Nick's current probation is five years. The Judge was warning him that if he had fucked up any sooner, he might have fallen before the amendment of the statute - and therefore might have suffered 20 years probation. The Judge even mentions that he's not entirely sure that amendment applies when considering stays, and that is an implied warning. If Nick gives him a reason, the Judge can make the appellate court find out.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Nicholas Robert Rekieta. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical Denny's most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Nick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Ayn Rand Literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Nicholas Rekieta truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Nick's existential catchphrase "Scandinavian incel nerd prudes," which itself is a cryptic reference to the unkwnon esotericist's Flammarion Engravings. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Nicholas Rekieta's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens.
