Helldivers 2 - Hell is more diverse than ever as PlayStation's demographics continue to grow and change.

Anyone else use railgun support weapon and finding it sometimes won’t reload/fire/do anything? It seems like in that state it also causes my primary and secondary weapons to not reload/fire/do anything.

I’ve tried dropping it and picking it back up with no luck. I’ve only found stimming works to reset it. It sucks because I have to waste several stims per round and it usually happens as I’m beset by enemies.

Any thoughts on how to prevent this bug or recover railgun control?

Probably unrelated to your case, but there are all sorts of weird, similar bugs with the Anti Tank Emplacement as well in the new patch, like not being able to shoot after getting out of it, or your bullets firing out directly to the center of the screen and not where your crosshair is pointed. Or sometimes just getting stuck in it and only being able to dismount by destroying the emplacement. Have you tried dialing a stratagem when your railgun stops shooting? That at solves the bug after getting out of an ATE at least.

Now that you mention it, I have had issues with weapons after hitting tab to focus on the map, almost as though the focus never switches back even though the map is closed. This gets especially wacky with emplacements, I somehow ended up firing my support laser while in the FRV's machine gun turret the other day, with completely broken animations.

I've found that choosing another support weapon is the only way to avoid this bug 100%.
Haven’t had issues with other support weapons so this is sound advice. However railgun takes out everything on the bot front (even factory striders can be neutered with 4 full charge shots to the top cannon and one each for the chin turrets). It’s hard to take a better replacement.

I’ll give that a try, maybe the railgun just needs a context switch to reset…

Speaking of eruptor/laser cannon, I'm a big fan of using that with the hover pack so you can support your team with vision and sniping on the bug front. To mitigate the lack of close quarters combat ability with the eruptor I take the polar patriots medium pen pistol but the laser med pen pistol is fine too. I used to take incindeary contact grenades with this build but I have killed myself twice now by throwing that grenade below me while hovering and then burning to death so I think I am going to switch to stun grenades

I assumed they were inspired by the tactical support from World in Conflict.
Dunno, in mercenaries you had to throw gps designators, smoke, satellite direct or laser designate for you to place an order for any of the 20-30 airstrikes.
What was cool was there were also anti air jet runs, and anti tank jet runs. You could also order in weapon crates and vehicles.
Anti air placements and jammers would prevent use of certain airstrikes.

give us a laser cannon FRV you cowards, let us choose the weapons on the emancipators you cowards, give us a rearm/repair for vehicles you cowards
hmmm, a mech with quasar and laser cannon make me tingle....
I rarely use mechs because of how fast you run out of ammo, and dear god if you get hit in the arm and lose 50% of your ammo.

I would take the risk of a Laser based mech if it meant that if you rode the heat too much the damn thing would blow up MechWarrior style (with no ejection).

I'm thinking of getting back into the game, I only played a little at launch, so i'm basically a newfag. What should I aim for to not be totally useless?

get democratic detonation warbond, gives you objectively the most utility of any warbond. first and foremost focus on figuring out how to complete missions while dying as few times as possible, that is the best way imo to get better at the game. artillery strategems are not as useful on the bugfront excluding napalm, but napalm cannot close bugholes so dont drop it on nests. gas is extremely powerful right now, it causes enemies to go into a beserk state and drop aggro on you more or less. the incendiary landmines are guranteed teamkills on any front, dont reccommend them. mobility is your most powerful tool. do not be afraid to run away from a fight, you are there to do objectives not win every firefight. if a teammate dies on the other side of the map near another teammate, dont call him in wait for the other guy to do it. take five seconds to think about where you are placing a sentry before you place it, the goal being to not kill your teammates with it.
.
dont bother with the illuminate unless you like dying to leviathans which are extremely tanky aerial aimbots that can kill you in 1-2 hits that has an aoe ragdoll and that respawns faster than you can kill it.

Be observant of your stratagems and their safe ranges, try different guns on different enemies. Use good positioning and angles against bots and kite kite kite against bugs. (Don't play Illuminate they're fucking unplayable garbage right now because of one single enemy.) and poke around the game's wiki to learn the weak spots of certain enemies. When in doubt, every enemy has a vulnerable head.

Look for nearby high spots to put sentries. Ledges and even just small rocks mean that your guns will be shooting over your teammates and not into them.

Laser beams light enemies on fire and deal significant damage over time. It's often more efficient to beam enemies briefly and let the DOT finish them off, especially when dealing with crowds.

Being prone makes explosions hurt way less.

Mash the dive key when in a sticky situation and out of stamina, it's faster than walking and makes you hard to hit. (It is not faster than letting your stamina regenerate, for travel.)

Stimming lets you get away with some real bullshit when surrounded or overwhelmed. Stimming and repositioning through overwhelming enemy fire or Terminid presence makes all the difference.

Most stratagems are oriented based on your angle from the stratagem when it lands (NOT velocity, like if it bounces back towards you). Airstrikes and bombing runs land perpendicular to you. Sentries and emplacements land facing away from you, and eagle strafing runs start at the beacon and go outwards away from you.
Eagle Strafing Run is one of the best general use stratagems in the game.

On that note, blue strategem beams mean it's safe to stand next to, red beams are ordinance or imminent danger I.E. mines.
Also on that note minefields only arm once the last mine has landed, you can safely run through minefields mid deployment.

And lastly: Don't be a retard. Practice basic game sense. Once you get into it Helldivers really isn't a hard game and your only deaths should really be the odd stunlock, instant kill or teamkill.

Illuminate missions are a bit more playable now-

I was going to reserve my opinion on the Leviathans but having suffered through a pair of the Extract Valuable Assets defense archetype missions, I really think they need to be disabled on certain maps. Illuminate are already brutal enough there with so many of their units ignoring walls and/or eating damage, they really don't need the further advantage where they get to just vaporize you instantly because there's no cover, what with the map being so small and the Leviathan just sitting on top of you and farting constantly.
Like make the eagles or super destroyer or something able to target it, or be able to do literally anything to counteract it. It's an obese gunship and we have a literal destroyer hanging out directly above, shit makes no sense that we're so helpless against it unless the half the squad kits itself out specifically to deal with it.

Of course the update comes out immediately after I play through that.

Allegedly, Arrowhead is moving offices again, this time tripling the number of staff around to about 300.

I think this is a bad idea, unless like half those guys are skilled programers. Gonna be honest boys, I've been playing since launch and I'm pretty disappointed with how it's been going.

Updates used to drop randomly, content would just appear. We haven't gotten a new red strat in over 6 months, the game is buggier with every "patch".
Some fellow autists theorize we're still getting finished pre-launch content and honestly I think they're right, as the arc grenade launchers outline was in the files already.

this problem is unlikely to change, because the devs exclusively read reddit for feedback and those forums literally have rules against criticism.
Oh yea, here's "Cyberstan" and your review bomb cape. Hope it was worth the wait.

Please do the courtesy of spoiling leaks for those that may not want to see them.

New fun and whacky hulk (and devastator) variant:

There was a problem early in the jet brigade's debut where the scripts for these jetpack variants were firing off on the normal enemies and making them jump around the place. I never saw it for myself but I remember hearing about it.
