It's really weird we're supposed to root for these guys when the writers keep telling us they're retarded and will actively let the bad guys set up to fucking kill them. Since they did that three separate times at least just off the top of my head, with Han's death, willingly ignoring the Corellian Incident, and the whole they knew the clones were a sith plot. Then they use the same tactics as their enemies, such as burning assets, brainwashing people, and apparently shitting on worlds like Naboo.
The thing is, this might work; I mean Gundam usually has both sides be filled with assholes. But the problem is, the one side they want us to like looks totally mundane and bends over backwards for political dickheads, whereas the other side that they want us to hate looks powerful, acts powerful, has all the nice tools, has all the cool Force powers, they have the numbers game, and they either play the political dickheads like a fiddle, (Dooku, Palpatine) or tell the political dickheads to shove it up their ass. (Vader, Maul, Grievous)
The spirit of the Acolyte is still upon Disney SW. In the end of the day, they can't help but love that Dark Side Dick.
Once you go black, you never go back.
Then they also discriminate against aliens, as shown with Hera, and don't understand the concept of a security force. Even that pacifistic moron George Lucas made sure Naboo had a police force that could throw pirates offworld if they weren't too big. Hell, even Satine understood having that. They didn't have an army, but their policing forces were supposed to play a role similar to that of Costa Rica, where if pressed by hostiles they can fulfil that role.
At this point, with all the aliens who are on the Empire's side (the Trandoshans helped the Empire in the new canon just as they did in the old, and the Pantorans openly celebrated the Empire) is it truly right to say that the Empire was racist against aliens? Hell, there's probably more aliens on the side of the "racist" Empire, and the worst we saw them do was walk up to a planet of fellow humans, humans from the bourgeoisie class, and gun them down so they can jackhammer the planet for Death Star parts.
Sure, maybe you can point to the Geonosians as a race the Empire utterly buttfucked, but the Jedi had no problems barbecuing them with flamethrowers, so it's not like the other side was nice to them, either. And that other race of aliens (the Aeos) that the First Order bombed from space in Resistance were bombarded for their support of pro-Resistance elements, not because they were aliens.
And as for the Mon Calamari, in the new canon, a Jedi drives a wedge between them and the Empire, forcing them to fight each other, since he saw a vision of the Empire fighting Mon Cala ships in the future. So he endeavored to make that vision a reality. So it wasn't even the Empire's fault, either; it was that one Jedi who was to blame. Even Darth Vader was horrified when he realized that the Jedi played both the Empire and the Mon Calamari against each other, and the latter got what he wanted, at the cost of billions of lives.
