Now that the gone missing arc is done and Phil isn't gonna address it directly, I guess I'll throw my two cents into the ring.
Phil did go to CT to see his parents. They aren't doing well but they're still alive, he's not down enough for someone who'd've lost a parent. The renovated, incessant brouhaha about suing people tells me he got a monetary boost from his parents. Maybe a pre-heritance of sorts.

During the podcast that just ended he mentioned doing the licensing thing because detractors are stealing content anyway. Which is stupid to say out loud because if people don't pay his fee (and they won't) they will continue what they are doing for free. There's no threat to continue "stealing kahntent" if he won't sue and doesn't copyright strike.
I don't get why he doesn't strike people. Snort Hogan went online tough guy saying he needs to remove the strikes that supposedly superhound made. It makes me think Snort already has an arrangement with Phil. I remember Phil even made the "emergency video" to show it wasn't him (but revealed strikes against others).

Generally speaking, getting top 8 at Evo is kind of a big deal in the realm of fighting games. As a couple of other people already mentioned, it was a janky port of the game, which makes it considerably less impressive. Also, quite a few high level players "boycotted" playing the game that year at Evo, which takes it down a few more notches.
That said, the players that were "boycotting" were kind of little bitches for not just entering and playing it out. I recall they had a little tournament among themselves on the proper version of the game after the official tourney to determine who the "real" Evo winner was, which Phil actually took part in, but he didn't do well.
TBH that whole thing was fucking cringe, and if I was in Phil's position, I probably would have told those faggots to fuck off and have fun with their pretend tournament.

Well, it depends on exactly why the boycott occured. If players flew out from Japan thinking they're playing a standard version of a game only to find out they're playing a bad port then it makes sense to boycott. However, if they knew what they were getting into and just threw a fit then yeah, they were being faggots and I also would've just ignored their unofficial tournament like you said.

Per the Discord screens we've seen; he's been in Wings, Boogies, and Becky Boops DMs. They're all Keem adjacent, and being the sheisty business garden gnome he is, it wouldn't surprise me if Keem did it. Keem admitted that Phil has a large contingent of haters, and haters are guaranteed watchers, so may as well monetize them; this was on the 5 hour Sidescroller Hell Stream. Phil pretended to take the high ground because he's a moral person or something; but since then, he's been DMing the LolCowLive talent.

JoshPoem was ahead of the curve on this one, he's been claiming this for months but it really feels more and more like Keem is the one coaching him, or he delegated it to one of his slave-lolcows. Didn't Wings have some similar arrangment with his alogs where they had to pay him money or he'd copystrike them?

I don't know how many relevant, popular fighting games there were at EVO in 2005 so I made the assumption it was a main event at the time. Checking now, Wikipedia seems to list it as if it was a main event along with the rest of the games like Street Fighter 3 and MvC2.

Gotta admit this crashout is pretty rich. I thought the SS fallout would be the peak of his mental episode but I guess not. Phil’s gloating about his new gaming PC and setup but honestly it killed the tiny bit of atmosphere he had on his streams. Back when he had the crappy cam and was stuck on console, it felt more raw and unfiltered. Now, it’s just sterile and even more annoying.

There are many parallels to how his stream changed to the way Games Done Quick has gone over the years.

If you've seen the current GDQs, you can see how much it feels like watching a Phil stream. Down to incentives, goals, and asking for money constantly as one example. LETS GET TO THE GOAL!

Keepin it simple, just dudes on a couch chillin playin games to what we got what feels like commercialized corporate slop just to draw in people to syphon money. Videogames are the last priority when it comes to these things now.
