I'm still in the process of making a new OP, but I need to bring something from the past that is extremely funny in today's context. The old Second Life comments under the articles talking about his controversies, as Maldavius Figtree, is an absolute goldmine

THEY ALWAYS KNEW HE WAS A LOLCOW :story: :story: :story:

Talk about foreshadowing here :story:. Even back then, everyone knew

Jason has literally NOT CHANGED at all, he's still the same Maldavius Figtree from the Second Life in 2006

That is actually insane. How long this OP gonna be you think? Seeing that there is 20 years of content probably a while.

Is there a definitive first game to become inaccessible to people who purchased it? It'd be interesting to know which game was patient zero.
Ross Scott believes it was Battle Forge that was patient zero of having a game that you pay box price for taken away from you. If not that, then The Crew for sure.

I mean in the 2000s there were so many fucking tiny MMOs and virtual worlds plus pre-steam games where the distribution method was putting a credit card into some amateur website that it's probably some game nobody's ever heard of. But first AAA game or first game that people actually cared about is probably has a clearer answer

If you don't count unofficial offline patch based on leaked debug build as accessible, then maybe Motor City Online (EA 2001-2003). You had to pay full box price + $10 monthly charge

If it weren't for the date, I would think this was 2 weeks ago. This faggot hasn't changed a bit

it's actually perfect. he has the one quintessential trait that makes a lolcow what they are; he doesn't learn. he's been experiencing the exact same 'bullying' kiwifarms is giving him since second life 18 years ago. i hope maldy never learns, and i hope he continues to behave this way forever. it'll give our grandkids a lolcow we can all bond together over.

While not being patient zero, a lot of movie tie in games or games that pay for DRM have become inaccessible after the license expired. I believe I brought this example before on this thread, but there was a controversy regarding Tron Evolution, where in the game became inaccessible after Disney stopped paying for the DRM license. If you installed the game after it expired you could only access the main manu and nothing else.

Funnily enough, pre-transition lolcow Jim Sterling made a video about it five years ago. Came across it when checking if I remembered the case correctly.

Dude is really good at hacking old vidya and getting it to work on modern PCs, he's doing the Lord's work.

His video on hacking Diablo II to run on Vulkan is fantastic, give it a watch if you haven't.

Funnily enough, this is the sort of thing you'd think this fuckhead Mald would support and even contribute, but he doesn't.

Really makes you think

Patrick Tomlinson?

I can believe the swatting claims although they were probably just wellness checks. Lets face it anyone who has their identity out there and gets into an internet slapfight will have similar stuff happen to them at some scale at this point in time.

From what I know its possible to get police reports for the call out though (maybe it depends on the state) so this is easily proven/disproven.
Patrick has now proven history of spousal abuse, Jason has nothing controversial or reported incidents, swatting gets on local news like DSP for example.

Jason is full of shit

Mald is now doing what every falling youtuber does... keep posting videos and keep streaming hoping they can still continue their career. Crazy.
Wait, he actually uses that face as a reaction image? Why?
Out of curiosity, what do you think should happen to games where both the devs and the players think it's dogshit? Like Concord. Sony refunded all the people who bought that game and killed it- is that enough to relieve them of their burden or should they also be forced to let people host concord for the 5 people who actually liked it?
If it was a matter of "this product broke through no fault of our own" a refund would be fine, but they are the ones intentionally breaking it. This is not a case of "my hammer broke" but more like "Home Depot broke into my house and forcefully repurchased my hammer". Beyond basic restitution for lost property, there also would need to be punitive damages, preferably given to the ones harmed. If SKG makes it into law, it's very likely that publishers issuing refunds would not be a way to keep their legal obligations.

I'm still of the mind that this is primarily about preserving videogames so refunding people misses the point for me IMO. The core goal of keeping games playable doesn't care about their quality.

Though I am not jewish enough to understand what kind of legal schlamassel it would entail to make it so that people who wish for a refund can get one while people who wish to keep the game get access to self-hosting.

You are on a forum where people archive every embarassing moment of nobodies that everyone hates and won't miss. It's not about preserving every bad game, it's about preserving every game.

What he did is the classic "I'm a dick and there's nothing you can do about it" shit. Like the "hope I don't get aids" chick, the puppy squish people, etc. He's apparently a 4chan vet and doesn't understand FAFO on the Internet?
hes ALSO endlessly propped up by exaggerated resume and lies. I think if you lie so much it makes you lose touch with reality a little.

I think it would be a good solution if the law forced them to declare the official support period, and if they end-of-life the product before that time, they must issue refunds, otherwise they need only to ensure that the game remains reasonably playable without official support. There should also be a 30 day no questions asked refund policy.
