Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

SUCH A BRAVE STANCE YOU TOOK, JIM. YOUR TORCH LIGHTS THE WA- oh, what's this?
Google YouTube AI Scraping.webp
Jim’s videos are so boring that they might as well be ai-written. If he put out a video that was entirely made by ChatGPT but slightly edited to disguise the various calling cards of ai writing nobody would notice.

This is just me being a petty bitch but I found it funny. I noticed RedLetterMedia had uploaded a new video unboxing some random movie props. In less than 24 hours it's garnered more than double the views of Jim's latest video posted on Monday.
RLM New Video.webpJim New Video.webp
Obviously it's a chalk and cheese comparison, but I still find it funny a RLM shitpost video still mogs Jim's flagship series. (The prop video is fun btw, I recommend giving it a watch.)

Though it's unfortunate that his brand has since become so obscure, in part due to TotalBiscuit's unwillingness to accept his fate and pass on the torch to Genna. If he ever truly realized he was screwed, it was far too late to do anything.

Reading from about page 94 you can follow some of the commentary of his final moments as this was when it was revealed the cancer metastasized to his spine and he was still holding out hope for a miracle clinical trial. Or alternatively from this post where it was announced his chemo had stopped working.
M8 this shit is still up on their channels and you still got everything wrong. You have sources for any of this?
TB did want Genna to take over and she was handling their podcast with Jesse and Dodger for a few months before it dropped off.
He had accepted his fate, that's why he was having Genna participate in the podcasts at the end. She almost never showed up in his main channel content before that.
And how TF do you think he knew it was the end if he didn't know the cancer had metastasized? He was the one that announced it had spread.
While simultaneously selling out with "Not sponsored" WTF...is?" episodes shilling mainstream, AAA games like Mass Effect Andromeda, Wolfenstein II: The New Collossus, Titanfall 2, Halo Wars, Hearthstone, Starcraft 2, and Civilization 6.
I don't like those gaymes either but that doesn't mean someone who didn't spill their spaghetti over them were paid shills. And who would even pay for a sponsored WTF is; its 20 mins of options menus and 30 mins of rambling.
And, in what is possibly his lolcow swan song, he pissed off his wife so much by refusing to let her continue the channel...

That she drained his bank accounts, moved to South Korea, "lost a hundred pounds" (Allegedly had the weight loss and cosmetic surgeries South Korea is famous for), and started marketing herself as an "Hot Gamer-Girl Streamer". All while he was still dying in his hospital bed and sperging about Trump Supporters on Twitter. He sure knew how to choose 'em
Nigger just look at their channels. She tried continuing the podcast and tried to shift all the content to her own channel.
She didn't move to SK till some months after he died.
Yeah I'm sure he was seething in his coffin when he saw the message that his widow was the sole user of their bank account.
And she didn't try to become a thot either. She was literally a late 2000s youtube woman in a camwhore's world after she struck it out on her own. If you have something to prove all the bullshit you've said, plz link it.
(smash glass in case of totalbiscuit defenders)
This site is full of people who say worse things more casually. Do you have a moralboner against them as well?
He was a TDS fuck with a huge ego tripping on pain meds; I wouldn't be surprised if he had outbursts. I don't think that wouldn't be abnormal for "normal" couples in 2016 or 2025 either. People don't live 100% happy-pilled up. And the only thing more streets-level than airing your partner's quarrels online is clutching pearls over what was aired.

TL;DR: links or STFU, alternatively; he was just an egotistical internet-man, calm down.

Back OT: so how's ole Jimbo? Has he finally saved the world from capitalism and trans genocide?

Every critic thinks they can be a better writer than the writers and almost every critic who tries ends up failing. I can probably count the notable exceptions on one hand and still have a couple of fingers left over.

Yea he's got a lot of experience, shitty flavour text that no one read is one of the most prestigious forms of experience. I hope he does it honestly, mostly just because it will be the most interesting thing he's done in years. Even if it's fucking laughably shit it will still be better than the lifeless monotony of his youtube channel.
All he has to do is write better than Lindsay Ellis and he will have done better than 99% of the "content creators" who had the same idea.

Twomad beat TB in the "most gamer death possible" category.
TB died off cancer with a keyboard and a mouse in his hands, transfixed on an Unreal Engine options menu.
Twomad died from a Ketamine OD, drooling face down into his keyboard while in queue for an Overwatch match.
The second one is just funnier and at the same time more of a sobering whiplash to me personally.

>Jim's book deal
Meh. All these "internet comedians" end up proving themselves to be pretty ass at actual comedic writing. Making a global audience of children, manchildren and ESLs giggle at poop jokes doesn't take a comedy genius. Yahtzee wrote a bunch of vaguely Prattchett-inspired books and made several narrative-heavy games in his youth, does anybody know those? Nope, people remember him for being the hahalolrandom shitter-on-popular-games. Everyone remembers his kindergraten playground terms like "spunkgargleweewee" and his seething hate for comptetitive multiplayer, but nobody has read Jam.
And Jimbo is a nepo-creature still, despite the fact that he's been an indie garme jurnalizdt for a decade. As a leftie genderblob, he still enjoys blind kneejerk veneration and support from entire swaths of people on the Internet. Of course he managed to get himself a book deal, doesn't mean shit by itself. I'll believe he has a book in him when the book in question is out and can be judged on its own merit.

I read Jam and it was shockingly bad. I've read a couple other Internet personality books and Yahtzee's was the only one I had to really force myself to finish.

It was so excruciatingly drawn out and, ironically given his real job, riddled with predictable tropes and characters who were just annoying because they kept doing stupid shit. At times I felt like I was reading the novelization of a Borderlands game.

TotalBiscuit's retirement post from the 1st of May 2018. Some excerpts, emphasis mine
What about Co-optional? Well that's sticking around. The show must go on after all. We will be moving forward with our proposal to shorten the show to 2 hours per episode however. This is for health reasons but also because lately I've felt like 3 hours drags on too much
Showing he has no intention to disengage from the podcast. Still tried to make arrangements to attend as late as May 8

As for weeks in which I simply cannot do the show (which hopefully wont happen but you can never be sure), Genna is going to be trained in production and will take on a host role, with the usual guests.
Shows Genna's role was only ever intended as a last minute fill in and the use of "going" says that up until this point, Genna hadn't received any real handover for TB's position.
Genna will be filling in for Dodger while she takes maternity leave anyway so, get used to hearing her voice.
Dodger announced her pregnancy on the 20th of January 2018 and from the footage it looks like she's 3, or at most 4 months pregnant. Her due date would therefore have been sometime around June at the absolute earliest (more likely July-August). It really shows how unrealistic TB was about his time remaining that he expected Genna would be filling in for Dodger and not himself.
I'll be doing gameplay streams and Youtube videos with Genna.
None materialized as he only embarked on his semi-retirement 3 weeks before dying.
When I leave this world I want to leave something my family can use to help them earn. Not only would I be ok with Genna taking over my channels and assets once I'm gone, I'd be delighted if she did. I've been encouraging her for years to create more content for Youtube, hopefully as we make a bunch of fun videos together over the next however-long, that confidence will grow.
Absolutely delusional about the amount of time he has left. He has a thin veneer of acceptance, but it's obvious he doesn't truly believe it given he's making plans that suggest he has many months or perhaps even years ahead.
I fully expect The Co-optional Podcast to go on and I love the thought that once I'm gone, the channels will go on in my absence, hosted by the person who knows me best and has been with me for the better part of my adult life.
I can't help but feel some type of way reading this given the state of his channel and the podcast now.

TB's channel is fucking dead, Genna is now some pathetic anime avatar vtuber thot, and the co-optional podcast is as dead as TB. Remnants of his brand barely lasted a year after his passing, given their last podcast was October 2019. It's directly a result of the attitude you see in that reddit post.

When I talked about TB's legacy I was trying to be nice, sugar coating things a little given the sad circumstances of his passing. But the reality is his legacy only lives on through fading memories of those who once enjoyed his content. The only silver lining is that the grave dancing weirdos are even more obscure and those fuckers are still alive.

If you want to see someone handle their inevitable death like a real man and pass on the torch in a way that ensures their legacy, see Paul Harrell.
And how TF do you think he knew it was the end if he didn't know the cancer had metastasized?
He knew in 2015 that his cancer had metastasized to his liver and his cancer was incurable https://web.archive.org/web/20240730152413/https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1snlj3r
Well, I don't know if there is really a right way to tell people this, so I guess here goes. The CT did not come back negative. The cancer in the bowel is gone, but spots have appeared in my liver. They're not operable and there's no cure. Average life expectancy is 2-3 years, though there are outliers that live much longer. I'll be back on chemo in a few weeks, with the goal of pushing it back and keeping it there for as long as possible. I fully intend to be the outlier, the average is this way because most people that get this are old and not strong anymore. Who knows what they'll come up with in the next decade? I intend to beat it for as long as possible. Gonna need some time to process all of this. I don't really feel anything right now. Thanks.
He passed away 2.6 years after making this post. TotalBiscuit viewed himself as someone special who would defy the odds and he kept up that delusion until the end. Here's how he reacted when an oncologist suggested stopping treatment about a month before he passed.

