Wasnt he 15 when he started 4chan? I think he was just a teen that wanted to host a website on which anything goes. I dont think at that point in time he thought that would attract actual CP posters, or that he would have to appear in court to explain 4chan lingo, or that he would deal with a bunch of celebrity lawyers angry at him for hosting a fappening hotspot.

Can someone tell me who the family of Christopher Poole is? I can't find anything. It might shed light on why he was basically invulnerable to the law during his tenure. And he passed the torch to the original guy who also suspiciously came out of nowhere and is legally immune with the same unlimited bandwidth with virtually no ads imageboard

I just want to log this because I don't recall seeing anything about it come up after the site went down.
In the last several months on 4chan, I experienced something a few times, which I had never experienced in many years of posting. I would be banned for certain posts, usually a violation of the Racism rule. But these posts would be made and tied to my IP when I was not at home, or was asleep. On 2 of the 3 noted occasions, they were posts I had made weeks prior, repeated word for word and then following with an issued ban. The odd 1 out, was a thread started on /tv/ just posting a black actress with an inflammatory remark.
I made none of these particular posts, and they were made on my IP which only I have access to. I also have experienced replies to various posts on 4chan in this timeframe, which I believe were made by unidentified moderators/janitors indicating they were watching me.
It all sounds very schizophrenic but I had never witnessed an "injected" post on my own IP that was also banworthy. It makes me uneasy because I suspect anything could be posted and tied to my IP if those posts were. Apologies for blogposting but knowing how much information the 4chan staff has access to with regards to the userbase just made me do a big thunk about it all.

I feel like some Moot was just some Manhattan jew kid and both these guys were only figureheads.

I might be wrong, but I feel like the environment that Moot comes from doesn't produce the kind of guy he is and what 4chan was supposed to be on the surface.

Thats nothing, I got banned on /co/ for saying I dont like Miles Morales and that hes a blatant PR push from Marvel/Disney. Another time I got banned for saying the jeet who got Apu cancelled was a snake-in-the-grass. But these were just on /co/ itself. Ironically I’ve seen people blatantly admit they post porn and only get “warnings” or it just gets deleted and they can still post without issue.

Hiro's situation is obviously very weird. He lives in Paris and doesn't seem to have any legal troubles due to 4chan. All that while the Telegram founder was jailed in France for hosting a service with a lot less extremist content than 4chan.

Had something similar. Got a 3day ban, then while checking it I noticed I suddenly had a second, permanent ban for rule 1 dated half a year earlier. I wasn't even in the country, let alone at home, when that got filed. Spooked the shit out of me. Then a day later it was gone. It wouldn't surprise me their backend is so shit bans end up being shown to different IPs.

Why not. He was a teenager posting on SA, then wanted to make an anime focussed site based off of a japanese imageboard for him and his goon pals to screw around on. All the early mods were his friends. The garbage he had to shovel was a problem, but I think he was idealistic enough to enjoy the free form anonymous posting 4chan generated. Hell, I mailed him one time in 2011 about some stupid ban and he took the time to read the mail and respond to me, not even an automated response or some template. The CP was a problem but I think he managed to get some kind of understanding with the feds. He would hand them over all the data he had on them every time they posted, and in return he wouldn't get reamed.

Moot might not have been perfect, but I think his heart was in the right place. He stuck with the website for years, even as it drifted away from being a fun imageboard to anonymously discuss anime on, and instead became some shithole that started a tirefire disaster every other month.
