Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

What is the point of making women ugly in video games? I’m not disagreeing that it doesn’t exist, but why?

Someone gave what looks like the correct answer in an earlier post. In white Western countries AAA dev teams have increasing numbers of women. They are scared if they make women characters in games hot that will mean men will give real women less attention, or that men will fancy the game characters or something. They can't stand the thought of that so go out of their way to make the characters brown skinned, flat tits, flat ass, masculine face etc etc.

The bigger issue is that the university system that produces these people is caught in a feedback loop that leads to all the aesthetic obsessions that were popular among tumblrites during the late 00s/early 10s like muttification, brownification, vitiligo, stretch marks or visible tranny surgery scars being mainstream across a large amount of creatives.

You don't pay out of the ass for laser scan/mocap rigs and then accidentially end up morphing the face of the actress you hired to look like she has been hitting the bottle for the past half decade.

Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose as making women intentionally ugly in video games would carry over into their perception of how women are viewed in society?

Pfff, looking at implications and consequences of ideas more than one step ahead
Do you think leftists are even capable of that

Management & design of major game studios are completely converged on leftist ideology. Leftist ideology says that beauty is a social construct, our current ideas of beauty are driven by the "male gaze," and therefore "privileging conventionally attractive women" is simply reinforcing the patriarchy and oppressing women. The ideology further says that by "centering images of unconventionally attractive rhythm," they can rewrite our social conditioning and make us start finding fat, ugly chicks attractive. It's not working, of course.

I don't want to derail, but that doesn't make sense. They want to push back against a perceived beauty standard by deconstructing the natural concept of beauty? To me, that sounds like objectification: forcing women to conform to THEIR standard of attractiveness.

The people who make them are spiritually ugly and it physically manifests itself in their female characters, they see them as perfect representation of what a women should look like.

They don't believe there's any such thing as a "natural concept of beauty," only social constructs designed to exclude the oppressed.

You're looking too much into this. You all act like we're discussing Nietzsche's works here. I think you all got used to seeing professional models and actresses caked in makeup and when a woman (fictional or not) doesn't look like that, you take it like a personal insult. Try to consider for a second that YOU might be the one who has a problem, not the devs.

Oh, you said the secret word! Personally, that’s false. My beauty standards of actresses would be from the older demographic. Or, from the 20th century. I’m not expecting every woman to look immaculately beautiful, I expect them to look human.

And this is why I don’t like talking about this out loud. I’m immediately met with a gaslighting rebuttal that I’M the problem for noticing something unnatural.

Allegedly, a female pin-up artist from the past actually reduced a model's breast size.

So much for "unrealistic" standards. :story:
