This is what AI had to tell me about propane and Saudi Arabia:

So, Mike Judge did his homework. I was not aware how important propane/LPG are and will be to Saudi Arabia.

Yeah, I dunno about propane specifically, just that I have friends and family who are in various trades who have hopped overseas to make stacks. Granted, I thought Hank was 'just' a salesman (albeit a passionate one), but the idea of a conservative dude going overseas isn't farfetched to me.
The premise of the show says he did it because he needed the money for his retirement. Which is understandable. Also, the chance of expanding propane overseas as a sort of "America representative" feels like something he would do not for the money alone.

Just because someone's patriotic and conservative doesn't mean they can't have ambitions or wouldn't take chances that they need to take.

"I had the privilege of teaching them about America and propane"

Hank of Arabia

Let's be honest, they are only sending the Hills away to avoid having to address Hank voting. It is an easy cop-out given that will be the biggest question going into this reboot. My only question is why those choose Saudi Arabia over Japan?
Because it's still a comedy show and comedy is based on absurd situations.

Hank in Japan or Mexico wouldn't feel so out of place as in Arabia. Hank Hill being Hank Hill in Arabia is a show that I'd watch if done properly.

Imagine this, but it's Hank.

(ETA: and Peggy)

Arlen is in central Texas, supposedly around the Killeen/Temple/Waco area.
I seem to recall at least one episode where they go to Mexico and it's treated as a day trip.

American citizens abroad can still vote and Hank has been consistently shown to take his civic duties very seriously. The easiest way to avoid the whole "did Hank Hill vote for Trump" thing IMO is just to have him refuse to talk about it because he finds arguing politics distasteful.

For whatever reason there's never been as much baggage about the other characters' political leanings. Dale and Khan would definitely be a huge Trump guys.

From Temple to Laredo (border city) is about a 4.5 hour drive.

Mike Judge says Arlen was in part inspired by Garland, TX (near Dallas) and several of the landmarks are named after places in Austin. Having lived there it’s always felt very central Texas to me.

I want to believe Dale would be concerned about Trump's ties to predestination time travel loops or otherwise schizoed away from the normal political processes

I saw the new trailer and was wondering if there was a thread and of course that made me feel like a retard. Of course there would be a thread here.

I hope it'll be easily torrented because I refuse to pay for any streaming crap.

I will say, extremely appropriate for Bobby to be a chef, he was the creative weird kid and food is something he can actually connect with his dad through and there were many episodes where he was very involved in cooking and it made him happy and let him express himself while forming a bond with someone.
I think Mike Judge missed a trick here.

Instead of a straight up KotH reboot, a spin-off series with Bobby in his late 20s might fare better. For one thing, it wouldn't upset the canon so much as it could be set around 15 years since KotH ended instead of only 8.

Joseph and Connie would return, along with two brand new characters. I'm thinking another dude in the friend group, and a wife or fiancee for Bobby.

The tricky part would be the archetypes of each character, especially Mrs. Bobby Hill. I like the idea of Bobby's SO being a really sweet and wholesome woman who Hank quite likes but for whom Peggy has an irrational hatred.

Speaking of, most of the original KotH cast would be peripheral characters. Purely as a result of how much the world has changed since KotH ended, Hank could be portrayed as a Cotton-like figure i.e. a fuddy-duddy, only the relationship between Hank and Bobby would be way better than the one Hank shared with Cotton.

Peggy would be a miserable cunt. An interesting plot twist could be that Bobby-Peggy relationship could be like Hank-Cotton, only in Peggy's case the abuse was psychological rather than physical.

The new Boomhauer would be pretty much the same one that is in the new KotH.

Dale would be divorced, with Nancy and Redcorn referenced but never shown. The marital split would leave Dale in a similar state to Bill, only he'd be deep in the QAnon rabbit hole instead of in deep depression like Bill.

Speaking of Bill, he'd have to be killed off in the first season, but it'd be just the funeral and the wake in that episode. Cause of death could be something that can be turned into a message about the shitty treatment of veterans. Not necessarily suicide, but something where Bill might still be alive if he had access to better health care.

If it was a complete shitshow, it wouldn't trample directly on the KotH legacy. It'd be Velma to Scooby-Doo. It could just as easily be very good, depending on how much creative control Mike Judge has.

I'll take my puzzle pieces now.
