed, but that already happened in the last episode. Eve dies, but she gets better. Mark realizes that he should just kill particularly dangerous enemies, but he probably should've figured that out in the last episode. And despite that, Conquest lives, for no real reason, so the lingering threat he represented isn't resolved. The overall upshot is that nothing changed. The only reason you know this is supposed to be any big deal is because Cecil says that Conquest's power level is jillion skillion.

I just realized that Cecil sparing Conquest was sorta foreshadowed by the alternate universe Mark that was imprisoned in a similar way. So I guess they were trying to set that up as the sort of thing Cecil might do.

It's very convenient how Nolan never has to address the people of Earth, or the innumerable other planets he slaughtered over thousands of years. Almost like Kirkman knows his Steven Universe-tier hogwash would collapse upon facing the fact that some crimes can never be repaired. Levy, Sinclair, Mohawk Mark, Anissa, Lucan, etc. can all burn in Hell idgaf how sowwy they are.
It's convenient for Kirkman I guess, but a huge wasted opportunity for the story. I was memed into reading the comics after season 1 by people who said that nothing had happened yet and the story was just getting started. I assumed that the fallout of Nolan's crimes would be a big part of that and there were even bigger twists to come. But actually, it has almost no impact on the plot at all, and the comic goes on to be "what if Rob Liefeld wrote Dragon Ball Z", which is where the show is now.

Note that Nolan was put on that prison ship a season and a half ago, 50% of the total run so far.

Even the VAs like Peter Cullen were mostly cast so that you can recognize them as that guy from that thing. Ross Marquand has extensive VA credits and is possibly the best part of the cast imo, but he did happen to be on Walking Dead.

You should hire Broadway hacks instead.

Hello Hazbin Hotel!

Each time I think of Invincible I think of DBZ; of course Viltrumites are inspired by Saiyans, no brainer -but then I proceed to have this retarded thought process where I compare the beginning of DBZ and the Conquest arc:
-Conquest is Raditz
-Mark is Goku
-Oliver is Gohan
-Eve is Picollo (:_(
Conquest shows up having to do the job another Saiyan Viltrumite was supposed to do. Mark defends Earf. Oliver gets in the way and gets in danger (but manages to distract Conquest for a bit). Eve gets her arm blown off gets mangled to shit but regenerates. Mark happened to distract Conquest when Eve recharged and proceeded to blast him.
I think that's it, and there's really no comparison, but I keep seeing these parallels and it makes me a bit annoyed so I thought Id share

Can we talk about how weird Bulletproof is?

So this nigger straight up just has all the powers of viltrumites and yet is never relevant in any meaningful way. He gets a shocking amount of time dedicated to him in the comics and is explicitly stated to be as strong as Mark and as fast as Red Rush. So you'd think he'd be able to solo a Mark variant so weak that Rex could kill him but nah he loses every major fight because he's not Invincible.

Except he fucking is Invincible. He's got a creepy fetish for wanting to skinwalk Mark. When Mark fucks off for a while he starts wearing the Invincible suit and calling himself Invincible and it's never really addressed beyond Mark showing up later like "yeah man I don't really care anymore you can be invincible if you want" and that's that.

AND THEN THERE'S A WHOLE SIDEPLOT WHERE HE MURDERS HIS PARENTS?!? NEVER ELABORATED ON, NEVER BROUGHT UP OR MENTIONED AGAIN, NEVER EVER RELEVANT TO THE STORY HE JUST DOES THAT

Turns out he's got a thing for identity theft because the twin brother his parents loved more died years ago and he started pretending to be him so that they would love him too and when they find out they start yelling at him and THIS happens

Massive spoilers in there, but that first panel with the frying pan is possibly the best moment in the whole comic imo.
