Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

It looked like a lot of fun, and the weird dieselpunk 60s aesthetic was so unique. But now of course Nick would never even consider revisiting it BECAUSE of that porn parody.
The co-creators, Lynne Naylor and the late Chris Reccardi, had expressed interest in pursuing the Modifyers concept in other mediums, but that never came to pass.

I've heard about a dozen stories over which silly reason it was that Nick decided to pass on the pilot, from the dubious sounding "the villains were too dark and disturbing" (I mean, they really weren't) to Nick not wanting to greenlight "girl shows" at the time.

Welp, I almost got into a pointless argument against my better judgement. But now I’m curious, can anyone here confirm if kids actually watch all the beanmouth cartoons that are coming out in this era (ie Steven Universe, Primos, Craig of the Creek)?
Back in the 2010s, kids didn’t mind it.
Now into the 2020s, kids don’t care about them anymore

Ironic given that the Mighty B was greenlit around the same time as the Modifyers with Reccardi, Naylor, and other R&S alumni working on the show too.

Zone is an artist, not a website. I'm sure if you go to newgrounds and type in "Zone My Life As A Teenage Robot" or "Zone Modifuckers" you'll find what you're looking for.
I thought Zone was a porn artist with their own website that had all the flash animations on it.

Used to work at a camp during the summer, I definitely remember there being young Steven Universe fans, though not many. The rest of the 2010s era slop outside of Paw Patrol and Disney films had like no investment.

Does anyone remember the pilot for Song in the Sky from 2018?
P/

After 7 years, the movie finally came out.
P/G
I thought UniversalHeat wanted to make this into a series. He probably bit off more than he could chew. I still think it's worth the wait. I liked it.
Terrible art. 0/10 art.

Elio was cut drastically to be less queer-coded according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“I was deeply saddened and aggrieved by the changes that were made,” says former Pixar assistant editor Sarah Ligatich, who provided feedback during Elio production as a member of the company’s internal LGBTQ group PixPRIDE.

Why do these people need their own little same-sex-screwer club EVERYWHERE they go?

“The exodus of talent after that cut was really by indicative of how unhappy a lot of people were that they had changed and destroyed this beautiful work.” Another Pixar source disputes that people stepped down in response to Molina’s departure.

The changes to Elio were clear to one former Pixar artist who worked on the film and asked to remain anonymous: “It was pretty clear through the production of the first version of the film that [studio leaders] were constantly sanding down these moments in the film that alluded to Elio’s sexuality of being queer.”

A mass exodus of modern Pixar artists sounds like a good thing to me. Were they all part of the aforementioned club?

Also, he is far, far from the first to have his character screwed with and his movie changed (and not the first to have the movie bomb afterwards either). I normally have sympathy because I'm sure that sucks, but this sounds insufferable and I am sick of Pixar giving people 200+ million dollar therapy sessions and expecting people to pay to see them.

Looked that up, as expected it was the “I don’t want to be a magical girl” artist.
Honestly, the ironic/subversive magical girl shows have gotten old. It turned from stale to rotten when Magical Girl Friendship Squad came out. Is anyone else just getting really sick of everything trying to be ironic or subversive, making you wonder if the writers were embarrassed by what they were creating? (:_(

It's not even good at subversion. You know a magical girl that didn't want to be a magical girl? Sailor Moon. Most girls prefer their everyday life over magical girl stuff. It's already been played for comedy in some mangas where they get turned by accident. It would be subversive if it was the exact opposite, a girl comically obcessed with magical girlness that forces everyone to play along.

The parody also isn't funny cause it takes out everything interesting about the genre. Her transformation is instant cause she hates it which is lazy. She has perfect grades because she's a mary sue not like other girls so that's not a conflict. She instantly wins the fight by hitting the villain with a pipe instead of using magic (funny but again, lazy). She has no male love interest cause the female friend is the one meaning this is about lesbians and not about girl friendship.

This is just another millenial writer making anime references without realizing they hate it.

I don't think "When you take away the queerness, the movie has nothing and elio is a boring character" is the praise this person thinks it is.

If literally zero people on screentesting liked then the movie had bigger problems than the mc being queer. The video posted here of some reviewer really highlights how the first reveal trailer has godawful direction and shit designs, that didn't change in the final product. Seriously go watch that the man is brutal ("This isn't a feature animation, this is a canadian cartoon.")

I already know the same people who didn't give a fuck about this movie will read this and start saying Elio was a hidden gem and it was trump's fault it flopped.

>Not a single person in the test audience liked the queer coded exploration of identity in the original.

They spent 200 million dollars on this garbage.

Firing John Lasseter so wokes on Twitter wouldn’t yell at them has likely cost Disney hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars

No shit. If you take out some faggotry and suddenly the movie is "about nothing" then it was about nothing but faggotry in the first place.

So you know more about Zone than I do, why did you pretend you didn't? 🤔
"Let's make a movie where a gay little boy is desperately looking to get abducted, there's no way this can fail!"
Jesus fucking Christ. If that had been in the advertising people would've burned down Pixar studios. No wonder they didn't market Elio at all, it was either pedo shit or nothing.

I've got a little buddy who's 10 (I'm friends with his mom) and he LOVES Steven Universe. I spent most of Easter Sunday this year entertaining him, and he had us design "Billite," a Bill Cipher gemsona who appeared in Beach City and kidnapped the Crystal Gems, and it was up to Dipper, Mabel, and Steven to save the day. Oh, and he's obsessed with Gravity Falls and Bill Cipher too, moreso than SU but SU has to be a close second. I think he mostly likes the concept of gems, rather than the show's actual plot.

Sad really, but not surprising it happened.

The (porn's) creator, Zone, has this weird ability to make porn parodies (Modifyers, My Life As A Teenage Robot, Ankha from Animal Crossing) that become so popular that even normal people online catch wind of them. It's like he sold his soul for popularity or something.
You think he hasn't? I'm obviously being facetious, yet pornography attracts the wrong type of person and is used for nefarious things.

What is this shit about making "cartoons for paedophiles"? As we can see on the Cartoon Industry thread, plenty of artists talking about "children's butts" and all of them being sodomites.

One of the classic signs of a pedophile is that often they'll take jobs that give them access to children, or earn them trust. Traditionally those were roles like preachers and pastors, scout leaders, teachers, pediatricians, party clowns, etc. Maybe a lot of them are just going into animation since there's less of a disconnect between creators and viewers now?
