"we're just sending some military advisors to Saigon, only a retard would think this would mean we're invading and going to war. You guys lack critical thinking, no one's calling for invasion, just some bombing runs over Hanoi and this will be over by 1962"
fuck this post is so good I need to reply to it twice
Linebacker 1 and
2 were MAXIMUM effort bombing runs over Hanoi using B-52s to carpet bomb city blocks, this is not an exaggeration
Anyway without getting into the whole if we could have won argument, look at this
This is so poignant to me in light of the recent "Ukrainian" attack on russias heavy bomber fleet of TU-95s
Quick summary is Ukraine says they destroyed 40+ heavy bombers, reality seems closer to 10 if that and the clip I include as well as MANY people and other outlets are making alot of hay about the fact that russia has closed the factory's for those heavy bombers years ago and so such losses cant be replaced.
The last B-52 rolled off the assembly line in 1962
We only have about 75 left

Taking all our OWN numbers we lost over 20% of the main arm of our strategic bomber fleet to kill non military targets, those planes lost over Hanoi, shot by 5'2 malnourished conscript with a wire guided, soviet era missile, were never rebuilt.
IDK what my main point of all this is, I just wish when we did dumb shit like that it was to take Canada or something useful like what Russia is doing for itself in Ukraine, their loses are still in the context of a bigger gain.
quick side note to all tech kiwis in the thread, not sure where ill get another chance to ask this so ill do it here. In light of the use of fiber optic and one way drones in Ukraine vs Russian due to the 2+ years of active jamming now, how on earth do we think they got footage of the airplane attack "Back" to hq. 1 or 3 options.
1. Self contained camera and hard drive, Fly there, shoot video, fly back to base INTACT on one battery. Extremely unlikely bordering on impossible
2. Wireless communication with CnC node, somehow bypassing Russian jamming and beyond that sending comms through contested lines of control unless you have a CnC node behind enemy lines, but that would raise even more questions. Extremely unlikely bordering on impossible
3. Fiber optic cable from launch point to strike point, this is puzzling as their stated narrative says they placed these drones in crates that were placed behind Russian lines over a year ago, Fiber Optic drones were VERY new then and beyond THAT fiber optic drones dont work in a swarm, they are single strike units.
All this leads to me conclude the videos are almost certainly state created "deepfakes" or more accurately some form of their stated version of the strike DID happen but the video was a work of fiction to make a propaganda representation of what they would imagine/like it to look like.
