I think it's most likely that Musk is having withdrawal from no longer being able to wield political power. That's something he enjoyed greatly, but it's something you can't buy and his attempts to do so have all failed. It must rankle him to be unable to satisfy his wants. Probably doesn't happen often.

My personal take on new party/changed his tune.

Authoritarian populism isn't tied to Trump, and in a country with multiple political parties, he could start a viable alternative to MAGA by continuing their methods and program, but attacking Trump personally and blaming all issues on Trump's extreme corruption and obvious mental disability.
Basically try to run on "MAGA but without the personality cult of Trump and the incompetent sycophants he put into positions the American people need to be staffed by professionals".
