he can afford it now, he may not be able to afford it later. the future lawyers will have their work cut out for them in the same manner this lolsuit did.

Any of them are free to crib off of the work that Hardin did in this case. It's a lot easier to argue against Greer getting IFP if another lawyer has already laid out Plaintiff Russel Greer Plaintiff Russel Greer's own filings discussing wanting to buy brothels for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Most lawyers (and their clients) don't have the time or money to oppose a lolcow on their IFP status, but I think the Stebbins case shows the importance of doing so and the value you get from it by turning the lawsuit into cow v. court system and not having to deal with their inane shit yourself for a while.

Greer isn't as much of an active-aggressive asshole as Acerthorn is, but cows have a knack for making themselves dislikable to anyone they deal with and getting the judge to realize that they're dealing with a pro se retard and their bullshit lawsuit early on in the process may help lead them to issuing a ruling that could nip it all in the bud. Greer probably is broke enough to qualify for IFP, but he's prideful enough not to want to admit to being poor as shit. Making him prove to the court he's a broke piece of shit is at least embarrassing to him and if it comes down to Greer having to decide whether he wants to pay the filing fee for his lolsuit or get him his penis sucked, I think it saves someone five years and docket longer than it has any reason to be.

most, if not all payday loans don't report to the big 3. They might do credit checks but i don't have experience with ones that do. most of the time its a few paystubs. you can even be a state certified schitzo and get a loan.
They don't really care about anything other than do you actually have the ability to repay. Some of the scummier ones actually get a postdated check.

So the main reason they don't get paid is when their almost as scummy customers deliberately defraud them and write a rubber check or otherwise deliberately fail to pay them, and they're very experienced at collecting on those (plus the penalties and other problems).

I would imagine Vegas is a particularly default-prone area to run one of these businesses because you will have some dipshit get a payday loan and immediately lose it on slots or whatever.

You'd almost be better off indebted to a literal loan shark on the street.
I hope Russell doesn't pay and the judge not only dismisses the case, he awards sanctions to Null.
I hope he pays and his plightsuit gets dismissed anyway then he gets sanctioned even more.
Technically, violation of a copyright is a crime against the United States itself, and Congress has reserved the right for feds to bust down your door and put you in prison over it.
Not all infringements are criminal and the vast majority are not. Criminal infringement requires a much heavier criminal state of mind (mens rea of willfulness) that civil infringement does not, whereas even an entirely innocent infringement can give rise to civil liability.

So for instance if you make a bumper sticker of Calvin pissing on something this is not likely to be criminal, but if you have an entire warehouse of them and are trafficking in counterfeit goods, you can expect a visit from the feds at some point (which is why much of this sort of thing is made in China or some other shithole country).

Russ already wasted 2 days in not paying IFP fees. It is still currently unpaid. Why is he stalling?
That's a lot of dicks to suck in just 2 days, especially when your mouth doesn't work properly. Be reasonable.
If Russ fails to pay the fee, then the case is dismissed with actual malice and @Useful_Mistake has to pay Null's attorney costs.
I feel like U_M would be willing to shoulder this burden if it meant not having to answer the same questions any more.

I’m sure that Russell views having to pay the filing fee as some kind of penalty for him personally for exercising his rights, instead of as a mandatory donation to the Court and its services and expenses (e.g. pro se law library) for having the privilege of using its resources to seek redress of grievances. Back when he was ordered to pay Skordas’s fees for the Grande plightsuit, he sperged about it being a personal punishment from a bias judge for having the bravery to ask AG to make it right for discriminating him, instead of an order from the judge to make it right to Skordas for specifically wasting his time, valued at $1500 for the services he provided.

His claim that he has “photographs of Null violating my copyrights” (when this is an contrib claim, not a direct claim) also brings me back to the AG matter, where he claimed he had photographs of AG discriminating him. Which turned out to be a photo of the back of a bald security guy’s head, turned into “see, she discriminated me!” by Russ’s schizo dots-connecting. I’m sure Russ views Null’s publication in Take That Off The Goddamn Internet of the DMCA response as a “photograph” of “infringement” through the same logic, even though what Null said was “link me to the actual posts, you sped.”

