The amount of people who get hooked after suffering from medical pain and got their dope legitimately are a tiny tiny fraction of addicts. 99% are selfish pieces of shit who buy their pills from Pookie and Ray Ray and never had any sort of medical issues.

A few years ago, I had an elderly relative that needed to be on pain medication for a few months. Once they no longer needed to be on the pills they stopped taking them and never looked back. People who aren't looking for an escape from their own existence aren't going to get hooked on opioids because they had a medical prescription for a few months. The people who become OxyContin zombies are the same sort of people who would have become alcoholics if opioids never existed. They just found a different bottle to crawl into.

Why are people worried about that New York City guy? It's New York City. Who cares? Get the corn.

I think people are reading too much into this. There were no other serious contenders in the primary and the vote was an indictment against Cuomo more than anything in my mind. After what he did as governor, he would never get my vote regardless of how much worse people might say the other guy is. Zohran also managed to look better than the other main competitors by not going out of his way to get down and stick his tongue up Israel's ass without even being asked.

There's no guarantee that he wins the general election, but even if he does, New York City is already a shit hole. It's not as though he's despoiling the garden of Eden. The city is already a mess and at this point throwing some gas on the fire might help it hit rock bottom and realizing that actual changes are needed that much sooner. I think it will be fun watching him trying to implement his stupid policies and everyone figuring out why all of the grocery stores left long ago or that even if you make public transit free even fewer people will want to use it if you let the schizos roam lose.

NY was only +8 Democrat in 2024 when it's typically closer to D +20. I don't think it flips in the next election, but I think it will be even closer in 2028 after three years of his failed policies have sobered everyone up a bit.

The problem is, from who? Eastern Europe is embroiled in border conflicts with Russia; what with the rest of EE getting ready to be the next country attacked by Russia. China's economy is sputtering into chaos, and Latin America is in no place to expand anywhere else outside of the USA's southwest.

Lets be real, he's almost certainly a slice of cheese short of a ham sandwich, but I can think of nobody better to fight a literal gibsmedat communist then the night shift manager of an inner city McDonalds.

Adams is a sloppy leader, but he doesn't rock the boat, and NYC's rich and powerful don't want to rock the boat. That, and the people who voted against Mamdani outnumber the people who voted for him; it's just that their votes were split between different candidates. If they all vote for Adams, they can defeat him.

Trump trying to go full Caesar would just fall flat on its ass because he doesn't have popular support. Most of the heavy-population areas hate him, the farmers hate him for ruining their lives, and even the army hates him, given that in his birthday parade, they openly phoned it in by smiling and marching out of step, even giving left-handed salutes like an open middle finger to him.

The actual Caesar rode a tidal wave of popular support, gaining the love of the army and the plebians against the patrician senators who drove most of them out of work with their army of slave laborers. Trump doesn't have that popularity; large elements of both the Right and the Left hate his guts. Also, Caesar had no problems packing Rome with immigrants from recently-conquered Gaul to support his bid for power, whereas Trump and Stephen Miller have only assured that their support base shrinks by the day.
