You can sustain a severe amount of brain damage but stay "alive" if your brain stem is relatively unharmed. It's the most basal part of your brain, and runs your heart and lungs and circulation. That's where the term "brain dead" comes from. The grey, wet gooey stuff up top is gone, and with it your life and soul... but the tough bundle of nerves in base of what's left of your skull keeps your empty corpse breathing because it didn't get the memo.

This is the point where the ghouls start asking your spouse or parents if they can butcher you alive for spare parts.

I know a girl who wears a rubber band on her wrist which is a sign that he organs are up for grabs if she dies. It's a bit odd.

That seems a bit more legally vague than just getting "Organ Donor" on your driver's license.

Edit: presuming we're talking USA here of course.

Not in the US. I think she may have signed some papers to make it legal. She has a law degree so I'd imagine she wouldn't settle on just a rubber band.

Something similar happened to one of my cats over a decade ago, his skull was run over but he didn’t die on the spot. Eventually though he just couldn’t recover and had to be put down. It must be a terrible way to die. I feel sad even talking about it, miss you little buddy.

Georgios Smaragdis, aka synthwave musician Starcadian, was killed on May 1st while riding his E-bike to the recording studio in New York. He was doored by a parked van then the rear wheel of a box truck ran over his head after he was flung into traffic. Despite all that, he managed to live for about 30 minutes until pronounced dead at the hospital. 44 years old.

Bikes: not even once.

All the article said was he was crushed by the truck but not where. It most likely ran over his torso and the resulting crush injuries took a bit to end him.
First sentence of the third paragraph from said article:

The artist sustained severe head trauma and was ultimately pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
But here's another legitimate source to confirm the head injuries:

NY Daily News

It's such an outrageously traumatic Final Destination way to die. Not a big fan of bicyclists in the road, but yeah, the Mercedes driver sounded like he had absolutely no clue.

The helmet info I got came from other personal blogs so it is unconfirmed from a main news source but I would have to think that only a motorcycle helmet could have effectively prevented the head from being completely crushed. I hope the small amount of time he had to make his peace was all he needed. RIP.

He had a lot of talent in my view. Sounds like he was in the middle of mixing his new album, hope they can release some of it.
