Hello there.
My name is John Card.
I'm twenty-five years old. I currently work full-time, albeit for less than the national median wage, as a historical researcher remotely, having completed my master's degree in history remotely last year. I live alone in rural New South Wales, Australia, in a once-abandoned, two room, farmer's hut I restored to modest habitability myself, by hand.
In any given month. my only typical expenses are necessities: food, utilities, electricity and water rates, and the occasional home repair. I never spend on any 'luxury' items. I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't gamble, paid my own way through all my tertiary education with intermittent seasonal work as I studied, and have no outstanding debts.
In my time not working, I enjoy reading widely, playing music on guitar and keyboard, sewing, drawing, papier-mache modelling, hiking, cultivating native wildflowers, writing, woodworking, tinkering with electronics, and
making YouTube videos informed by my almost decade-old interest in non-hierarchical community organising and activism.
However, despite my employment and my frugal lifestyle, the cost of living and ever-worsening economic conditions generally mean that I, like many working people, am struggling to meaningfully put aside enough money to get ahead in life.
The cost of any property for a prospective first home-buyer has literally almost doubled every year the past decade in this country and vastly outstrips what any single-income person can catch up to by saving. Inflation and the cost of living rises significantly quicker than wage increases do, to the point where even the most financially responsible working person can't keep up with the market.
I am humbly requesting the financial charity of others to help facilitate me moving to a more suitable residence in a less remote part of the country, where I could find more gainful employment with my skills and qualifications. To this end, I would be immensely grateful for any donation made that I could count towards this goal.
I know there has been something of a rise recently in the amount of people who have been using platforms like GoFundMe and similar to raise funds to improve their current living situations. Some individuals and fundraising campaigns on sites like these have attracted a degree of controversy given their own successes, whether warranted or not.
But I would like to raise my hand to seek assistance now, and ask "Am I any less of a 'deserving' individual?"
Thank you for your interest, and have a lovely day.
