Hello! I have been watching RLM since 2015 and I too can't get through a single of their recent videos. The issue I have, is that every video has Mike pontificating for 20 minutes about "the death of the movie theater" instead of reviewing movies and when he gets to reviewing a movie, his opinion is usually "yes it's good I liked it" or "I didn't care for it".
For example, in the last episode,
Mikey 17 review: it turns out that Jay had not watched the movie (a recurring theme) and Mike simply "liked it" (and enjoyed the little CGI monsters in it). He glossed over the 40 minutes long Trump impression by Mark Ruffalo (which torpedoed the movie) saying "I can see how it may age poorly or some people might not see it as I see it" - no shit Sherlock. And that's the whole review. We're so far away from the quality of the Old Half In The Bag episodes. Even back then, their reviews were never detailed or intellectual but at least they had genuine discussions about the films.
They went to see the
Minecraft movie in theater and left after the first act... how can they pretend to make content if they don't commit to watching the full movie. Even if you are going to make fun of the movie, at least watch it entirely so that you can come up with jokes or something interesting to say ABOUT the movie.
Snow White: they couldn't bring themselves to discuss the fact that it's super woke because they are themselves super woke so instead they discussed the budget for 20 minutes (doubt they have seen the movie anyway).
Nosferatu: I was put off by Mike complaining for 15 minutes about some filthy peasant eating pop corn in HIS theater. I eventually returned to the review (I had some house cleaning to do) and the 15 minutes popcorn rant was followed by 20 more minutes of "death of the movie theater" followed by a short and superficial discussion of the movie. I got nothing from it.
They seem more interested in discussing
- "The Death Of The Movie Theater", a theme so brilliant only the great Mike Stoklasa could come up with it
- Whatever black entertainment movie Mike saw and loved because Black people are amazing.
I also noted that in the last episode they decided to show videos of people trashing theaters and they were very careful to only show videos of whitey trashing the theater and not blackey. I also noted that prior to that, when they last complained about bad behaviors in movie theater (I think the Nosferatu review), there were a number of comments implying that this was done by blacks. I'm going to make a wild guess and say they probably saw these comments and wanted to make a point.
Despicable whites everywhere, look at these horrible "chuds".
Then there is the complaint about China shrinking John Boyega. Who the fuck cares. Their review of that movie sucked and it was ten years ago. I swear they turned into the most "down on your knees loving dat black dick" liberals you could imagine.
Enjoy your zero percent CCP credit score, loser
I get the feeling that Mike thinks he is too good for this show and that really he should be lecturing on "the death of the movie theater" at Columbia University (to black students obviously, whites are trash).
More topical episodes like the recent Star Trek review with Rich can still be good but it's a hit or miss depending on what they decide to discuss and who is discussing the movie.
It's very strange to me that they are still getting 1M view on most of their recent videos but maybe it is turning into just the kind of content that Youtube loves. It's easy to watch, it's uncontroversial, it's peak pajeet media.
And then there is the multiplication of stuff like this. This feels like Mike deriding his own creation and forcing the others to play along. That kind of thing started with the black tapes, but at least that was funny. Now it feels like Mike is shitting out a new concept every week just to taunt the others
And in parallel to this you get more and more of no-jokes raw reviews like this, but they don't understand that they are not smart enough to make these reviews and despite their best efforts, the conversation never takes off, no matter how deep Mike is diving into his coffee cup.
Anyway, that's my rant. Sorry for the long post but the last episode pissed me off.
