I’ve known home schoolers in blue states, and the perception that the government has it out for you is really strong among those I’ve spoken to. Nick has said many times that Aaron tried to destroy his family and since everything Nick says has a double meaning it got me thinking. I'm undoubtedly much too soft on Aaron (inb4 not in the same way Nick was), but when they were all coping about moving in together and "combining the family", he was probably the only one who was "serious" about it. The real plan was always for the other 3 to be the real polycule and have Aaron be the one taking of the KEEDZ and actual responsibilities while the other 3 fucked all day.

Aaron just wasn't privy to that and thought he was doing his part in becoming "one family". However, when you parents are Nick and Kayla, the little he did probably meant a lot to the kids. Wrapping back to my point at the start, my theory is one of the many reason Nick screeches about Aaron trying to "destroy his family" is because he believes Aaron turned them against him. I'd put money down that Kayla, one of the kids, or a combination of them have told Nick they wish he was more like Aaron or that Aaron was their dad.

TLDR: I think one of the reasons Nick hates Aaron is because he knows Kayla/the kids wish Aaron was the children's father and has said as such.

I don’t think they planned on Aaron looking after the kids. The kids weren’t even a consideration in their selfish minds. How is that Elissa's fault? This dude is dangerously crazy, and I'll say it now: Even if Nick somehow hasn't physically abused his family yet, he definitely needs to start taking domestic abuse classes immediately; they can teach him the life skills he's desperately missing. I've never been in a violent relationship myself, but I've known some men who were and through them have become familiar with the materials they teach in those classes and it's 100% what he needs to be forced to learn.

A big part of what they teach is accountability. There's a lot more to taking accountability and being held accountable than paying empty lip service or laying all the blame on yourself like some sort of martyr like Nick's been doing. It boils down to the sincere acceptance and belief that, regardless of what everyone else in the situation has said or done, you are the only one in control when you finally make that decision to abuse others. From there, you take action to make amends and prevent further abuse. No amount of stress or pressure should ever take away that accountability.

Perhaps, instead of reveling in someone's misfortunes, he could have thought "huh, this would be a very mean-spirited and abusive thing to do! When people do this to me, it makes me feel horrible, and I don't want to be accountable for making others feel horrible like this! Even if I believe deep down this is what I should do, I recognize that it'll lead to negative outcomes for myself and others, and that's not acceptable! Let's intervene in the abuse I'm planning and instead journal about the nasty bundle of emotions this is making me feel while behaving with poise and grace in public about this matter!" Then when your uncle suddenly passes the next day, people will have genuine compassion and remorse instead of smugly telling you that it's what you deserve.

It'd honestly be a fascinating listen to have a domestic abuse counselor analyze all the ways in which Nick embodies the demeanor of an abuser.
