Let's Sperg Marathon 2025 - Bungie's new AAAA Extraction shooter

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
They sent more invites again (nothing for me yet), and this is the result:

They've got to be panicking, there's no way this is what they intended. I can believe them wanting to limit player numbers in the closed alpha to a few thousand (5000-6000 ish). 1500 peak after 2 additional waves of invites? For a Bungie game, I'd say this is actually worse than Concord, who no one knew or gave a shit about.
At this rate the game will be aborted before it comes out, much like Sega's Hyenas or Amazon's Crucible.

The only thing wrong with the aesthetic is the colour palette they've decided to run with. The "maximum-minimalist" style has been done well in the past with the likes of Wipeout and Mirrors Edge, but whoever came up with the colour choices for this needs a paddling. There is only so much visual novelty people can mentally put up with before it becomes an insult to your retinas and is actually stress inducing.

Everything is wrong with the game though. I gave it an hour and that was all that I needed. The TTK against the AI is ridiculous, not having a solo queue is beyond retarded and the pacing of the game is all over the place, ie no sense of urgency interspersed with getting bodied in seconds (it has that original Destiny walking simulator feel too). This might have passed 6-8 years ago, but not in today's market. There are other games out there that have had enough time to hone the basics over the years with player input. Bungie has seemingly ignored the competition completely and created something that is destined to fail straight out of the gate. What a waste of a good IP.

there's only two ancient choices, either go with tarkov or with hunt showdown.
Marauders was decent, is almost dead.
The cycle frontier died a year ago.
Same with COD DMZ.
There are others, but they didnt get any players from launch.
We are left with Marathon and ARC Raiders, both need access keys to play.

EDIT:
There is Delta Force which is chink slop and not very good.
Hunt Showdown could be regarded as an autistic fixation of mine; one of my first posts on the farms was about the game and I can't recommend it enough if you like pre-1915 guns and drawn out fights. Some of the recent updates were rather shit (botched the UI) but they're fixing things.

Marauders I got in early but didn't invest a whole lot of time in, but I was primarily drawn in my its look. The aesthetic separated it from Hunt and Tarkov, but the overall potential was ruined by dev incompetence and so it eventually died. Marathon is bright colours + sci-fi, which is a tired and generic aesthetic at this point, and is even the art style of their competitor basically:

Arc is also F2P, which is one of the big contributing factors to Delta Force having the numbers it does since it acts as a F2P version of Tarkov basically.

I have played it, it is pretty good.

From the in game gameplay, it seems more like the art style is focused on immersive realistic sci-fi,
compared to the cartoony cyberpunk Marathon is going for. It might change for Marathon.
Both are ok.
Arc is also F2P

According to their description they put on the teaser above, it is going to be 40 USD on launch.
The currently available tech test is free if you get selected or get recommended from a friend.

Agree on everything else.

If they had any sense, that's what they'd do. Rework the whole thing as a single-player game with PVP modes like old-school Halo. Just take advantage of the aesthetic and lore, build a game around it. Make the concept of expendable shells part of the story, since something fucked up was happening on the colony.

But they've dug themselves into a hole they can't climb out from. Neither Bungie nor Sony will back out from this, they've sunk too much into it. Hubris and toxic positivity have blinded them to what was obvious to everyone else, and now that they're getting a dose of reality, they can't back out.

This is a hell of their own making. They could've tried something, at least give out more codes to try and drum up some numbers, since even with early negative signs there were plenty of people willing to try it. But no, they remained paralysed, seemingly unable to make a single significant decision. The alpha is almost over, and they let it slowly decline. With it, the rot has set in and public perception has gone from undecided to generally negative, except for the last holdouts of faggitors and cultists huffing copium like it's galaxy gas.

With Destiny dead as far as growth is concerned, and even major issues getting old players back, Bungie is in serious trouble. I think this time they're actually fucked. They've run out of exit strategies, it's do or die. I know it's still unlikely, but the way this whole alpha played out makes the rumors of the board and higher ups jumping ship as soon as they get the chance a lot more believable in my eyes.

You obviously don't know what "objectively" means but I can tell something or someone has upset you so okay bud.
I can objectively say that people with bad tastes deserve to be mocked, yes. Feel free to play the game for all of 3 months that it will be active if you want, I'm not stopping you.
The only one I am aware of is the Horizon MMO Sony is for some reason still going ahead with even after Herman Hulst got shitcanned. That was rumoured for a 2025 release but given how little we've heard 2026 seems more likely, assuming it doesn't get shuttered after Marathon flops and Sony has a full-scale meltdown.
You would think they would give up after the Lego game flopped. If that's not a sign your IP is done, I don't know what is.

