Am I the only one who finds it ironic that people portray SKG as a massive threat to the corporation, but at the same time, people shouldn't push IP reform because it's a massive threat to corporations? I think trying to compromise on this is a little backwards, especially since the protection of IP is probably one of the biggest defenses these opponents to the movement will have, and eventually any deliberation about the policy will bring this up. What then? Are we expected to remain silent because it's too controversial, under the belief that this might hurt the momentum of the movement?

Don't get me wrong, I think trying to antagonize SKG is incredibly foolish. But I feel like antagonizing people trying to bring up IP laws in reference to consumer rights, are causing more division amongst pro-consumer movement in the long run. I'm not convinced at all that this hurts optics, nor do I think telling people to shut up about it helps SKG either.

Having an IP is fine but if you sell a good to someone or accept money for a service, then it must be clear what exactly is happening. I dunno if you'd count this one on a technicality, but Freespace 2 on Steam comes to mind. It's not as much the game is "inaccessible", but it relies on fanmade tools and programs to be made functional. If you go to the store page and look at the reviews, this is one of the first things you see:

I would also extend this to pretty much every game that was released on Gaming For Windows Live. Not only are the servers no longer available, but the programs themselves don't play nice with modern operating systems. Something like MAG on the PS3 comes to mind as well.

There's actually a fuckton of these, almost every 80s and early 90s game is just released with a default config Dosbox and the game files (including Doom and Quake, before they got replaced with the new official sourceports). Kinda wish Augmented Steam or the SteamDB addons made note of these issues somehow, since I doubt Valve would implement something like this mandatorily. At least these games remain accessible and do work, you just need to put in some elbow grease.

I love the GOG Preservation Program, hopefully the bad releases like DMC4SE (has the same launch bug on Steam, need to use regedit to fix it I think) are not going to be a constant and just a one time hiccup. They (Capcom+GOG in tandem, I assume) were really quick to fix up Breath of Fire 4's ugly filtering, bit bummed they seemingly aren't doing anything about DMC4.

i am trying to clean shit off of my floor. my roomate has devised a plan to clean it up and is actively getting help to clean it. you point out that there is water damage to the load bearing walls.. you arent wrong that it needs to be fixed, but it would be a lot easier and faster to clean the shit up first. additionally someone else is already working on the shit whereas fixing the load bearing wall has no one working on it and is a lot harder and more complicated problem and wed just be getitng in each others way trying to do both at the same time
