Cartoon Industry thread - Showcasing the Spergery of the Animation Industry

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
There's also another upcoming show that's trying to do the 2000's animation style, but really fails called "I Wanna Eat Your Guts"
It's so unbelievably unfunny...
I kept seeing this shit on my feed, and none of the videos explained what the hell it was. Unfortunate how the MTV art style is squandered on troony toon bait.

These characters started as yaoi ship art of Jotaro and Kakyoin from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and the creator doesn't hide that, so make of that what you will.

I’m glad the original show ended on a good note
The end of We baby bears is very open to interpretation, in the sense of the narrator asking "The bears had adventures, what about yours?" type of thing, and I'm also not a fan of the "Everyone's dancing" type of ending

Creator is a fujoshi pooner. Jotaro oc is a pooner. Kakyoin oc is a gender special pooner.
CLAMP did the Jotaro/Kakyoin OCs better.

For me, personally, I feel the more concerning inevitability is when the staff and their show inevitably receive criticism from outside their bubble, they'll try to reflect all of it with the usual "B-but art & animation takes a lot of time and effort, and we're just a small independent animation studio™ with no corporate backing. No one else will take us! Please support us by buying merch and subscribe to our Patreon, we're begging you!" shtick.

This is the same mentality that killed Rooster Teeth. They kept getting deals with big studios and got to hire expensive voice actors, but they were still convinced they were the same small independent studio that they started out as.
You can tell from one scene where her human skin is shown through her disguise, so from that alone I can discern it's one of those "Human tries to fit into a society of individuals completely different from them in order to not get caught." sort of stories but... that's my thought. Would like to hear what y'all think of this.
What I like about Mel is the mystery surrounding her status as a human. It makes you wonder if her black blood is only unique to her because she's the chosen one or if all humans are like her.
"I Wanna Eat Your Guts"
Golden Corral's new slogan!

I've seen these ugly characters constantly on Instagram thanks to the creator spamming them on shit, the art style and overall "plot" is a very obvious and lazy copy of Daria and I'm sick and tired of these new "artists" copying the things they supposedly grew up with while only adding their retarded obsessions/fetishes into it.

That's what you get when Society ™️ doesn't shame people and encourages these same "people" to """freely express themselves""".

That's the biggest criticism I have of people who try to add in these sort of aesthetics to their work. It's less of appreciating it and more just modernizing it and encasing it with lefty-approved stuff like additives. We're at this point where a game's quality is immediately proven "good" if they slap in recognizable "old/vintage-core" junk.

They only see the aesthetics of it and that's that. Once again, a lot of these people glorify Y2K and the older internet but they would not handle how it was standards wise, and those standards were far looser compared to the internet nowadays.

The animated trailer for Izzzyzzz's super quirky slice of life pilot's out. Can't discern why but it feels so godawfully similar to a couple of other pilots, or well, animations generally. What is it trying to emulate? The old 2000s animations? Old YouTube animations? A certain style? I can't discern. Knowing how popular this creator is, I'm not surprised if Wastelandia will gain a huge following like with Kiana Khansmith's pilot. I can smell the $50 Makeship plushies in production already.

There's also an official description of the show, "Wastelandia is a slice of life comedy series which follows neurotic dropout Zoe, ambitious art student Alice, and terminally online retail worker Moth as they navigate their early twenties and all the weirdness that comes with becoming an adult."

Huh, a terminally online retail worker character... where have I seen such a character before...

Either way it's mega gay.

I have been sucker punched by 2005 with this video. Do these people not matured passed [edgy 14]?

They don't really know how things went back then. And to add - don't know how to succeffuly execute aesthetic aspects of their respective mediums in accordance with the era they're imitating.

Off the top of my head is this drawing style they use, in this case Ari - I can see she's trying to ape Gorillaz shorts and some other shows in conjuction, but the designs are too simple - a lot of old shows in the style that is being emulated have caricaturistic aspects which made them stand out. Meanwhile Ari's characters have oversimplified faces and no expressive body structure. I myself like more life-like art, but come on, this isn't what she's going for. I've attached an image of what Ari probably wants, but will likely never achieve in character design.

The 2000's were also an era after puritanism in American mass-media, so people were trying to be more "daring". This was succeful\unsuccessful depending on the execution, but things became more edgy both in some official IP's and independent media. People like Ari have circled back to puritanism, unlike the people before them - for the sake of liberal values, which creates a cognitive dissonance, because their values both advocate for dissention to mainstream and following strict guidelines on [INSERT SOMETHING OFFENSIVE] - what I wanted to say in this section is that ideological limitations will hinder any creative writing.

Also a bit off-topic about Y2gay - autists of the tumblr lot like to use aesthetic elements from that era, but butcher them completely or use them with the same tackiness which made them fall out of fashion: Sparkles, unreadable fonts (Image attached) and overuse of flashy graphic effects. Not that I'm against reusing any aesthetic direction from the 2000's, it's just that these people don't have the skill to do it adequately, and then the entire idea gets a bad name because of them (Visit r\frutigeraero or any "aesthetic" subreddit, or page from Tumblr and look for user-created content, you'll get what I mean).
