Have in mind that those 200 countries aren't officially supported by sony and they most probably bring about nothing in revenue, but europe is the second biggest market for any tech corporation after the US, they'd be extremely retarded to drop literal billions worth of revenue just because they don't want to release stripped down server binaries to their users.
But I guess they moved into this market behavior solely because they wanted to strip down as much consumer rights as possible, so it's not out of the question them literally going bonkers if this ever passes.

Sloptuber Luke Stephens brings up an excellent point that over the next few months, publishers may try to kill off their dead live service games in an effort to get ahead of any EU conditions that would require them to make an offline mode for any games that currently have an online only requirement.

Anthem is going offline in January. And EA has said there is currently no plans for an offline mode. So effectively your purchase is being taken away. Despite the game being shit this is what the movement is fighting against.

There are many failed live service games that require an online connection. I think Luke brought up Redfall. Evolve is another one but it came out years ago. Publishers aren't going to be willing to put teams on older games that have failed to give them viable offline options. So they figure it would be better to kill them off entirely before the EU gets the ball rolling.

Luke Stephens is one of those youtubers who uses too many words to say very little, talking in circles to pad runtime. I instantly felt similar rejection to him as I did with Fagtree first time I saw him. They're the kind of people who likes the sound of their own voice very much. Milquetoast motherfucker on top of everything else.

As for Anthem, I don't think it's related in any way. Most people are surprised to learn its servers were online all this time in the first place, myself included. Seems more like a coincidence than anything else, by all means it's long overdue according to how they usually handle things. This is pure speculation at this point.
EA pulled the plug on Darkspore, an always online ARPG similar to Diablo 3 in how it relied on servers to work at all after 5 years, having decided its sales didn't meet their expectations. I actually liked it for what it was, being a rare sci-fi ARPG that retained some aspects of its predecessor that allowed to express your creativity, and it's one of my personal reasons for supporting this movement.

I fucking hated always-online requirement for essentially singleplayer games ever since, as it's a devious form of DRM that inherently limits game's lifespan, because it relies on servers that will eventually be unplugged for one reason or another - it's merely a matter of time.
