VATICAN CITY, May 8 (Reuters) - USA Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected the new pope and leader of the Roman Catholic Church on Thursday and has taken the name Pope Leo XIV a senior cardinal announced to crowds in St. Peter's Square.

from what I heard francis wasn't as liberal on some things as the media plays up. I was more disappointed how he was a diplomatic lightweight who let the CCP walk all over him and rushed to agree with Trudeau that the Church massacred natives and buried them in mass graves than some of his philosophical stances. This guy although he seems to have some concerning opinions also seems to have at least some okay stances and maybe he'll be more diplomatically savvy so perhaps he may be better. At the very least it could have been worse?
