@The President of Nintendo is the Switch 2 like all gacha now? i dont follow video game shit

Yes and no on the gacha shit. On the Switch 2 there isn't any gacha bullshit HOWEVER they do have gacha bullshit in their mobile games.

Fire Emblem Heroes, for instance, is a literal mobile gacha game. They had another gacha game (as publisher) called Dragalia Lost on mobile, but it has since shut down. Mario Kart Tour had gacha elements but I believe they were replaced in a later update.

Pokemon Go has paid 1 time use items.

Thier most recent mobile game, Pokémon TCGP (Trading Card Game Pocket) has both a subscription service AND and gacha elements (you open packs of randomized pokemon cards which you can, of course, buy with real money).

The Switch 2 is excessively monetized in a different way. They are raising the base cost of their first party titles - Mario Kart World, for example, will be $80. They are charging for the Switch 2 tech demo. They are charging to upgrade Switch 1 games to their Switch 2 equivalent. The peripherals are all extremely expensive. Charging for online play. Paywalling access to retro titles behind the online service. This is on top of a console that costs $450.

what is the gaymer answer to why a video game shouldn't cost more than $60 when Super Mario Bros 3 in 1990 was $50 and Pokemon Blue in 1996 was $30? especially for a nintendo game like Zelda BotW with no mtx, why not let them charge $90?

Because Zelda BoTW released years ago for $60 dollars. Now they’re re-releasing it with the ability to maybe sometimes hit 60 fps at 4K for $70 dollars as the switch 2 edition. Literally just a change in a configuration file.

If they came out with a new Zelda Game maybe it would be more palatable but as of right now most of the switch 2 launch lineup are overpriced re-releases.

Credit where credit is due at least they’re offering a $10 upgrade pack to owners of the switch 1 versions. But this kind of garbage used to come out at a reduced price (with all DLC included, you need to pay almost 90 dollars for the complete breath of the wild switch 2 edition!) with a free update for pre existing owners just a couple years ago.

I've always pointed to this video as a good deep dive into the arguments.

It depends on the game, the dev, the reach, and resources. Plenty of Indy teams that consider 100k sales a SMASH HIT sell for 20 or 30$ tops. And Nintendo and crap DOES sell, like unless they UTTERLY shit the bed, Mario and Zelda just prints money. They know this.

So it's really expected sales x expected price - dev cost and decent profit margin, but I think a lot of companies charge more PURELY to see if someone pays more for it. Sure maybe some huge games might need that cost, but surely some games are over priced.

Oblivion remake being a good example, a ton of texture boosts, and updated graphics/tweaks but still BASICALLY the same game. You cannot tell me they "need" it to be 50$ to recoup costs on that, especially with how much it sold, they just think they can fleece people for basically slapping fresh textures and latest filters / graphics in a 20 year old game. 30$, or even 35, 40 might make sense, but we know damn well Bethesda wasn't down to the wire financially making it.

we already know they made an insane profit, we know the cost of business is front loaded where it costs millions initially but THEN rakes in even more , and we know that typically they make far, far more money back than needed. So charging less has no risk of shutting Nintendo down, they just refuse because they think they can do 60 or 70. Even more so when lower price means more sales to an extent, and games with digital distribution have basically 0 sales cost.

TLDR looking it as purely inflation is stupid, it's video games which have IMMENSE profit margins if done right, not a fucking burger joint with a 30% margin for the BEST spot. and if a company knows it can get a 1000% profit margin, YES, they damn well could charge 30% less and be just FINE, but they don't.

I'm not even really mad that they do, but companies could totally sell for the less without financial hardship

Easy, because $50 in 1990 purchased a game in its completed form. Breath of the Wild is $70 for the BASE GAME. Tack on $20 for the DLC which, by the way, you have to buy in order to unlock the full power of the Master Sword. Oh, and if you want to unlock Link's iconic horse, Epona, that'll be another $15 for the Link Amiibo.

Complete price $105 for the game in its complete form. The game is 8 years old.

With Mario Kart World, Nintendo wants to raise that BASE PRICE to $80. Being an industry leader, every other platform/publisher will want to follow their lead.

Imagine a publisher like Ubisoft. $80 base game, $50 season pass, additional costs for cosmetics. A game in its complete form can cost you well over $100 with literally no upper level cap if you include MTX.

It's a death by 1000 cuts situation. Jim Jimmy Jim Jam James "Stephanie" Ster-dust Sterling had the right idea about this back when he was a sexually deviant MAN instead of a sexually deviant MAN in a dress.

It's a shitty thing to do, because videogames are making more than ever. Videogames make more than the music industry and movie industry COMBINED. As you've mentioned yourself, the single most profitable media release of all time is a video game (GTA5).

At the end of the day, Nintendo can do whatever it wants, and people can spend their money however they want - I'm sure $80 Mario Kart is going to sell like fucking HOTCAKES, nigger-cattle gonna nig and all that, but it's the obsession with "monetization" and "player engagement" and all that bullshit corpro-speak faggotry that has sucked all the joy out of videogames.

Videogames should be fun, gay hobby for nerds.

Edit - Oh yeah I forgot to add piracy is a moral obligation. Do your part, download and emulate. Don't be a faggot.

Double edit - Also, @Null you once played "Mindful Solutionism" by Aesop Rock on MATI. Here is another good song about the dangers of digital escapism featuring Aesop Rock which you may enjoy and is appropriate considering the topic at hand:

Triple edit - At the end of the day it doesn't matter how much Nintendo games cost because your wife's boyfriend is just going to buy it for you anyways.

The whole #droptheprice thing is a gay little crusade by gamers that think they can pressure a company into changing prices by spamming youtube and twitch comments. The price increase between Switch 1 games and Switch 2 games has less inflation than just about anything else in that 7-8 years period. You would have to be a gamer neet living off bennies and/or parents to not see the inflation everywhere else. Nintendo games were also already overpriced compared to most as they kept their value and didn't give deep discounts to try and get a few more sales after a few months/years. Anyone mad about the increase should have been playing 5-10 year old discounted games on Steam or pirating not buying the latest bing bing wahoo on release.

In defense of that one woman who took issue with Jersh 'enabling manchildren' because he failed to seethe at anime when presented with an opportunity via the 4chan hatsune miku shit. She does have a point in that his recent tune in regards to vt uber shit and animes really is a drastic shift from his past content when mentioning it. It was only about 2 or 3 years ago when he narrowly skirted the edge of going full Dr Pizza. And to someone who doesn't watch the show every week, this shift might be a bit of a shock.

I don't have any lolcow drama but I've been watching a lot of BattleBots and i really like this Blip fella he's fun to watch. He just throws bots up in the air. I thought you may find it amusing

bot battles got boring the moment flipper and spinners became the meta.
everything else sucks and only way for the "other" to win is for the meta bots to somehow break themselves

my allergies have been killing me today and i'm trying not to take pseudofed unless it's a day i have to meet people or stream.

Any requests for the stream? It didn't feel like a lot happened this week.
Join the PWRMY. He's a hot young (35yo) dude, wrestling and Burger King fan, former DSP dent, dunked on the gunt on stream, hasn't had a piece of ass since 2013.

He's a genuinely entertaining new cow and there are lots of funny clips about him on his thread