I think more specifically they want you to have the ability to pay the outrageous interest. In many ways their idea of a perfect customer is one who stays in debt forever by just paying the interest and getting a new loan or resetting it. It is incredibly retarded not to pay off a loan like that as soon as you possibly can, but a surprising number of people fall into the temptation of keeping the cycle going over and over again.

Many such cases, especially when addiction is involved, Vegas of course being a hot spot.

Greer probably is broke enough to qualify for IFP
i highly doubt that. any deep dive into his finances would most likely reveal that he wastes a lot, maybe even a majority of his money on useless bullshit. im intentionally not using the word hookers but i do mean hookers among other things. when he says he can afford the fee he is 100% saying the truth.

It technically is somewhat complicated. Some states consider recreational activities as necessary part of life, and they don't factor that amount (completely) into the IFP consideration. Other states consider that if you have money for recreational activities, then you should pay the filing fee. Utah, interestingly enough is the former. I don't know how much of recreational costs you can write off, but you can some amount.

All of which is a bit pointless since Russ conceded he isn't poor and has agreed to pay the filing fee.

Disagree in:re 'other things'. I think he saves the vast majority of his money specifically for his hooker fund. We know how exceptionally cheap he is, especially when it comes to food, clothes, and his living environment.

He will occasionally post about going to a restaurant (and complain about how expensive it was) or a coffee drink (always sugary) but I get the feeling that's not a regular thing for him.

Even before he lost his car and his apartment he was a cheap fucker. Excess money goes to his fuck quests.

Yeah, we'll see what the real (not "Magistrate") judge has to say about that.
About what? Russ already agreed that he doesn't qualify for IFP. I'm not aware of a single case where a District Judge purposely overruled such an assertion and forced an IFP status on a person, much less a case where that happened sua sponte.

You underestimate Russ's ability to get exceptionally lucky in situations like this one.

That was in a hearing. Let's wait until the filing that says it was a miscommunication is submitted and ruled on.

His claim that he has “photographs of Null violating my copyrights” (when this is an contrib claim, not a direct claim)

We should keep in mind that in the Amended Complaint, which Hardin agreed to (pending further motion practice), these are the charges:
I. Contributory copyright infringement against Null;
II. Contributory copyright infringement against Lolcow LLC;
III. Direct copyright infringement against moseph.jartelli;
IV. State law civil conspiracy against russtard; and
V. State law civil conspiracy against moseph.jartelli.

In Greer's mind, no doubt the names attached to the particular accusations don't matter.

When Russ said "Yes" to "Can you afford to pay the $400?" I don't think he failed to connect the dots or zoned out, I think even Russell realized that if he lied to the judge's face when asked point blank, he'd be in some deep shit
Perhaps. But he did neatly avoid Hardin's implied threat to investigate his LLC. Maybe he figures paying the $402 fee is worth it to avoid scrutiny into his finances.

I wonder if Russ has been making certain proposals and pitches through his LLC that might be very sketchy on examination. We've all been laughing at his claims to have investors and "interested parties" backing his offers to buy brothels. But maybe some of those wandered into actual legal fraud, if he's been making offers while having an empty bank account. Even if it's not technically fraud, the last thing he'd want is an official court ruling declaring his LLC to be a dead broke farce, something those creepy harassers could send to potential buyers.

Ah, the days of kids being sued for torrenting movies over Napster and Limeline. Filthy criminal kids had it coming.
It's limewire. Limeline is probably something nicer and less virus laden.

He already tried this and failed. Gilman owns all of the brothel property in Winemucca. What on earth is he doing?

Based on his comments about speaking to the council/mayor etc and how they're afraid of change my guess is he's once again trying to convince them to zone more areas for hooking despite being previously told in no uncertain terms that they're not interested.
