I sure wish I had a hobby I could argue for public expenditure on. You're right it just so happens it's serendipity that their hobby happens to be vaguely arguable as some sort of public infrastructure. Though it is a cope that they're doing this for the average blue collar Joe.

You wanna see how quickly cycling enthusiasts change when they actually get what they wanted and the bike lane is clogged up with the elderly, people hauling stuff, children, etc. And they can't race around like they originally thought.

You touched on a lot of my problems with bikefags. The insistence that everyone else's world must grind to a halt to please their aesthetic sense. The complete and utter blindness to the consequences of the sweeping changes they want coupled with the massive Dunning-Kruger arrogance about how they've thought of everything and if something doesn't work it's only because True Bikefagging has never been tried.

And yes, if they got their way and everyone had to ride around on a self-propelled ass dildo like they wanted they'd be mad at the filthy casuals doing it wrong because they liked bikes before they were cool.

I feel like the hypocrisy of road damage and bike lane usage is on full display, but you definitely hit it with the "aesthetic sense". When I'm on the road, I don't care about the demographics of others. Sure, I care about the demographics of my city/state/country, but as long as you, as another person in a vehicle, aren't doing something like running a red light, braking at inopportune moments, or otherwise a problem, I see you as I would anyone else (bumper stickers usually exacerbate issues).

With cyclists, they definitely have elitism in who can use the bike lane. They don't want to be seen near a bum on a Walmart bike, or some other miscreant they pretend to be cool with but secretly hate, and they definitely don't like the bicycle equivalent of an 18-wheeler. I'm surprised they aren't demanding second lanes to pass and forgetting that they'll be asking for "just one more lane" unironically.

There is pretty much no argument they can make to actually argue why they don't belong in the bike lane other than vague feelings. Amazon is allowed to use public infrastructure just as much as anyone else is. This is basically the equivalent of saying I can't drive my Ferrari as fast as I want because those stupid semis are in the way. They are a nuisance to them, but nothing more. They are not able to objectively justify what exactly why they shouldn't be allowed because they have no reasonable argument against them.

Because you're trying to see the ground ahead of the hood and it lets your Sideview mirrors show you things that are tighter to the car and lower down. All in all not the worst habit ever for tight spaces at low speed but it's still a bad habit and it shows a lack of spacial awareness and can indicate badly adjusted mirrors, ESPECIALLY with a trailer.

I hope they ban the Amazon and UPS cargo bikes. They've already made it all but impossible to run a non-food/alcohol-based business in Manhattan, but the bugmen didn't notice because they buy everything online now. It'll be hilarious when they have to take an hour long $100 Uber to Queens or Jersey to go shopping because there are no stores nearby and no one delivers anymore.

Browsing this subforum I was so glad to see a thread precisely on Not Just Bikes. I had the misfortune of running across that channel several years ago and initially thinking it was just going over alternative design and interesting ideas. It only took 1 and a half videos or so before I got a distinct marxist authoritarian vibe from these weirdos. They weren't interested in sharing ideas their goal is to force you to live only in the way they think you should.