I got into the game but im traveling for the next 2 weeks and wont be able to play LOL

My brother in christ, that's what old school Marathon was lol. The PVP modes in Marathon were lots of fun. Had old school Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Kill the Man With the Ball, etc

Yeah but it's clearly attempting to evoke the same style. Just because they failed doesn't mean you can't compare and contrast.
You must be blind and stupid if you think nu-Marathon is anything like Mirror's Edge. I guess tasteless nigger cattle with no art sense or culture will just point to the most generic sci-fi slop on the planet, clap their hands and compare it to things infinitely better than them, no matter how they actually compare since they have no point of reference.
Mirror's Edge has many flaws, but at least the art and world designers had two working neurons firing off in their brains when they were crafting the game, that includes some sort of cohesion between the two. Nu-Marathon on the other hand didn't, it is literal troonslop and minimalist at that, not that there is anything wrong with a minimalist art style but in this case it's minimalist because the studio is lazy and has no talent.
Oh, and original Marathon artstyle is still miles better than anything shown off from the slopboot so far, but not like I expect anyone who plays this game to even know anything about the original trilogy at this point.
This is puke:
This is like Roblox version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare lmfao
I can't believe anyone is even batting for this piece of shit

„GUYS! This is a red car. It brings you from point A to B. It’s basically the same!“

I'm burnt out of realistic milsim shooters in general. I'm just looking for a more sci-fi/cyberpunk setting or aesthetic
like The Cycle was and now Marathon.
I'd like to see someone else take a AAA stab at the Doom style of FPS. I know the boomer shooter renaissance has a lot of demon-based stuff, but I can't think of a single other FPS that has you fighting the legions of Hell.

I guess there was Metal: Hellsinger, but that game didn't really let you have fun unless you turned off the rhythm mechanic.
Do you actually read what people say before you reply to them?
No, they don't. This faggot constantly shits up threads and starts essayposting at anyone who doesn't align 100% with whatever autistic shit they're sperging about. I suggest putting them on the ignore list so their posts stop appearing, I promise you'll be happier for it.

"Look, it's clearly trying to evoke the same style, okay? "
"Also, your post made my ass hurt. I don't like how you made it at all, so even if you were right, you're wrong and I will call you a meanie fuckhead. Checkmate, chuddies!!"
The fact we're having this idiotic debate to begin with shows how DOA this piece of shit is.

I know, that's why I wrote that lol. NuMarathon is the definition of clawing defeat from the jaws of victory.

lol, and I'm sitting here without a code. I won't get it now, apparently yesterday was the last wave. But I got one for Arc Raiders this morning, so I'm going to fire that up.

This would be a really effective post if it actually refuted what I said.
"Look, it's clearly trying to evoke the same style, okay? "
It is, it's just terrible at it because the people on the art team are retard cargo cultists. You're just pissed off that I keep insulting you so you're trying to reclaim your e-testicles by trying to score some kind of irrelevant dub over me.
"Also, your post made my ass hurt. I don't like how you made it at all, so even if you were right, you're wrong and I will call you a meanie fuckhead. Checkmate, chuddies!!"
Your post was constructed upon a completely idiotic premise and I had no reason to dignify it with anything other than mockery. Yeah, Marathon 2025's art style sucks, the game sucks, it's DOA. I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that the Marathon team were inspired by other things but don't have the werewithal to properly emulate it because they're a bunch of troons. I don't know why you keep kvetching about people defending it when the consensus is "yeah it kind of looks like shit". Maybe because you're a low-IQ gorilla to whom subtlety is an undiscovered country.
And as to your rabid idiocy making my "ass hurt". Yeah, you make everyone who agrees with you (me) look bad. Naturally I'm going to treat you like the unwanted canker that you are.
The fact we're having this idiotic debate to begin with shows how much of an idiot I am for turning it into a debate.
Yep.

Pat from Castle Super Beast (podcast with the remnants of Two Best Friends Play) talked about his experience with the Marathon alpha on the latest episode, I thought it might be interesting for some of you to hear his thoughts.
Some fun quotes from what I've watched so far:
"Marathon's alpha is the roughest version of a game I have ever seen sent out for this type of promotion."
"A huge proportion of the game's visual presentation is missing. The external areas are one step above greybox."
"The gameplay stuff they showed off? As of right now the game doesn't look like that either."
"The game looking visually a certain way is not important. That's not the main thing. The main thing is that this does not look and feel like it is going to come out in 6 months."
What I found even more interesting was him talking right at the start about how incompetent Bungie were at even getting codes out to people. It really gives the impression that there's only a skeleton crew working on the project and none of them know what they're doing.
