I think a lot of these Johnny-come-lately joiners to the culture war haven't figured out these e-celebs are just people, every bit as fallible as everyone else, so the idea that they can have some failing seems alien to them. And because they've put so much emotional investment into having someone that speaks and advocates (and profits on) for views they share, it's like they've enshrined them as a parental figure, which makes defending them even more sad.

It's like how the left enjoys calling MAGAs "cultists" for having unwavering support for Donald Trump. The difference however, is that Trump is a very unique individual almost from birth: born into luxury, inherited a family business, successfully built on that business for decades, made himself out to be a media friendly (sometimes by his own doing, sometimes not) personality for his adult life, stayed out of the political arena until he was pushing 70, then became the second non-consecutive two-term president in history despite so many in the media and government having it out for him. And that's why despite his own moral failings he has so many supporters, on top of the fact that he's done genuinely great things on behalf of so many other people, both in and outside of the oval office.

That's not something you can say about these grifters who's only notable quality is parroting beliefs back at other people, and as such when faced with scandalous behavior they fall like a deck of cards. If you make yourself notable for doing something that barely qualifies as "work", the easier it is for you to fall.