The reason I pointed people to the spinal cancer metastasis page is that's when I observed the thread shifting towards TB posting as basically everyone (except TB) could see the end was neigh. Given your loose grasp of the facts surrounding TB's diagnosis, you should consider reading the thread yourself.
calm down.
Take your own advice. Your post reads like you were foaming at the mouth with rage while typing it.

:agree:
The beginning was okay and it's the only reason I persisted until the end. I was really hoping the ending would redeem the story, but my recollection of it was that it had an absolutely ridiculous plot twist that was terrible.

Mogworld is a master piece by comparison.

I'm guessing it'll be a collection of articles or essays he's written for his site. If it's something else, he probably won't finish it out of laziness, or he'll have ghost writers come in and do it for him.

Clarke was born in April that year, so maybe further along (She was always a tiny thing, maybe Dodger just didn't show her pregnancy as much). Just looked at TB's channel and she was off for a week, but then came back for the memorial stream. So he was almost right, but then if you look at the previous videos Genna was never on, so she never got the chance to get a real feel for the show, despite being the 'producer' for six years.

This is what I was on about in your post, which TBF, contained much less fiction than the other two guys' posts. The fact that it had spread wasn't some tragic discovery made at the last moment; it was well known since 2015 as you point out in your recent post. I don't recall any mention of spinal cancer either, only that it spread to his liver and that that's what he died of. Could you link where he said it spread to his spine?
Absolutely delusional about the amount of time he has left. He has a thin veneer of acceptance, but it's obvious he doesn't truly believe it given he's making plans that suggest he has many months or perhaps even years ahead.
So basically you're mad that he didn't have hindsight to see that he'd be dead soon? He'd beat the odds for over a year and you're blaming him for thinking he could keep fighting? I'm guessing he didn't have experience dying cancer before to know how long he'd have. His doctor told him, yes, but his doctor also told him he'd be dead earlier and TB knew most people who died earlier were much older than he was.
Shows Genna's role was only ever intended as a last minute fill in and the use of "going" says that up until this point, Genna hadn't received any real handover for TB's position.
This I'll acknowledge because I'd had it made up in my mind that Genna was on the podcast with him for months earlier to learn the ropes. I still do think that she was practicing for the eventual handover for a few months off-camera but I don't have any proof for it.
TB's channel is fucking dead, Genna is now some pathetic anime avatar vtuber thot,
This I didn't know. She did make an earnest effort to continue Cooptional after he died. The last episode was uploaded to her channel on 12-Oct-2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTfM_xK7j3Y She's still tame by vtuber standards though, I wouldn't call her a thot, but I don't care enough to dig into it.

I don’t remember much about TB as I’ve not thought about him in years and this is the only place I see him mentioned.

Is there a chance he might have done the “why I left the left” thing as the Democrats got crazier or would he have went full he/they?

Absolutely.

On the other hand, TB was also a vocal asshole with a high opinion of himself and a habit of doubling down, so had he beaten cancer he would very likely ended up getting canceled for saying the wrong thing about the wrong tranny-developed indie game and then failing to apologize enough afterwards. Whether that would result in him taking a dip towards the center/right like Joe Rogan, or just isolating himself in his own corner of the Left like Destiny, that's anyone's guess.

In reality, both are real possibilities. In fact, I could see him going full pronoun prosecution, and eventually "leaving the left" in 202X if he lived.

I could see him doing both, being pro-GG since there was a reasonable pro-ethics stance at the start and then switching sides and becoming a reformed chud when the culture war started to become a thing.

Since we've started talking about Totalbiscuit for some reason, here's what Zooc (guy who did a lot of the stuff behind the scenes for Totalbiscuit) had to say about Totalbiscuit as a person. FWIW it isn't the standard "he was a flawless angel that did nothing wrong" but he also wasn't Super-Hitler tl;dr he was a person with good and bad qualities.

TB wasn't completely awful but ends up looking much better simply due to his thread being joined at the hip with Sterling's. Mr. John Bain was a loudmouth with an ego the size of a planet, but as misguided as some of his ideas were at least he was trying to do some good in the industry. Jimbo, on the other hand, has given up any pretense of principles for the sake of feeding the coom.
